“This is a wonderful cottage in a beautiful setting.”

Views from the front garden are beautiful. The cottage itself is a perfect mix of the very old with the comforts of modern life with good WiFi, power shower and lovely comfortable beds. We had a wonderfully relaxing week.

About the property

A traditional stone-built cottage located in Gunnerside, a picturesque village in the Yorkshire Dales.

This miner's cottage dates back to the 1780s and is thought to have originally been two cottages, making for a spacious holiday retreat.

Set over two floors, the cottage has been sympathetically renovated in keeping with the old charm of this historic building.

The ground floor sitting room exudes character and has many original features such as the stone-built fire surround with woodburning stove, perfect for relaxing in front of after enjoying a day out in the stunning local countryside.

On this floor you will also find the spacious kitchen with dining area which offers a great space to enjoy a meal or socialise with family or friends.

Heading up to the first floor, you will find the master bedroom with its iron-framed king-size bed.

The second bedroom provides zip/link twin beds that can accommodate a variety of groups, and features a sash window seat, overlooking the village green and beyond.

Both beds are completed with Egyptian cotton bed linen for a real touch of luxury.

To the front is an idyllic south-facing patio area, ideal for sitting out and taking in the village and the charm of Swaledale.

There is also a great village pub just 2 minutes walk away.

This is a fantastic base for walkers, from a stroll along the river to a climb up Gunnerside Gill.

There is a fish and chip van that arrives in the village on a Friday night and Ghyllfoot Tea Room.

Situated in a prime location for touring around the area, this cottage is just a short drive from the market towns of Hawes, Leyburn and Richmond.

Reeth, Aysgarth Falls, Semerwater and Hardraw Force are all nearby and well worth a visit.

This delightful cottage provides wonderful accommodation for a relaxing break in one of the most beautiful areas of the country!

About the location

Reeth 6 miles; Richmond 15 miles.

Situated in the heart of Swaledale, Gunnerside is one of the prettiest villages in the Dales National Park. Something of a sleepy backwater, it is surrounded by traditional farm meadows, pastures and fells, with the pretty Gunnerside Beck running through the village centre before joining the glorious River Swale on the village outskirts. Amongst the cluster of old stone houses there is Ghyllfoot Tea Room and the village pub serves good food at lunchtime and in the evening. The market towns of Richmond, Leyburn, Hawes and Barnard Castle are all within 15 miles making Gunnerside a scenic and central base from which to tour the Dales.
