Our only issue was it is a cold cottage . We weren’t even sure the underfloor heating was working the first day . It warmed up a bit for the rest of the stay . Noticed a lot of guests have said the same thing . Thank you for your feedback, we can only apologise for the underfloor heating on the first day. We only switched it on when you arrived. It is set on a constant 21 degrees and we can see from our remote app that the temperature in the lounge was 21 degrees throughout your stay. All other rooms are controlled by electric radiators which the guests can control the temperature. Thank you for scoring the cottage a 94/100 it is greatly appreciated. Many thanks Property Owner Reviewed by SharonMar 2022 "This was our third stay at Kirrin Cottage, in previous years it’s been great but I was quite disappointed this time." There seems to be a terrible damp problem in the twin bedroom, it smelled really badly of damp. We’ve just arrived home and my kids clothes absolutely stink of damp, I’m going to have to wash everything, even clothes they didn’t wear. We want to book again for next year as the cottage suits us quite well but the damp room is really putting me off, I don’t fancy my children sleeping in there. Such a shame. Thank you for your feedback which is appreciated. We have inspected the property and cannot find any signs of dampness. We have also had further guests stay and have no reports of dampness. We would love to welcome you back for your fourth visit. Property Owner Reviewed by SarahOct 2021 "We absolutely loved our stay at Kirrin Cottage!" The cottage is beautiful and very welcoming, a real home from home. The location is superb and it is an easy 5 minute stroll into the village. We will definitely book again! Thank you for your kind feedback. We would love to welcome you back at some point in the future. Property Owner Reviewed by EmmaJul 2021 "The house was spotless and very comfortable, however, there were no instructions/information leaflets on how to dispose of the rubbish, or get the tv to work, or what to do with bedding @ end of stay." It would have been good to have a working tv. The internet /wifi was not great and often didn't connect. This didn't detract from our stay but in poorer weather we would have used the tv more. We had a great time in glorious weather. Hopefully we can return to Kirrin cottage soon. Totally recommend it and Hawkshead. Thank you. Thank you for your feedback. All rubbish is put in the Kirrin cottage bin and this is recycled at the waste recycling centre by our chosen waste company. We will now put a poster up in the cottage to explain this. We have installed a Wi-Fi booster following your comments and there are BT tv instructions in a plastic wallet in the tv drawer. Many thanks. Property Owner Reviewed by CatherineJul 2021 "The cottage was extremely cold on arrival and we were unable to alter the downstairs underfloor heating, it appeared to be locked." There is no information pack and the telephone number of the Management Company was later found buried in a draw. I've left this out for future Guests. A quick call to Sykes, who contacted them on our behalf, and the heating came on, I believe the heating is controlled remotely , so don't hesitate if you are cold. On the positive side , the cottage is close to the village and there are lots of great walks from the doorstep. A lovely seating area outside, The steps into the kitchen may be a problem for those with mobility problems , but there is a door straight into the lounge if needed. Not really suitable for young children as on a busy T junction. Thank you for your feedback. The underfloor heating is set at 21 degrees for the comfort of our guests and the electric radiators upstairs are controlled by our guests. An information back is available in the cottage and we will make sure this is left in a visible place for our next guests. Property Owner Reviewed by KarenJun 2021 "No info pack." Unable to get the TV to work, followed instructions to reboot. Underfloor heating not adequate, never worked in the kitchen, had to retreat upstairs early evening to get warm. Dodgy toilet handle and Hot Water Tap in basin in bathroom. The rug in the living room had to be taken outside and shaken, not hoovered. Rubble had to be removed to allow better parking on drive. Broken window in outbuilding which could be of concern to parents. Upside was the view over Claife Heights, the bed was comfy and sheets clean, though the quilt and pillows had seen better days. Considering we were the first guests after lockdown we expected the cottage to be spick and span, if not smelling of paint after all we are paying a lot of money, the owner should have ensured all was up to standard. Reviewed by KeithJul 2019 "A nice lake district cottage." The cottage was in a very good location for the lakes and a good base from which to explore. Found having the underfloor heating kept the cottage warm, especially on the cold days. Really liked the cosy reading area and the lovely country views from the cottage. There was lots of information in the cottage for days out and local walks which was helpful. Any issues were delt with quickly, such as replacing lightbulbs in the cottage that we noticed had gone on arrival. Reviewed by LawrenceJun 2019 "Nice clean quiet cottage." Would have benefited from an information pack re petrol stations, doctors, walks ,car parking . Whilst available on internet it shows a little more thought for customer Reviewed by PaulMay 2019 "The cottage was lovely and in a very good position." The village is acceptional with lots of places to eat and drink, nice shops to browse. Lots of walking and cycling with good quality paths. A little away from the very busy areas which suited us, however not far should you want to visit Windermere and Ambleside. We went during cold weather and had a slight issue with the heating, however there is an open fire to keep you cosy. Reviewed by SharonApr 2019 "We would have stayed all summer if we could." The only improvement I would suggest is to have some basics in the cupboard - salt, pepper, bin liners etc. But it gave us an excuse to wander into the village in any case. Lovely cottage just as advertised. Reviewed by ChrisApr 2019 "Lovely cosy, but spacious cottage with open fire and great views across fields of lambs!" Wonderful location, can thoroughly recommend walks to Tarn Hows, Wray Castle and Grizedale Forest plus the village of Hawkshead is small (which we loved) but has some nice shops and places to eat and drink plus a little co-op that stays open till late. Reviewed by StevenDec 2018 "We had a really lovely stay at Kirrin Cottage, it has been beautifully renovated and the kitchen is a dream!" Location is excellent, the views are fabulous. We would stay here again without a second thought! Reviewed by SarahSep 2018 "On arrival, this cottage was presented as described on the website." It was delightfully and stylishly refurbished which was what had attracted me to it, as well as only being a 5 minute walk to the village, perfect. Plenty of useful facilities, plus they had provided essentials such as dish washer tabs and tea towels. However, the entrance to the kitchen from the back door had a very distinctive smell of damp which was also apparent in the kitchen and on the stairs. I am aware it is an old cottage, but it was quite off putting as the kitchen and toilet roll had that limp feel, plus our bath towels and tea towels were not drying prior to the next use. We also used the washer which had a dryer facility (no line or pegs to hang out) which proved a waste of time. The drying cycle did not work well, so I hung the clothes on the airer I’d found, but the clothes did not fully dry as the air was damp. Very disappointing as we visited in August and felt the use of the log fire was unnecessary. The cottage was very clean but they had missed some attention to detail, such as a couple of light bulbs missing, a broken roman blind in the kitchen and hadn’t provided any matches to light the fire if we’d wanted to. You cannot reach the toilet quietly as you have to negotiate the incredibly squeaky floorboards, some might say this adds to the charm, we just found them annoying. The location of the cottage was idyllic looking over the fields, it was really pretty. Had it have not been for the damp, I would definitely stay there again, but sadly for us, it outweighed the presentation of the place. Reviewed by CarolineAug 2018 "I was devastated to discover that we had lost our original booking due to non payment of the balance 6 weeks before our holiday." Unbeknown to me my husband had a new debit card so Sykes could not collect the balance. I was very angry as they didnt contact me to let me know just cancelled the booking after a week. They had both of my phone numbers, email and home address. Had I not checked my Sykes app I would not have known. I've had no apology from Sykes to date and this would definitely make me think about using them again. Reviewed by SusanJul 2018 "Kirrin cottage is in a brilliant location."
