  • "We loved staying here, really suitable for our family."

Had everything we needed and lovely and warm. The only small issues we had was we put the bin out for collection on Tuesday night as instructed and it was never collected, and the hoover smells of wet dog.

  • "Lovely property in a fabulous location."

Everything you needed. Excellent seating on the patio area with superb views. Two bathrooms was good, plently of storage, carport area was handy given the inclement weather. Very quiet but friendly neighbourhood. Areas for improvement are: standard of cleaning, never seen as many cobwebs on furniture, some small sharp knives would have been helpful. In general need of an update.

  • "A comfortable "home" to return to each day from outings in various lake district venues."

We had good weather and took advantage of sitting out in the well layed out garden. Great views to look out onto, and convenient to travel into GoS and venues further afield. Only fault, if you can call it that, was that the accommodation was not throughly cleaned with cobwebs and some food left under the dining table from previous occupiers and no spare toilet rolls.

  • "The property was spacious, spotlessly clean and very well equipped."

The photographs appeal, but the reality is even better. The lounge area has an excellent view over Morcambe Bay. We had fantastic weather for exploring, but the bungalow has an extensive range of books and games too. A really good find. There is a hill to climb (or drive) up, but it is, well worth it for the views. Lovely, quiet area and perfect for a relaxing break.

Bungalow and general decor/furniture made it really easy for us with a toddler, as did the wax tablecloth! Garden was brilliant, great to be able to close the gate and know our daughter couldn't get onto the road easily. Appreciate all the cleaning products that were left for using too. Some hooks for coats by the door for all the rainy lakes weather would have been useful, as well as a drying rack for washing but generally the house had everything we needed. Really enjoyed our stay, the views from the house were amazing!

It was a real pleasure to stay there… so very convenient in every way. It’s a fabulous bungalow; very light and attractive. Our only (very small) criticism was that the 9.00am leave time was a bit of a strain: 10.00am would have been much appreciated! But thank you for a fabulous six days.

Situated in a quiet area with lovely views of the beach and Morecambe Bay. The house was perfect as a base to explore the Lake Windermere area and we had lovely trips to various places. Our kids loved Go Ape and we had a cruise on the Lake to Bowness in beautiful weather. We had everything we needed in the house, beds were comfortable and the garden was lovely to sit out in (bushes overhanging the path might need a bit of pruning).

  • "There was no welcome pack on arrival which was a surprise particularly as we arrived in the midst of the festive season There written notes on scraps of paper dotted around stuck to the walls with black electrical tape which was reminiscent of our holiday cottage stays back in the 1980's."

This made us feel like we had gone back to school and certainly detracted from the look and feel of the place. However apart from that the cottage was very nice, clean, warm, well equipped and cosy. The views of the bay were fabulous. It's situated on a nice residential street and it was very quiet. The path around the property and patio were covered in green moss and were incredibly slippery underfoot - no warnings anywhere about that. We lost connection to the WIFI from Sunday morning onwards which was a minor inconvenience on this occasion. The garden is lovely and was visited by many small birds constantly throughout the day. We would definitely visit again.

  • "Clean and comfortable with amazing views A day after we arrived, we noticed a wasps nest forming in one of the vents outside the house."

We reported this to Sykes who contacted Orian who deal with the maintenance on the bungalow. Because of the wasps, we couldn't open all the windows so they supplied us with fans until pest control could come out. This was all out of hours at weekend and they replied to our messages almost immediately. The service from Orian and the pest control company was first class. We had an enjoyable holiday despite the wasps nest but it would have been a very different outcome if the nest had been left any longer. Knowing that it would be dealt with was very reassuring. The nests could not have been predicted but everything was done to resolve the problem in a friendly and efficient manner. We are looking forward to returning to this property again.

When we arrived one of the curtain rails in the lounge was down and the curtain on the floor behind the sofa. One of the toilets was out of use which was a real problem as we were staying with two elderly parents who have more frequent toilet visits. I had to ring the office who sent someone the following day but it could not be fixed we had to wait for Dynarod who didn’t arrive until the afternoon before our holiday finished. The accommodation has beautiful views of the bay but the windows were really dirty or the units had blown which impacted from inside the house. I always stay with Sykes this property was definitely not up to their usual standard.

