The privacy, the peace, the view, the hot tub (with daily service), the stove and the fairy lights - a heavenly retreat. Great hosts who have created something truly special and memorable here - thanks to Sykes for enabling this five star experience

  • "The complimentary homemade shepherd’s pie in the fridge on arrival for our first evening meal was a lovely touch and tasted amazing!"

Additionally there was a complimentary bottle of sparkling wine. The robes and slippers came in very useful for the hot tub, which was beautiful to relax in after a long day walking! There are ample facilities to store and cook/prepare food so we had some breakfast at the hut each morning before heading out and then an evening meal on return. It was lovely to kick back and watch TV on the comfy bed after using the hot tub. The hut is isolated enough to enjoy the long views and sounds of the countryside. It’s approximately a 5-10 minute drive to get to the closest convenience store. I would definitely consider returning!

  • "We’ve been to Shepherds Hideaway twice this year, 3 times altogether, and really love it."

Set in a peaceful and tranquil environment, and accommodation is delightfully small and compact, but feels cosy and luxurious. And the added bonus? No wi-fi! So you truly can get away from it all. The hosts are very respectful of your privacy, but are very friendly and welcoming and are there if you need them. It’s an absolute pleasure to relax in the hot tub, and enjoy the wonderful scenery. We wouldn’t hesitate to go back again.

The accommodation was really private. Despite there being other accommodation options, it was silent. It was like we were the only two people in the world. The view is gorgeous as is the Shepherd's hut and the hot tub was lovely. It was everything we could hope for and more. We are already thinking of a date to return!

  • "Where do we start?"

From the moment we arrived we were blown away by how magical this place was and we knew we were going to have the most amazing time. We were greeted with the warmest welcome from Brenda and Dave who are such a lovely couple and were on hand for anything we needed throughout our stay. They had also kindly decorated our hut for my fiancé’s 30th Birthday! They provided us with a 2 day food hamper on request which was filled with everything you could possibly think of or need for the duration of your stay, including produce from local shops and suppliers, and not forgetting all of the delicious home cooked and baked items from Brenda herself. We would highly recommend ordering the food hamper, not only was it convenient but everything was such amazing quality and so tasty! The complimentary Shepherd’s pie (which was out of this world by the way) and bottle of Prosecco was such a lovely touch! To access The Shepherd’s Hideaway you go through a small gap in the hedges and down a winding path lit with festoon lights until you reach the spectacular Hut which was made by Dave himself! The hut is decorated so tastefully and is fully equipped with modern appliances, cutlery, crockery and glassware including a log burner, TV, and your own private hot tub with incredible views of the sunset over Scotland. The complimentary fluffy robes and slippers were also great! As soon as we arrived we already knew we wanted to come back, and our parents have booked off the back of our glowing recommendation! We cannot wait for our next stay, thank you!

  • "What an absolute gem!"

My wife and I booked at High Rigg for our "mini-moon" (the original having been cancelled due to Covid-19). We were taken a back by everything about the accommodation. To get to it you disappear through an entrance in a beech hedgerow and follow the fairy lights festooned through the trees to the lodge - totally enchanting and even more beautiful when the sun goes down. The accommodation was of the highest standard and we were greeted with a homemade shepherds pie and a vegetable lasagne plus a bottle of prosecco courtesy of our hosts. The bed was supremely comfy and the log burner made the lodge super cosy. Everything was spotlessly clean and our privacy was maintained throughout our stay. Life didn't seem as if it could to get much better as we sat in the luxurious hot tub sipping on the finest champagne and admiring the endless views towards Scotland. We were so thoroughly taken with this lodge that we had already booked to stay again in 2022 before we set off back to reality. I for one, cannot recommend High Rigg highly enough

Spoke to owners very quickly about parking the car and asked if everything was ok. Super clean, fresh bedding, robes and new slippers and towels provided. Had everything you need. Owners didn’t bother us at all, secluded and out of the way with fantastic views. The hot tub was unreal, and the Shepard’s pie was so amazing and yummy. I was worried when I first booked as it was an impulse booking but I had nothing to worry about it. Its cute, cosy, modern, stylish, with a very nice hot tub. The first night we had a view of a stunning sunset from our hot tub. Although, due to covid our hosts couldn't meet us on arrival. Brenda spotted us pulling up after our day out and stopped for a chat. What a truly lovely person she is! I cant pick one fault with this accommodation. The shepherd's hideaway is set back behind a walkway of bushes which adds a special romantic feel. I would 100% book again!

The outdoor hot tub was great and the fairy lights around the trees were a lovely touch. We had a great time using the bbq too. Brenda and David were excellent hosts and very responsive. Carlisle 10 miles.

The market town of Brampton is the ideal base for exploring Hadrian’s Wall. The town boasts a rich and colourful history going back to the Roman occupation, Border reivers from Scotland and the Jacobite uprisings, plus bonnie Prince Charlie established his headquarters in one of the old buildings in Brampton. In the centre of the town is Moot Hall, which was built in 1817, and now houses the Tourist Information Centre, and there is a large motte to the east of the town, which is 135 feet high and has the statue of the 7th Earl of Carlisle on it. A few miles outside Brampton is Talkin Tarn Country Park. It covers 120 acres of farmland and woodland, 65 of which make up the Tarn, a 10,000 year old glacial lake, fed by underwater springs. Two miles away is Gelt Woods, which is an ancient woodland and RSPB nature reserve and has the River Gelt running through it.
