  • "This is the 2nd time I have stayed at Bakers Rest with my sons, my only criticism is it's a little outdated with the furniture."

Plus the skylights windows albeit great for airflow, we had heavy rain and there was a pool of water that gathered when we arrived back in from a walk due to the window configuration on the top floor.

  • "The property was perfect for our family group of 7 during our time in the Lake District."

We took several hikes and found everything we needed in Grasmere, so never really left! The main room was very comfortable and there was plenty of room for everyone, whether they were working on the puzzle, watching the telly or looking out of the window at the pastoral view, with sheep! We all appreciated the en-suite baths. We cooked in for several meals and the kitchen had all the utensils, etc. that were needed. The Co-op and Tweedies were close by and we visited them often. We highly recommend Bakers Rest for a group stay!

Thank you for your lovely feedback, we are pleased you enjoyed your stay in our cottage and would love to welcome you back again in the future. Property Owner

  • "Great cottage, well located."

Kitchen decorated and maintained to high level. Instructions were clear and precise. Only area of note was that the en suite in the downstairs room(2 single beds) plaster is starting to crack and showing signs of wear. Would recommend to anyone looking to stay in Grasmere,

Thank you for your feedback, we are aware the cottage is in need of some TLC, and have withdrawn the cottage at the end of the year to do some upgrades to bathrooms. We would love for you to stay again and see the improvements made. David and Julia Property Owner

The cottage itself has ample room for everyone, all the facilities you could need, good quality furniture, bedding and the rest! Four en-suite bathrooms, two fridges, dishwasher, washing machine….we needed for nothing! We will be back

  • "This was our much awaited return visit to Bakers rest, and upon return unfortunately things were not as good this time."

Upon arrival the wifi wasn't working so we contacted the office numerous times to try and rectify the situation but it didn't resolve it! My brother runs his own company and was having to spend a little more time on the phone unfortunately, we were asked to put the key in the key lock in case the maintenance team had to come out, and upon return we really struggled to reopen the box as the keyring had jarred the box, we managed the next day to retrieve the key but if both had been in there we'd of been locked out so maybe remove the tag from the one set of keys. Also the cleanliness wasn't as good as our previous visit, sticky table surfaces, we had to wipe them down, marks down the side of the sofa, there were dried food under the dining room table and some parts of the apartment are looking tired, something needs to be done about the leaky radiator in the hallway too as its staining the carpet. Also there were clothes left behind from a previous guest in one of the drawers in the bedroom opposite the kitchen, they are still there, you may wish to remove them. This was a much awaited return but we left a little disappointed and in the times that we are living in at the moment cleanliness should be top priority. I was the organiser of our family getaway and I feel the responsibility of how efficient things are, I am leaving this feedback for you to try and improve the situation for future guests. Mrs Anslow

  • "You asked me for feedback Unfortunately not impressed with Bakers Rest cottage 972230."

it was advertised with a washing machine I was contacted on arrival to say it was out of order and to arrange an engineer to visit to repair. We are an elderly couple and where isolating due to covid we did not want workmen in .I don't believe this could not be done before we arrived. Secondly anyone looking at the lounge photo would think the furniture was as shown, can I suggest that a member of your team go to this cottage sit on the settee for an hour or two. The big cushions for the backrest continually crumpled into a heap and did not stay upright as on the photo they were grossly uncomfortable. I wouldn't give this suit to charity. I was relieved that the rest of my family could not make it due to the poor seating. I understand Grasmere is very popular but this cottage is not worth the price. There was no description regarding the very low ceilings in the upper two bedrooms and ensuite ok for 5 foot 6in adults or children, some indication on the height would have been useful. Please try to be more descriptive when selling cottage rentals it is what encourages people to rebook. I hope my review is put on your website so holidaymakers have a true picture of what they are renting. S.Harrison

  • "The property was beautiful, very spacious, well equipped and comfortable for the 6 adults that stayed there."

There were a few minor issues, nothing that affected our holiday but we reported and Sykes responded very promptly. The car park passes were invaluable although the car park can get very busy and there are times when space is at a premium. Fortunately being a little out of season we didn't have any issues. Would certainly book again to stay here, it was perfect

It is well-equipped and in a good location for walking from Grasmere. Only issues this time were the toilets on the top floor not flushing properly, which has been a problem since about 2014.

Clean and well presented. WiFi was very poor when it worked (mostly it didn’t) but that isn’t why you come to the Lakes! There is no outside space, but a beautiful beer Garden 1 minute away. Brilliant walks start at the doorstep. I would definitely come back here. Thank you.

We all had our own room with ensuite bathroom and plenty of room in the kitchen to cook a nice meal. The house was spotlessly clean and very welcoming. The correspondence with Sykes Cottages was always very clear. We will definitely book through Sykes again, it was very stress-free. All in all we had the most wonderful holiday!!

About the location

GRASMERE

Ambleside 5 miles; Windermere 9 miles; Keswick 13 miles.

Situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park is the lovely village of Grasmere, probably best known as the home of William Wordsworth, a place he once described as "The most loveliest spot that man hath found". Any visit to Grasmere needs to include The Grasmere Gingerbread shop, where the Wilson family has been making gingerbread for over 60 years. Also in the village are a number of shops, pubs, a church which dates back to the 13th century, and Grasmere Lake. Grasmere Sports takes place every August, where you can watch participants compete in a variety of sports, including Cumberland wrestling. Just five miles away is the town of Ambleside and Lake Winderemere where you will find shops, pubs, restaurants and the 17th century Bridge House, which is one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District. Cruises, boat trips and watersports can all be enjoyed on Lake Windermere, and the towns of Windermere and Keswick are also within driving distance. Grasmere is a wonderful base for your Lake District retreat.
