  • "Hillside was a fantastic cottage in a fabulous location."

Clean and comfortable throughout. Grange over Sands is a perfect base and the village itself was lovely with plenty of amenities and all where closer than we thought. I would definitely return to Grange over sands and Hillside cottage.

Furnished to a high standard and clean. The only downfall we felt mattress needs changing (too soft).would love to come back.

  • "We had a lovely time in a beautiful house - and location."

The property is in very good condition and had everything that we required. The only thing that I might highlight is the steepness of the hill to access the property. While it was no bother to us, anyone with a respiratory or a heart condition woulf need to be aware. Nevertheless, we had a lovely holiday in spectacular surroundings. Thank you very much!!

Thank for the positive feedback, it is very much appreciated. The property is called Hillside and most of Grange is built into the hillside around the bay, it does give our property amazing views of the morecambe bay. Many thanks again. Property Owner

The tower rail wasn’t clean, the bathroom sink was blocked and the placemats dirty (with crumbs). Overall the cleanliness of the place was disappointing.

  • "We spent a most enjoyable bank holiday weekend at Hillside and we were very happy with the cottage which is exceptionally well-equipped, clean and comfortable."

Everything has been thought of which ensures a real home-from-home experience. The kitchen is fully kitted out so cooking is an option if preferred to dining out in the town, where there are plenty of restaurant, pub and takeaway options. The accommodation is spacious, and the rear decked garden is a lovely , sunny, quiet spot to sit and relax. The views from the front of the property are stunning and the short walk down into the town means the cottage is ideally situated, should one wish to get around on foot (albeit the steep walk back isn’t for the faint-hearted!). Grange-over-Sands and the surrounding towns, villages and countryside, are a beautiful part of the country to explore. We can not fault Hillside as a self-catering destination and we would recommend it without hesitation.

  • "This Accommodation was very good and with some fabulous Sunrises from Kitchen window ."

We never used our Car at all during our stay , only local buses and train to visit Barrow , Ulverston and Hawkstead plus walked the local Trails . Everyone seemed to be local distancing in the Area due to Coronavirus Pandemic Restrictions and we will in The Future definitely consider returning to the Area .

Just a couple of small issues. The toilet seat was too small and didn’t fit properly and the water in the bathroom was inconsistent with hot water.

Nothing we could want for really. It is situated up a steep hill and has steps to access so may not be suitable for those with mobility problems. Parking outside & good decking to rear garden. Lots to do in surrounding area & stunning views of Morecambe Bay from the front windows. We would certainly return for another holiday here.

  • "I’d read the comments from others and they are all fair comments."

The owner is lovely and very knowledgeable about the area. There is a hill but then you don’t look down on amazing views without being up a hill. There is one pub in the village called The Commodore we had lunch here one day. It was ok but drinks are very pricey. We drove to another one nearby called The Pheasant Inn very popular with families again it was ok. The nicest food was a pub in Lindale about 10 min drive called The Royal Oak lovely menu nice atmosphere. You can get all these pubs websites up and look at their menus. Grange over sands has everything you need a Spar a Tesco Express & a Co-Op. There is a lovely butchers opposite the spar and a nice fish & chip shop opposite the co-op and on the same side as the chippy just a bit further along is the bakery. We walked from Hillside to the promenade a few times and it’s a good walk. The prom has some nice cafes if you wish to stop. The views are great. Overall a good location ideally placed for you to explore the surrounding areas.

Grange over sands offers a great range of shops ranging from bakeries to coffee shops. You must also try out the fish and chip shop there and enjoy the walk along the promise which offers amazing views

  • "This property is rated 5 star, but lacks many items which you would expect to find in a highly rated cottage."

There is no cleaning products, a lack of cloths, only 1 loo roll was provided, no handsoap, no shaving point, no additional TV (usually in 1 of the bedrooms) no clocks in bedrooms. We have stayed in many cottages over the years, some 3 and 4 star, and this is the only one where things of this nature are not supplied, we have even had small toiletries and tissues as additional luxuries, but nothing like that is provided here. Also the bedroom drawers should have had a dust, you don't really want other people's hair or fluff or nail files left for you to find ! It is comfortable and warm with good views over Grange over Sands, which is a lovely place to stay (cottage is at the top of a very steep road) but these little extras, in our opinion, would have truly rated this as 5 star.

  • "This property is modern, well equipped and suitably maintained."

It is located in a quiet cul-de-sac. There are plenty or nice restaurants and cafes in the town and also in nearby Cartmel which is on the local bus route (530/532) which does a circular route around the area. We travelled to Grange-over-Sands by train and found the latter part of the route from the station to Hillside quite steep. It wasn't a great distance (15 min. on foot) but with having luggage it was difficult and so would strongly recommend a taxi for anyone without transport. We really enjoyed our week at this property and would like to stay again soon.

About the location

Cartmel 2 miles; Lake Windermere 8 miles; Kendal 10 miles.

The charming Edwardian resort of Grange-over-Sands is set between the Lake District fells and Morecambe Bay and offers one of the mildest climates in the north of England. Formerly a small fishing village, the introduction of the Furness Railway transformed Grange-over-Sands into a fashionable Edwardian resort. Today, the town has much to offer the visitor including a traffic-free promenade, delightful ornamental gardens, golf courses, brass band concerts and excellent bird watching. Just a short drive away are Lake Windermere (8 miles), the villages of Bowness-on-Windermere and Hawkshead, which still retain the charm and character that has endeared them to so many, and the home of sticky toffee pudding, Cartmel, with its famous racecourse and the L’Enclume restaurant, which has been voted the 4th best restaurant in the UK. Other attractions in the area include Levens Hall, with its Elizabethan Hall and world famous topiary gardens, Holker Hall, Furness Abbey, Sizergh Castle, a National Trust medieval house and gardens, and Conishead Priory, a Gothic revival country house. There is also the 25 mile Cistercian Way which starts at Grange over Sands. Set amidst the southern lakes, the attractive town of Grange-over-Sands makes a superb base from which to enjoy the whole of this magical area.
