Better than the photos. Boot room excellent bedroom for the dogs! The only thing we would mention is the comfort, or lack of, concerning the two sofas. Otherwise excellent in every way including location and communication with owners.

Easy access to the major roads was ideal for us as we had family to visit in the region as well as visiting the lakes. The fully enclosed garden was fantastic for the dog.

  • "The cottage is absolutely stunning, everything there has been done to a very high standard."

The bathrooms are luxurious. We especially loved the exposed stone and wood beams in the property. The roads are quite loud but once inside the property we couldn’t hear them. We had a small issue with a lack of toilet roll and fairy liquid but the owner rectified it very quickly. The only recommendation we have is that the kitchen could be a little more equipped. A few extra things like more oven trays, chopping board, maybe a mixing bowl and scales for holiday pancakes would really make this a home from home. Overall one of the highest standard properties we’ve stayed in. We’d highly recommend.

  • "Fabulous property, lovely size for three couples, the ensuite was beautiful and all baths and showers were great."

The beds were all comfortable and we slept very well throughout our stay. The utility and garden were great for our dogs. Our only one suggestion would be for a clothes airer as we got very wet one day and had to use the radiators which then puts dampness in the rooms. Thank you for the beautifully clean cottage, I would highly recommend this cottage for others.

  • "Our second visit to Hillrise by choice."

We all loved it, it is a very comfortable home from home. Plenty of space for 6 adults. Kitchen is well equipped and stylish. Bathrooms the same. Plenty of super hot water for a great shower or bathing. Three lovely bedrooms. Great space for muddy boots and wet dogs. The washing machine was essential this last week after 3 days at the Festival. Thanks to whoever left the Monopoly City, very entertaining. We will book again for next year hopefully. Love it.

  • "No criticism here but some points I would raise."

Firstly no milk on arrival which I thought would be in the fridge. Second there were no instructions for any of the appliances so we were unable to work out why the toaster wouldn't stay down but had to be held down. Finally there was only one green refuse bag so we were unable to separate plastics and paper. That said we all thought the property was fantastic and would definitely book it again. Many thanks for a great holiday in sunny Cumbria !

  • "We throughly enjoyed our stay at Hillrise between 12th and 19th May."

The property is perfectly located, and was clean and comfortable. We would certainly be very happy to stay in the property again. My only comment for improvement at the property is either a grab handle, or a non slip shower mat in the en-suite shower. This is particularly important for the over 70’s who are less steady on their feet.

  • "Hill Rise is a lovely spacious property, with secure garden for dogs and kids."

Kitchen is well equipped. The bedrooms and the bathrooms were lovely. The sloping floor caught me out a few times, but only added character. We were a group of 4 adults (2 couples) and 2 young kids. Nice to have a room each, but if we were staying longer the kids would've been better in a twin room but don't know if that would be possible. Great location: quiet, close to main roads out, great foot path opposite the front, and a lovely view out the back. Thank-you for letting us stay in your beautiful home.

  • "Stayed three nights at this Hillrise and found it to be very clean, warm, cosy and relaxing."

It is ideally located to explore the lakes, but not too far away from everything, with Penrith being near if you want a supermarket or to eat out. Also the Sun Inn at Pooley Bridge serves excellent traditional pub food. Thoroughly enjoyed our few days at this cottage.

Very cosy in cold weather. It is “in the sticks” so car is a necessity. The owners family are easily contactable by phone to help with any queries that guests might have.

Facilities very good. Weather very wet so didn’t spend long in well kept garden except to play with dogs. Cannot hear motorway noise when inside house despite being so close. Would happily visit again. Only problem was overgrown bush obscuring view to right when leaving property. Really enjoyed our stay.

We had a lovely week and particularly enjoyed Lowther Castle and Askham on the doorstep! Would recommend the Punchbowl in Askham for a meal. The cottage was beautifully clean and modern, whilst retaining some of it's lovely older features. It has everything you could want for a week away. Spacious and cosy at the same time. We hope to return. Thank you .

  • "A super cottage ideally situated foe exploration of the Lakes."

The facilities are great although we would have liked twin beds in one room, the grandsons aged 11 and 8 have never shared a bed before. Hillrise is very spacious both inside and out and Piper the black lab really enjoyed running up and down the garden and the boys enjoyed the space as well. Unfortunately the weather wasn't the greatest so the space inside meant we weren't on top of each other, a problem on previous holidays. We had a great week's holiday in the area and it was always a pleasure to go back to Hillrise to unwind.

We chose the bed with the best mattress but it was not comfortable. We did not sleep well. We have stayed in many self catering places at home and abroad and have never before come across bed linen that was not ironed. Clean, but creased and crumpled will not do. On the plus side, the property was spacious, with an excellent kitchen and lashings of hot water. It was well situated to explore the local area and the Lake District.

There was also the old classic of the cooker hood not having been cleaned underneath, where all the oil and grease collects - we have had this before on a number of occasions. Lack of shelf space in the en-suite bathroom, and the bedroom needs a wardrobe.

High level of finishings, lovely bedrooms and bathrooms. Dog friendly with a cool utility for the dog to sleep in. When we needed some bits, a quick call to the owner met with a prompt response. The garden was a good size and enclosed. Lots of parking for cars. Penrith was only a 10min drive away for shops. A Co-op, chippy and pizza place was 5 mins away in Shap. Really good base off the A66 and A6 to go through the Lakes. Would recommend happily.