Both of us favour dark clothing and both ended up covered in white dog/cat hairs which had not been picked up by the cleaners or the (seemingly ineffective) vacuum which my daughter in law had used throughout. Fortunately neither of us suffer from allergies. The property was well situated and in a very quiet location. The accommodation was spacious and the beds comfortable. The settees in the lounge however seem to be past their use by date and rising from them was not easy! The kitchen was spacious and equipped with quality pots/pans/crockery. Though the fridge freezer was incredibly loud. The towels in the bathrooms were absorbent and of a good quality, and there was instant hot water at all times. The garden was pleasant to sit in when the sun shone with a panoramic view of the bay. We left the property in the state and at the time specified by Sykes. The tone of the leaving instructions was somewhat threatening and draconian, perhaps someone could read and redraft these perfectly reasonable requests in a friendlier fashion?

The house was filthy when we arrived at 5.30pm despite there being a note saying the cleaners had been. Dirty laundry, no beds made. With no reasonable help from sykes we left the property checked into a local hotel for the rest of the week, we did not return despite the cleaners being sent. We had to pay 1400 for 2 rooms on top of the 997 we paid for this house. I also paid 50 insurance so hope to get some compensation from sykes

The cottage was very clean and smelt clean when we arrived. Everyone commented on how comfortable the beds were and how cosy the duvets were. The layout of rooms and bathrooms was ideal. A lovely property, certainly a good way to get fit climbing up the very steep hill to get to it! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. Just a minor point, it might be useful to have somewhere to put dirty boots under the car port (save getting the kitchen floor dirty). Please can renters be aware of people's problems and just use none perfume products. At one point thought May have to go home. Such a shame as the place was nice. Did dissipate only after 24 hours. • "We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday."

Grange-Over-Sands is an ideal location from which to explore the Lakes and a very pretty town in its own right with lovely ornamental gardens, great shops and spectacular views over the bay and good to stroll around. There is a very handy recreation ground 5 minutes walk away which is a great place to exercise the dog. The cottage was larger than expected, immaculate and extremely well equipped. We wanted for nothing, and it was presented beautifully, ideal for my dog with a well enclosed garden and plenty of space for her to run around. The house did not smell 'doggy' at all when we arrived. There was even a dog bed and bowl provided. I really cannot think of anything which was not as I would have wished. My only reason for not giving a top rating for the accuracy of the description is because it was described as a 10 minute walk to the shops. I think this is a little optimistic. I am a good walker and the main part of the town which you would need for bread and milk etc is at least a 15 minute walk or possibly 20 if you are not a brisk walker. Also the walk back is quite a steep climb - good if you want to get fit on your holiday but realistically a trip in the car if you are stocking up with provisions. We found several excellent pubs to eat, all in Flookburgh. Overall my rating is excellent, many thanks for all the effort in providing such a good service.

We noticed this before we booked and it had been mentioned in a previous review. My mother is 88 years old and she managed to walk into Grange and back but the hill was very difficult for her to climb. This was not at all a problem for our stay but I think the location should be highlighted on your site. Car port and driveway excellent, all in all an excellent spacious property with everything we needed. No Wi-Fi was a bonus.

The patio furniture & BBQ were great for the sunny days with wonderful views. Grange over sands has wonderful amenities, butchers, bakers, coop and various takeaways. Only one criticism is that there not internet which would have been an added bonus. We will definitely be back to this stunning area, as so much more to explore.

About the location

GRANGE-OVER-SANDS

Cartmel 2 miles; Lake Windermere 8 miles; Kendal 10 miles.

The charming Edwardian resort of Grange-over-Sands is set between the Lake District fells and Morecambe Bay and offers one of the mildest climates in the north of England. Formerly a small fishing village, the introduction of the Furness Railway transformed Grange-over-Sands into a fashionable Edwardian resort. Today, the town has much to offer the visitor including a traffic-free promenade, delightful ornamental gardens, golf courses, brass band concerts and excellent bird watching. Just a short drive away are Lake Windermere (8 miles), the villages of Bowness-on-Windermere and Hawkshead, which still retain the charm and character that has endeared them to so many, and the home of sticky toffee pudding, Cartmel, with its famous racecourse and the L’Enclume restaurant, which has been voted the 4th best restaurant in the UK. Other attractions in the area include Levens Hall, with its Elizabethan Hall and world famous topiary gardens, Holker Hall, Furness Abbey, Sizergh Castle, a National Trust medieval house and gardens, and Conishead Priory, a Gothic revival country house. There is also the 25 mile Cistercian Way which starts at Grange over Sands. Set amidst the southern lakes, the attractive town of Grange-over-Sands makes a superb base from which to enjoy the whole of this magical area.
