The property

This traditional townhouse is set over three floors in a quiet courtyard in the centre of the popular market town of Kirkby Lonsdale.

Overlooking the churchyard, this upside down cottage has been fully renovated to provide a first-class holiday home of considerable merit.

Charming throughout, this delightful cottage is brimming with character with excellent use of contemporary styling and colour to produce a perfect blend of the old and the new.

The accommodation begins on the ground floor with a twin bedroom, a king-size double room and a modern shower room, all very stylish and providing flexible sleeping arrangements.

The first floor boasts the open plan living area with a superb corner suite and original beams which greet guests as they enter the room.

There is also a small dining area overlooking the churchyard and a bespoke, well-equipped kitchen which seamlessly combine to create a great space, ideal for families and friends to get together and enjoy themselves.

This room is enhanced by the natural light from the windows which creates an airy feel throughout.

The open plan staircase leads to a second floor nook on the landing which is small, but useful for reading a good book or for the children to escape the parents and play.

The main bedroom is spacious and has a superb super king-size bed, beautiful old ceiling beams, a lovely sitting area and a luxurious en-suite with a bath, ideal for a long soak after conquering the nearby Howgills.

Outside, a small courtyard leads to an arched ginnel which opens directly onto the high street, a vibrant place of old curiosity shops, award-winning butchers, bakers, excellent old pubs, fine dining restaurants, excellent cafés, sweet shops and much, much more in this ever popular old market town.

There is a lovely park, the famous Devils Bridge, Ruskins View and the River Lune meandering its way down the valley.

For a perfect day trip, head off to the Yorkshire Dales and explore the White Scar Caves at Ingleton, tackle the Three Peaks challenge or head west into the Lake District and visit the bustling towns of Bowness-on-Windermere and Ambleside, both situated on the shores of Lake Windermere.

This is a delightful base to explore this fantastic area, providing you want to leave the appeal of this first-class holiday cottage!

About the location

Kendal 9 miles.

An attractive market town, Kirkby Lonsdale is situated in the heart of the Lune Valley, midway between the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District. The town was mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, and holds a 13th century Market Charter. Nowadays, Thursday is market day, a perfect opportunity for visitors to explore the variety of distinctive independent shops in the town, or the many 17th and 18th century buildings which still stand. The town was also a finalist for the High Street of the Year Award in 2016. This part of the Lune Valley was a favourite haunt of the artist Turner, and was made famous by Ruskin – his "view" of the valley is still spectacular. The medieval Devil’s Bridge spans the river, and the quiet country lanes are ideal for exploring by car, bike, or even horse. There are three golf courses nearby, as well as tennis, riding, fishing and a variety of riverside and country walks, making the area an ideal location for a break, whatever time of year. When voting Kirkby Lonsdale as the ‘Best Place to Live in The North West’ in 2019, The Sunday Times commented it is “An unbeatable Lake District location, bags of community spirit and one of the cleanest high streets in the country’.
