  • "Bathroom felt damp even though we had great weather."

A beautiful cottage the green to the front a great evening retreat.

So pleased that you liked the position of the cottage on the village green. We haven't ever experienced the bathroom as feeling damp during our stays over the years. As you say, the weather was warm and dry. I can only think that steam from showers/baths wasn't clearing fast enough. I would recommend opening the bathroom quarter-light window to ventilate the room after having hot baths or showers, to supplement the automatic extractor fan. Property Owner

Other than an issue with the bathroom door which the owner offered to rectify, everything was perfect.

Everything worked easily and was super clean and comfortable....really cosy. We had a very relaxing stay which is exactly what we needed. We are even thinking of booking again x

  • "A fantastic cottage, great location in the centre of Grasmere."

Ideally placed for so many walks, we did Helm Crag, Gibson Knott and Calf Crag straight from the cottage. Great to have the parking permit, takes the concern about where to park and at what cost away. Ideally located fir buses to Ambleside via Rydal or Keswick over Dunmail Raise. Only downside was that we could only stay for three nights!, but we've remedied that by booking another week next month. A great cottage in a great location, thanks.

  • "Wonderful property."

Really comfortable stay. Lovely rooms, well appointed and equipped. Just a couple of things would make it even better - bathroom window could be double glazed....it's really cold in there even with the heating on! The initial instructions about access could be a little clearer - how to get to the back door and not to drive the car down that little lane!

  • "Everything was perfect for our four night stay."

Heating was just right, comfy beds and great shower. Thank you for leaving us cleaning products and cloths to keep on top of the washing up. We were out a lot, walking and visiting pubs, so we didn’t really use radio or television but we made a meal when we got home and everything we needed was there. Great location and a great little cottage.

  • "We are very happy our stay at Daffodil Cottage, and would happily stay again."

The cottage is in an excellent location in the centre of Grasmere, with shops and cafes literally on our doorstep, and was a great base for walking in the area. Public transport is also close by. The cottage itself is cosy and well equipped, and we made good use of the Smart TV which gave access to Netflix, Amazon, All4, iPlayer etc. We found the owners very approachable - as this was Christmas week the owner dropped off a card and bottle of wine, which was a lovely gesture. We would happily recommend this cottage - it compares favourably with other places we have stayed in the Lakes.

  • "Good location but arctic bathroom The location of the cottage is excellent, in the centre of Grasmere, ideal for the village and for walking."

The main part of the cottage, ie the kitchen and living room downstairs and the two bedrooms upstairs, was snug and warm. However, the bathroom is in a single storey extension at the rear: the only heating in the extension was a heated towel rail which made no impression at all in warming the bathroom. With freezing temperatures outside during our stay, the bathroom was arctic.

Good facilities and extras, ( hand soap, cream, kitchen apparatus and cleaning equipment. Just one criticism, the thermostat was in the lounge and cottage never really came up to temperature. Bathroom especially chilly.

  • "The cottage is in a perfect location, it was nice to park the car up for a week and do some fantastic walks right from the front door!"

Extremely comfortable bed and the kitchen had everything you needed. The only down side was the size of the towels, which were really inadequate, especially for my husband who is 6ft! I’d definitely take my own next time.

  • "Daffodil Cottage is in a great position in the middle of the lovely village of Grasmere, in a row of old cottages opposite the village green and close to all the cafes and shops."

On arrival we were able to park directly outside the cottage to unload the car, and we then parked it in a car park about a two minute walk away using the parking permit provided. There is a very handy Co-Op just round the corner which has a good range of stock, and a stone's throw from the 599 open top bus stop. Internally the cottage is very cosy, and quite well kitted out, and though not ultra modern the decor/furniture befits the ambience of the village, with its Wordsworth sites and famous gingerbread shop. One criticism is that in the kitchen there is too much in the way of cutlery/crockery/pans etc considering the accommodation is for 2 or3 persons, and although the house had been well cleaned generally, there were a few slightly grubby items in the kitchen which would have been impossible for any cleaner to deal with as there is so much of it! Also, though quaint, we did miss some home from home luxuries: there is no toilet/bathroom upstairs for example near the bedroom, and the lounge furniture is a bit lacking. Overall though, we enjoyed our stay at Daffodil Cottage, we thought it was good value for money and would definitely book it again if ever we were to return to the Lakes.

  • "This is a cosy and warm house with excellent facilities."

We liked the parking arrangements which I find are more important in practice than they might seem in theory. Location was wonderful. House was comfortable and was a good place to come back to in the evening after a day on the fells. The back porch was very useful for damp coats and boots! The house had been very well prepared by the cleaning staff and we appreciated this.

  • "The cottage was just as we’d hoped; very clean, well equipped and right at the centre of Grasmere."

There are many walks that can be started right from the door and great little shops just a step away. We did find arrival (in the dark) tricky as we had to locate the back lane to get to the back door with the key box - clearer arrival instructions including a small map or a house number by the back door would have helped enormously. The only other minor disappointment was no dishwasher. Although the cottage as a whole was immaculately clean, much of the cutlery and some crockery used by previous occupants needed rewashing before we could use them - not ideal given the current pandemic. That said, we have just rebooked for next year so, overall, very pleased with our stay and looking forward to returning.

Clearer instructions needed please. A dishwasher in property would make it perfect. Some of dishes were dirty from previous users a dishwasher would resolve this! Otherwise lovely location and great holiday cottage. If had a dishwasher would definitely rent again. Lovely coffee shop and bake house next door. Great pubs and restaurants easy walking distance. It would be busy in summer months so not for anyone looking for full peace and quiet.

It is in a perfect central location with beautiful views over the village and fells, with good heating and facilities, it is well apportioned and very nicely decorated. We appreciated a decent TV and DVD player and it was very clean. Nice comfy beds and linen. Parking voucher. The cottage was a big part of our great stay in lovely Grasmere.

  • "The cottage was in a wonderful location surrounded by the fells with all the local amenities available in the village as well as lots of beautiful walks close by."

The cottage was comfortably furnished , tastefully decorated with a well equipped kitchen. The bathroom located on the ground floor was fine for us with one exception, the shower head was damaged and could do with being replaced with one that doesn’t have such a wide spray head on, as we had to point it towards the outside wall to stop the water spraying over the edge of the bath. We thought the parking for the car was a bit tight but good that it was off the road. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and would recommend Sykes cottages, we have used them several times and I am sure we will use them again in the future, kind regards, Bev and Ian from Rutland.

Situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park is the lovely village of Grasmere, probably best known as the home of William Wordsworth, a place he once described as "The most loveliest spot that man hath found". Any visit to Grasmere needs to include The Grasmere Gingerbread shop, where the Wilson family has been making gingerbread for over 60 years. Also in the village are a number of shops, pubs, a church which dates back to the 13th century, and Grasmere Lake. Grasmere Sports takes place every August, where you can watch participants compete in a variety of sports, including Cumberland wrestling. Just five miles away is the town of Ambleside and Lake Winderemere where you will find shops, pubs, restaurants and the 17th century Bridge House, which is one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District. Cruises, boat trips and watersports can all be enjoyed on Lake Windermere, and the towns of Windermere and Keswick are also within driving distance. Grasmere is a wonderful base for your Lake District retreat.
