  • "Some of the windows would not open."

Not great on warm evenings. Velux blind broken in one of the bedrooms. Was told one was on order but would take three weeks. As it was light at 4.30am, difficult for the children to sleep, as incredibly light from the attic window. Welcome box was a lovely addition.

  • "The most stunning property."

X2 families, 4 kids ages 10-6 Quite location overlooking Morecambe Bay. Large sturdy Victorian house. High end bedding, pillows, blinds, showers/bath. Thoughtful interiors TVs in every room. Lots of DVDs, games, books Yummy local welcome box on arrival. Thank you, so so kind! Clean, fresh, chilled vibe property. Parking x1 car, sometimes tricky to get out of space with residents cars parked along bushes. Top floor Single pink back bedroom Front twin with beautiful views Front twin Large beautiful bath + shower room Middle floor Large front bedroom - watch the sunrise (Single beds together) very comfortable Large garden bedroom (Single beds together) perhaps new mattresses needed? After a week felt uncomfortable + single bed 3 bathrooms, 2 shower rooms + 1 loo Ground floor Large living / dining room - views! Utility room - perhaps washing machine upgrade needed Small back kitchen - larger fridge needed for 2 families staying in property (careful don’t order a large online shop!) New (more) oven trays needed Large measure jug needed Minor details - (we did a Sunday roast) Perhaps hoover upgrades, with 4 young kids we hoovered most days, hoovers very dusty, old, full and needed emptying - again minor detail Amazing local pub with parking (try the local Gin!) Great shops, the pie shop is lush! Vanilla beauty for nails/massage The Grange Hotel for afternoon tea, swimming/sauna (kids loved the pool) Netherwood hotel for garden drinks in the sun, thermal spa Lots of great walks on doorstep Absolutely stunning area! Could not fault. Blackpool 1hr away, kids loved! Tempted to rebook for 2023! Thank you for having us, we have fallen in love with the area. Your house is just an amazing tranquil retreat. Wishing you a happy 2022!

  • "We had a lovely week at this super property very clean and comfortable, just as good as when we came 2 years ago."

Tim and Julie the owners were very helpful, telephoning us to inform us of a severe storm the previous weekend. Also provided a lovely welcome pack. Would recomend this property. Some of information provided by Sykes needs updating as the owners provided more than stated.

  • "Had a great week staying at The Lookout."

We had everything we needed for a group of 10 staying, the house was warm, the beds were comfortable and living & dining rooms had ample space for 10 of us. The only slight issue was the fridge, being an under counter fridge we had limited storage. Shame the owners didn’t put in an outside fridge or even an additional drinks fridge in the dining room. Parking was fine for one car outside the house and we parked the other cars down from the pub and bought a weekly ticket. The garden area wasn’t really useable as it only had 4 chairs and the artificial grass was water logged but we just went to the pub and sat in their beer garden. It was a perfect base for us to get out and about and would definitely recommend The Lookout.

  • "I’ll start with the minor negatives first, the fridge door shelves need repairing and the outside heater and lighting wouldn’t work."

The outside is just a small courtyard so wouldn’t get the sun. Parking is very difficult due to lack of space. The property is very big and has a lovely view over the bay, great for ‘twitchers’ like me. Plenty of room for large parties, huge bedrooms and beds! High standard of fixtures and fittings, nicely decorated. Location is great as the pub and shops are 2 mins walk away. And travel to the Lakes easy. Would recommend.

The cottage was excellent, big enough for our rabble, and lovely and cosy. Great location for exploring the area. Really liked Grange over sands to wander around too. Highly recommend the lookout for a big group.

  • "Booked at short notice as we had to alter plans due to Covid restrictions."

Great house, which is deceptively large, as only 2 of us staying we didn’t even need to access the third floor. All was as described. Used as base for travelling into The Lakes and Yorkshire Dales. Enjoyed morning and evening walks with dog along the Promenade. House was very warm, bed comfy. WiFi was adequate. Sunrise and sunset views across the estuary were stunning. We were very lucky with the September weather. Local curry house only a 2 minute walk away and food was freshly prepared and tasty. Also ate at The Pheasant, Allithwaite which is a 5 minute drive away, which was very good. All in all, An excellent, well located house. Would highly recommend

  • "An ideal base for exploring the lakes with lovely views across the bay made better with the beautiful sunrise each morning."

Garden a little limited being artificial grass and shaded due to surrounding properties But was as described Kitchen to dining room down some stairs not ideal if you are catering for a full house but as there were only two of us and we mainly dined out was not an issue Plenty of exercise with the number of stairs if there were elderly or very young children

There were used tissues down the side of the bed, and a half drank bottle of pop. Plus a used razor in the bathroom.

About the location

Cartmel 2 miles; Lake Windermere 8 miles; Kendal 10 miles.

The charming Edwardian resort of Grange-over-Sands is set between the Lake District fells and Morecambe Bay and offers one of the mildest climates in the north of England. Formerly a small fishing village, the introduction of the Furness Railway transformed Grange-over-Sands into a fashionable Edwardian resort. Today, the town has much to offer the visitor including a traffic-free promenade, delightful ornamental gardens, golf courses, brass band concerts and excellent bird watching. Just a short drive away are Lake Windermere (8 miles), the villages of Bowness-on-Windermere and Hawkshead, which still retain the charm and character that has endeared them to so many, and the home of sticky toffee pudding, Cartmel, with its famous racecourse and the L’Enclume restaurant, which has been voted the 4th best restaurant in the UK. Other attractions in the area include Levens Hall, with its Elizabethan Hall and world famous topiary gardens, Holker Hall, Furness Abbey, Sizergh Castle, a National Trust medieval house and gardens, and Conishead Priory, a Gothic revival country house. There is also the 25 mile Cistercian Way which starts at Grange over Sands. Set amidst the southern lakes, the attractive town of Grange-over-Sands makes a superb base from which to enjoy the whole of this magical area.
