  • "An absolutely delightful Cottage in a central location in the beautiful Village of Grasmere."

On entering the property we immediately knew we had made the right choice. This cottage has a real WOW factor, it is cosy, immaculate and the attention to detail from the quality furniture to the soft furnishings really is on point. This was further enhanced with the very generous welcome package of Fresh Bread, Milk, Butter, Biscuits and Chocolate. This really is a superb property in a prime location and is literally a second’s walk from the local pubs, shops and restaurants and I couldn’t recommend more highly. We have learnt that this property is part of a small group and we are now looking to visit all of them starting with their Prospect Studio in Ambleside in a few weeks from now. This is purely based on the quality and attention to detail we experienced at Poppy’s Cottage. This certainty will not be our last visit to Poppy’s Cottage and the only downside was having to leave. Thank you to the owners and to all those involved in making our stay so comfortable, enjoyable and memorable…. Simply put ‘Outstanding ‘

Thank you so much for your review! We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay ay Poppy's Cottage.....we love it too! We look forward to welcoming you at Prospect Studio very soon! Property Owner

Very clean, comfortable, well appointed and welcoming. Free parking just around the corner was a real bonus. Really good to be so central for walking, eating out and browsing in shops. Very comfy sofas and beds and a view of the fells from the front windows! In addition ,the little patio garden and the boot/ dryingr room made everything complete for a brilliant holiday destination.

Larger bath sheets would be appreciated & summer tog duvets & sheets as an alternative for us menopausal women (when warm weather is forecast)! A small amount of washing detergent would be useful seeing as a washing machine is available & a spare bin bag too. We noticed that there was a fish slice missing.... The food tray was amazing & very generous thank you-very much appreciated. These are all trivial & minor points & did not detract from yet another comfortable stay at this beautiful home from home. We are definitely planning to come back in 2024!

Thank you for your feedback Lynn; we agree that Poppy's Cottage is a beautiful home from home! We do take advice from Sykes regarding the amenities that we provide within the cottage, however we will replace the fish slice if it has disappeared! We are glad you enjoyed the welcome pack. Second time to stay there. We had quite some rain this time - which as a consequence of gutter overflow from the shop next door gave a continual dripping noise if sleeping in the front bedroom. Not your fault - but May wish to speak with your neighbour to fix the gutter. Otherwise a perfect stay! We love it! Douglas and Christine Ullah - tel 07711 756940

Lovely decor, well maintained. Excellent quality furniture - “Ercol” bedside tables for instance. Loved every minute of our week there. Kitchen needs a wall cupboard or more shelves for storage of food eg cans, drinks, crisps etc that don’t require refrigeration but are otherwise taking up work surface and can be sometimes in the sun. Another key would be very useful not just for when people go out in different directions but for easy access to rear yard and bins without having to keep taking it from front door . We were a little apprehensive about going anywhere due to Covid but the cottage and everything in it was absolutely spotless so we felt relaxed and reassured. We were also very appreciative of the advice produced by Sykes before the holiday and a reminder of the things we should take in the light of Covid. We love this cottage and feel completely at home here. The attention to detail is fantastic. We didn't want to venture into pubs and restaurants so we were fairly self sufficient. However we did order some very nice sour dough pizzas on our first night which were delivered from Ambleside and on our last night we had an amazing take away meal from 'The Jumble Room' in Grasmere. We rebooked Pollys Cottage for just ourselves on a different date. We were very glad we did as I’m not sure the friendship would have lasted the week. Although very comfortable we felt it was too small for two couples. With two cars the cost of parking would have been a bone of contention as there was only one parking permit for the cottage. There were no instructions for the microwave (though I found some on the internet). We were asked to make sure we emptied the bin in the kitchen ‘regularly’ but no replacement bag was provided. We try to ensure we recycle as much as possible but the recycling information was very sketchy. We ended up returning home with all our glass and cans as we were unable to find suitable recycling facilities. We enjoyed our week but had we taken our original booking I’m not sure we would have done.

  • "Fabulous cottage in a perfect location."

