  • "Good: Washing machine, bedding, towels, sofa’s, dinner table, chairs, kitchen, TV etc."

Well furnished. Bad: • There are 2 stairs to reach the upper floor of the apartment. Both have no handrail which is quite dangerous. • The pressure on the central heating was in the danger zone twice a week, so there must be a leak somewhere. We refilled it ourselves. • Several radiators can not be switched on or switched of. In the living room is only a small electrical stove, it is hard to keep the apartment warm and comfortable. We had some freeezing mornings this week. • Several parts of the apartment haven’t been finished: No towel racks in the bathroom and kitchen, only lightbulbs in the hallways, very dirty window frames etc. • There are no bedside lights which makes reading in bed and getting up in the night difficult. • Shower need an anti slip mat or grab rails. • There is no shaving point for electric toothbrushes. • The is no coatrack in the hallway. • Only 1 frontdoor key is not enough for an apartment for 7 persons.

  • "We arrived about 5pm to find there was no electricity supply."

There was no written information supplied about the cottage -where to find things what to when we leave etc. I called the numbers supplied by yourselves firstly getting number unobtainable for the first number and an answering machine for the second. The latter never called me back. Eventually got through to someone called Tony - never got his full name - who said that the smart meter needed topped up which he did and said it should comeback on in 20 mins. It didn’t. He then contacted British Gas who said it could take up to an hour. By this time my mobile was running out of charge and it was getting dark and we had four kids to feed. Discovered Smart Meter was in the shop below to which the owner did not seem to have access. Electricity still did not come on and owner said nothing more he could do but he would give us our money back and we were welcome to leave. This was simply not practical as it was by now dark and we are elderly. We started thinking about going to an hotel but I called Sykes and found there was an emergency number. Stephen was excellent and got the power restored but at no point did the owner appear. In these circumstances we’d have expected a little more pro activity. We then discovered that the Wi-Fi wasn’t working. Four phone addicted kids found this frustrating. Grandson said there was a cable missing from the router to connect I think to the Sky Box. Owner said there was a dongle and put money on it but this didn’t work either. We gave up. Owner blamed these issues on Sykes and the cleaners. This was unfortunately not the end. Grandson running about in bare feet said the carpet was wet. Turned out a radiator was leaking. Called owner who said he was looking for a plumber but this never materialised. We did notice that the pressure on the central heating was in the danger zone but by this point we had lost the will to live with the owner. It’s a shame as the flat is well furnished and comfortable. My main complaint here would be lack of attention to detail. There are no bedside lights which makes reading in bed and getting up in the night difficult. There was no wardrobe in our room but there were coat hangers but nowhere to hang them! Shower needed an anti slip mat or grab rails and there was no shaving point for electric toothbrushes. The stairs which we were warned about would have been quite safe with the addition of a bannisters. Fortunately the weather was kind and had an enjoyable time with the kids but the stress of the first night did rather spoil a part of our break and we would like some compensation from the owner.
