  • "A comfortable and warm cottage, conveniently situated for easy access to Windermere and beyond."

Exactly as described. We (5 adults) enjoyed our stay tremendously, in spite of rain and would definitely return.

  • "We stayed with 2 kids and my dad - who took the spacious downstairs bedroom of this lovely comfy cottage in an ideal location for exploring the Lake District."

The village pub, fantastic farm shop & cafe and service station are nearby and the cottage itself is on the fringe of a clean and quiet holiday park by a river. The cottage is warm and clean with comfortable beds and living space. It has all the kitchen essentials for self catering. My only feedback would be layman’s instructions on using the washer / dryer. I was unable to get the drying cycle to work for our swimming towels despite googling the manual. Also maybe a handrail to assist showering in/out of the bath. We had such a wonderful stay, thank you.

  • "The cottage is perfectly located on a quiet but friendly caravan park."

Ideal for visiting lots of parts of the Lakes. Site staff were super friendly and helpful. The cottage is clean and compact. The bathroom is lovely and the heated flooring meant that we were all very warm. (The dog was a bit confused!) The lack of any significant cupboards, however does mean you are 'living out of your bag' particularly when you have to pack for all weather for a trip to the Lakes. Only tiny bedside table drawers available. The other thing I would say is pack everything that you are going to need if you are cooking. There is nothing provided at all in the kitchen. I got caught out this time as I forgot to pack salt and pepper/olive oil. Not a problem as there is a garage locally which had everything we needed. But usually holiday cottages have a few bits and pieces to use.

For us it was fine but for 5 people the sitting room and kitchen would be a bit cramped Loved the underfloor heating. But better instructions as where things are would help -even if it’s look in the drawer in the living room!

  • "This was a lovely place to stay and as my first booking for a staycation I'm delighted with the experience!"

The cottage was relatively easy to find (though the road in is quite narrow) and everything was as instructed. Place was immaculately clean and it had all the amenities necessary including dishwashing tablets. The location was as tranquil as I hoped and the cottage was lovely and cosy! The only thing that surprised me was finding it was an attached property which didn't seem so obvious from the description photos. Otherwise, very pleased with my visit and I would definitely consider it again in the future.

  • "The cottage was really lovely ,clean and comfortable ,within a quiet park, with great views out of the living room windows."

It is in a fabulous location to be able to visit different areas of interest and on a really handy bus route— leave your car parked up . Across the road is a brewery and pub which was great and down the road is the Hawkshead Brewery in Staveley —walkable or bus route. Overall, would recommend this property wholeheartedly and was really sad to leave. May I wish all future holiday makers a terrific time

  • "The Cottage is basically comfortable and in a great location, but a few details need attention."

Bathroom could do with updating and has a noisy cistern. Outside seating is needs renewing. Privacy in the Lounge is an issue as it has a large window directly facing the main route through the site (nets perhaps?). The lounge seating would be insufficient for 5 people but was fine for 2 of us. These are little things that did not detract from a wonderful week.

  • "We love Millrace Cottage, and this was our third time staying there."

It is very comfortable and well presented, and we had another great stay. Thank you! While we were there this time there was a problem with the hot water, and after I rang in to report it, the owner had an engineer come the same afternoon to sort out the issue. It was resolved promptly with no fuss at all, and friendly and polite service from everyone involved.

  • "A great comfortable little cottage with all necessary facilities included, and plenty of room for a family with a pet."

The cottage is only a couple of miles from Windermere and also close to Kendal. Personally, I'm not a lover of the latches on the doors, particularly when one needs to use the facilities in the night. Attention to detail of minor maintenance would make it perfect. Thanks

  • "The whole experience from start to finish was amazing."

I've read other feedback on this property & where negative it was unjust, yes it's not a mansion (it's a cottage) however it was ample size for 5 of us (3 children) & even though there was space in the cottage for 'me time' the whole point was to spend family time & the beautiful outdoors meant we ventured out every day. Yes the table is a little sticky but that's down to the varnish finish & it wasn't dirty in the slightest. The place was clean & looked picturesque. The dryer isn't the best but the fact it has one is a bonus. The beds were comfortable, along with the duvet & pillows, almost too comfortable making getting up that little harder. The heating was very good, on occasions we had to open a window to balance the temperature, probably because we didn't get round to looking how to set the thermostats. The boiler did have a little issue on one if the mornings however we called the help number provided & by the time we got back from a short outing the engineer was on site & quickly fixed the issue - great service. The fridge freezer is big enough to stock up & the kitchen had everything needed to cook up meals. Large Asda just 15 mins drive away & another supermarket nearer at Windermere, so this place was ideally located. Great views from the window, more than a cottage it was an experience.

  • "We had to stay in on three seperate occasions for the heating system to be looked at ."

From no hot water in the bath and shower to boiling hot heating in one room and then freezing cold for the rest of our holiday . Eventually we were left over christmas with no heating . There were other issues which I won't bother going into . I bought the Complaint to Sykes who took it up with the owners who said " the issues are resolved " and that what that ! No sorry , no refund of any kind . Frankly if that was my property I would've given some refund . I would've also apologised for a very uncomfortable stay . I book a lot of cottages with Sykes and this was not up to usual standard . I wasn't going to leave a review as I thought I'd wait to see if the owners were going to offer something back . It wasn't a cheap stay . We were there for over ten days . No sanitiser , no bleach , blunt knives , short duvet cover the main bedroom . No welcome basket . Not even salt or pepper . The feeling of meaness hangs in the air at Millrace . However it was clean . Would not recommend .

  • "Very clean and tidy cottage, a little on the tight side for 2 adults and 2 teenagers, ideally located to visit places."

More instructors/ labels for what and where things are would be helpful. We had no idea till at least a few days into our holiday that the switch on the wall outside the bathroom turned on the towel heater. Also a very sticky kitchen table, couldn't get it off no matter what we used. A little over priced to say it was October and not the school holidays.

  • "It would be a very good idea to put some instructions in the house about how to work things especially for overseas visitors."

It took us 5 days to figure out how to turn the heat on. The washer works but we never got the dryer function to work necessitating a trip to the launderette and lots of soggy clothes on the towel rail. We didn't quite get the broiler figured out. Some labels on all the power switches as to which appliance they work would be helpful. These are small simple easy fixes that would help a great deal. Otherwise a lovely clean well-appointed comfortable cottage. Any staff we have spoken to have been polite and helpful.

  • "Nice place, very practical location."

So close to both Windemere and Kendall and with a pub at walking distance... big bonus. However, we didn't realise the cottage itself was right on the grounds (just after the entrance) of a holiday park. Also, the toilets made a weird, awfully loud, noise when flushing, waking up people in the night. Hopefully a plumber can fix this for the next people to stay in this cottage, but it was great to have two toilets though, especially when you come back from a day-trip and everyone has to go at the same time ;). I think £800+ p/w in September was a bit steep for this cottage, but below £600 we would probably consider staying again. The cottage was nice and clean and the beds were comfortable. Thank you.
