  • "Lovely spacious cottage in a beautiful location, with stunning views."

The welcome pack was outstanding & a lovely touch to our stay, as the owners very kindly accommodated us at short notice. A couple of things would of helped with the stay, a dustpan & brush, a loo brush, but unfortunately the main problem was the discomfort of the mattress & pillows in the fitted wardrobe bedroom, which unfortunately led to a restless night's sleep. A shame that the pub that is 1.9miles away, is no longer a pub, but putting that aside, if we were in the area, we would look at stopping again, & would definitely recommend, if you want a peaceful location with stunning scenery.

The cottage is clearly well maintained and the facilities are good, we shall be coming back and hopefully the weather will be a bit kinder as it rained everyday we were there, you cannot win them all.

  • "A lovely comfortable and clean cottage."

It is well equipped with all you need. The kitchen is roomy and has plenty of good utensils and crockery. It has glorious views, from all the rooms, of a typical Yorkshire Dale, just lovely. So peaceful, just sheep to watch. We loved it. We had a lovely 'welcome basket' with bits to assist our immediate arrival. We would thoroughly recommend it.

  • "Our family of four had a lovely time at this idyllically positioned cottage."

It was so peaceful with just nature as our neighbour. The view is amazing from all windows and the cottage itself was very clean and well equipt. We were left a generous hamper from the kind owners who were very helpful. A car is essential as there are no shops nearby but that was a reason we chose this cottage for our holiday. We hope to stay again.

  • "Simply put it was perfect."

A truly amazing location providing peace and relaxation with stunning scenery. Starting the day sitting on the patio with our morning coffee listening to curlew and lapwings with the gentle backdrop of the stream whilst enjoying the breathtaking view. The extremely generous welcome pack was greatly appreciated and was just another example of the high level of attention to detail and thought that the owners had clearly put into this holiday cottage. Thank you

  • "Just returned from a week away in this beautiful cottage."

Stunning views and isolation made this a perfect get away from it all break. Ideal location for visiting surrounding areas. The break was enjoyed by all the family, including our 19 month old grandson, who delighted in seeing the sheep every morning! Will definitely be returning in the future.

  • "Garth Gill Cottage was one of the best places we have stayed, a real home from home, we didn't want to leave you, stunning!"

On arrival a basket with wine, bread, jams and other treats welcomed us. The cottage was warm and inviting, it's remote plot on the hills give you a sense of peace and privacy but not far from village shops at Hawes it's perfect for anyone wanting a relaxing holiday. The views from the windows are unspoiled hills and sheeps, cows and red squirrels (if your lucky) as the neighbours. Close to all the main attractions and brilliant for walkers, with some of the best walks on your doorstep and only 30 minutes or so from the 3 peaks challenge. It was a joy each evening to come back after a long walk on the mountains to light the fire and settle down for the night. I recommend Malham a must see, Whernside and the Viaduct and a drive to Skipton to visit the beautiful town. Julie and Ian are fantastic hosts, happy to help with anything that you might need to know. We definitely will be back! Thanks for making our holiday wonderful. Sam and Adam

  • "Beautiful cottage in a great isolated location."

All the facilities you need, if your on the tall side beware of the foot of the double bed, I’m 6’3” and had to sleep diagonally. Great views of the valley and Settle - Carlisle railway across the valley.

  • "This is a fantastic cottage which is located in stunning Wensleydale countryside."

We were lucky enough to be the first visitors to Garth Gill and were so happy with the facilities and peaceful location. The cottage is located off a very quiet road and is completely detached from other properties. Good parking access and large area for kids to play. Unhindered views, which incorporate the Settle to Carlisle railway line in the distance. The interior is a mixture of traditional and modern decor which has been very tastefully assembled. The owners were incredibly helpful and friendly if ever we needed anything and they provided a very nice welcome hamper which was awaiting us on arrival. Our only disappointment was that we couldn’t spend longer at Garth Gill.

About the location

HAWES

Leyburn 16 miles.

Hawes is a popular market town in the Richmondshire district of North Yorkshire and is regarded as one of the honeypot tourist attractions of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Standing between Buttertubs and Fleet Moss, the town is an excellent centre for walking and touring Wensleydale and the adjoining dales of Swaledale, Cotterdale, Dentdale, Garsdale, Wharfedale and Chapel-le-Dale. Take a walk around the Hawes Town Trail, Millennium Walk, Pennine Way or along the River Ure, which is nearby. In 1998 Hawes was awarded the English Tourist Board Silver Award for the "Best Day Trip Out". Modern traffic has long replaced coaches and horse drawn wagons along its narrow streets, but market day (Tuesdays) in Hawes is as busy as ever, with a farmers’ auction attracting sheep farmers from all over the north of England. Traditional shops, cafés and inns now cater for a variety of Dales visitors as well as the local community. The award-winning Wensleydale Creamery, made famous by the animated Wallace and Grommit films, is now open to visitors so that they can see the famous cheese being made and sample the end product in a welcoming café. In the old station yard you will find the busy National Park Centre and Dales Countryside Museum. The Museum is home to the magnificent collection of Dales artefacts by the two great Dales historians and writers, Marie Hartley and Joan Ingilby.
