"Very cozy. Very clean."
Helpful owner. Quiet location off main road in Haltwhistle. Very well-equipped for the space, Loved the area for history, scenery & walks. And, the weather was better than where we live in Somerset! Would have personally preferred just the double bed without the bunk above, as it felt a bit clausterphobic.
"This was the third time I have visited Haltwhistle, I find it a very easy to get to, attractive quiet area with lots of nice local shops."
"Nothing to fault about this place at all."
Weather was very cold but the wood stove/ heater was able to warm the place up very fast . Location is brilliant with pubs and COOP all in the town with Hadrians Wall 2 miles max . Actually the facilities were slightly better than the wording in that the TV had a DVD player, On holiday I dont watch the news but save up DVD's so this was a bonus. If I get up to Hadrians Wall again this place will be the first I check
"What a lovely place to stay!"
The accommodation with its home from home feel will certainly be visited again. I felt welcomed and relaxed in a beautiful location. Many thanks to the owners kindness and generosity. Perfect!!!
"Lovely situated for visiting Hadrian's wall and Northumberland."
Josephs hide was nice and clean had everything you needed many thanks to Stella.
"Was a really fun and lovely place to stay"
"Very friendly owners."
For a tall person, the sheperd's hut is just a little bit to tiny, but we had lovely wheater.
"Sadly the weather was very poor for May which was simply bad luck and disappointing, however the setting and shepherd hut accommodation are perfect."
Ian and Stella made us feel very welcome, really enjoyed the berry vodka bar !!! In short, nice area, great setting, lovely hosts but take a fleece just in case!! G & M Smith
"The owners Mr and MRS Hunter were very helpful, I have been a camper all my life and was quite happy but my partner felt claustrophobic in the shepherds hut and would not return but this has nothing to do with the hosts they were marvellous."
"What a fantastic quirky place to stay."
The host was so welcoming and our holiday kicked off well with complimentary wine and chocolates. The Shepherds Hut was extremely well presented and if you are after a quiet nights sleep in comfy beds, then this is the place. Location is fantastic too, so close to Hadrians Wall for exploring and walking. We really enjoyed our stay. Thank you
"Hidden away off the beaten track with lovely surroundings."
The hide was was immaculately clean with everything you need. There were towels along with little bottles of shampoo, shower gel etc. Also a complimentary bottle of wine. These were very lovely extra unexpected touches. The family owners were wonderful, very welcoming with nothing too much trouble. Great holiday. We would definitely return. We highly recommend Josephs Hide. A little hidden Gem.

This quirky shepherd’s hut is set in the grounds of the owner's home, on the edge of the market town of Haltwhistle, Northumberland.
An ideal base for a couple or friends with a lovely interior, you won’t find a more fitting romantic retreat for exploring this historical area.
Four steps lead you up to the stable door and into an open plan studio layout with a triple bunk.
There’s a kitchenette, TV, comfy seating and a warming woodburner.
What could be nicer than relaxing in front of the woodburner and enjoying a drink with your friends or partner after a fun-filled day exploring the area?
In a separate room within the hut and completing the accommodation is a shower room.
Outside is your own decked area where you can dine alfresco, a lovely place to enjoy breakfast and a coffee, or a cold drink and a meal in the evening sunshine.
The centre of Haltwhistle is within easy reach and has an abundance of pubs, restaurants and takeaways, a good alternative if you’re too tired to cook!
Well located for touring Hadrians Wall a short drive will take you to the wall with Vindolands, Birdoswald, Cawfields Cragg and Housesteads all waiting to be discovered.
Joseph’s Hide is the perfect destination for a Northumberland break.

About the location
Hexham 17 miles.
Known as the 'Centre of Britain', this small market town is a great place from which to explore both Northumberland and Cumbria. Haltwhistle boasts a good range of shops and pubs - one of which, The Black Bull, is a real ale pub serving good food! There is an excellent leisure centre with heated open air swimming pool and cycle hire in the town, with pony trekking nearby. One of the best preserved stretches of Hadrian's Wall is only a mile to the north with various museums, forts and milecastles to be seen. There is even an ongoing 'dig' at the nearby site of Vindolanda. This truly is magnificent walking, riding and cycling country, with the Pennine Way and various bridleways and cycle routes passing rivers, forests, castles and of course, Hadrian's Wall. Visitors will enjoy this location in all weather and all seasons – a regular train and bus service from the town to Newcastle, The Metro Centre and Carlisle, means that you can leave the car behind and enjoy!