Just a couple of observations from us (not complaints but we feel they would improve the overall experience of Poppy's Cottage). This was the most expensive cottage we have ever rented in the Lake District so it needs to present itself accordingly please:- 1. Towels - larger bath towels (sheets) would be lovely - the bath towels supplied only just cover the bare necessities so functional but not luxury. I was at fear of exposing myself to my brother-in-law which would have been a pretty scary experience for him :). 2. Kitchen towel (only 1?) and tea towels (2). We like to cook at home when we are away so could have done with a few more towels and tea towels. 3. Very disappointed to have to buy washing tablets and fabric conditioner (none supplied), washing up liquid, toilet cleaner, etc. There were a few dishwasher tablets but we are used to having these items provided and only topping them up if needs be. We are also used to leaving behind anything that we have bought for the next visitor. We took everything that we had purchased home with us on this occasion. It gave the impression that the cottage was all about show and not about providing the ultimate cottage experience. 4. The second bedroom makes use of a storage cupboard on the landing as there is absolutely no space for anything in the room. This in itself is not a huge problem (the photos are deceptive on the size of the room to be honest), however, a light in the cupboard would have been helpful as my sister spent ages with a torch in the cupboard looking for her clothes!! 5. The sofas are not comfortable - after a long day climbing Helvellyn, etc, when you do decide to stay in for an evening it would be have been nice to have comfortable sofas (minimally footstools provided). There were 4 of us so we were somewhat perched which wasn't great. 6. The outside 'laundry/drying' room was a god send - perfect for all of our walking equipment and great to have a heater in there to dry out the wet clothing. 7. TV services were excellent - great to have internet TV with iPlayer, Netflix, etc. Overall, I would give this cottage 9/10 - if the owner just went a little bit further it could so easily be a 10 and we would definitely be back!

Poppy’s cottage is cosy and comfortable. The decor and furnishings are tasteful and of a high quality. Showers were hot and strong and the kitchen well equipped. The courtyard space looked lovely but unfortunately a week of rain meant we weren’t able to use it ! If we had been able to sit out I don’t think the garden chairs would have been too comfortable for long so it would be nice if some relaxer type chairs were also provided ( they could be stored in the wet room). Poppy’s is located in the heart of Grasmere with many cafes and shops close by so lovely to stroll out (even in the rain) . However it does mean that passers by continually stop to look in and even sit on the outside wall which can get a little annoying. Overall a lovely cottage from which to explore a beautiful part of the UK.

The owner has renovated Poppy's Cottage to a very high spec indeed and there is everything you could possibly need and then some. Tastefully decorated throughout and having the benefit of 2 bathrooms ( a large family and an en suite). The cottage is very comfortable and has only just been renovated and put on the holiday market so is all shiny and new and far superior to some cottages we have experienced. The TV is also a proper 4k large unit, so we got our evening 'strictly takes 2' fix with Zoe in style. We also had pretty good weather too, not bad for October!. The annex houses the washer/dryer and a thoughtfully placed panel heater and hooks are provided to dry your wet walking gear. There are numerous great walks right from the door and we barely used the car all week....parking was no issue due to the parking permit allowing us to park the car 24/7 in a nearby car park about 100 yards away, you are allowed to unload right outside the door too which is useful. We turned up on the first Friday of the month which is market day, but the stall holders helped us gain access and then we had some nice produce to buy right on the doorstep!. About the location

GRASMERE

Ambleside 5 miles; Windermere 9 miles; Keswick 13 miles.

Situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park is the lovely village of Grasmere, probably best known as the home of William Wordsworth, a place he once described as "The most loveliest spot that man hath found". Any visit to Grasmere needs to include The Grasmere Gingerbread shop, where the Wilson family has been making gingerbread for over 60 years. Also in the village are a number of shops, pubs, a church which dates back to the 13th century, and Grasmere Lake. Grasmere Sports takes place every August, where you can watch participants compete in a variety of sports, including Cumberland wrestling. Just five miles away is the town of Ambleside and Lake Winderemere where you will find shops, pubs, restaurants and the 17th century Bridge House, which is one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District. Cruises, boat trips and watersports can all be enjoyed on Lake Windermere, and the towns of Windermere and Keswick are also within driving distance. Grasmere is a wonderful base for your Lake District retreat.
