  • "Really enjoyed our stay in the Shepherds Hut."

Our only comment would be the strength of the WiFi. Although it was nice to switch off, we did find the WiFi signal to be a slight inconvenience. Other than that we wouldn’t change a thing.

  • "The Shepherds hut is situated on a farm ten minutes drive from Windermere and Bowness on Windermere."

The hut is in a very peaceful paddock seperate from the other lodges with a nice chipped seating area out front and a grassed area to the side.We were visited on our arrival by a friendly corgi dog which turned out to be sheep dog that joined the farms three other border collies rounding up the farms sheep. The sheep pens are just over a traditional stone wall in front of the hut.We spent some time watching the farmers working the sheep with their dogs. The sheep were'nt left in the pens overnight so there was no noise. We had trips out to the local towns during our stay and the hut would make an excellent base for walking the fells and hills. The hut itself was spotlessly clean.A double bed at one end(be aware there is only one way in so if your on the inside and need to get up during the night you have to either climb over your partner or shift them. This was not a big problem).A central seating area with kitchen and at the other end toilet, walk in shower and basin.A TV and WiFi was nice for evening entertainment.A small cosy(due to underfloor heating)accomodation which we thouroughly enjoyed. Also on site was laundering facilities and an iron and ironing board. We would wholy recomend this holiday and would return in a heartbeat. What did you enjoy most about your stay? Peace and tranquility What one experience (e.g attraction, walk, day out) would you recommend for our future guests? This property is part of the Lake District Lodge Holidays collection.
From the moment you arrive in the Lake District there is a huge choice of activities and things to see as you take in Britain’s latest World Heritage Site – it’s the only National Park to be recognised for such status.

The property

High Borrans ‘Percy’ is a modern and delightful Shepherd’s Hut at High Borrans Farm, set in a peaceful rural location and yet only a 10 minute drive from the centre of Windermere with its shops, cafes and restaurants.

Local craftsmen at the Cumbrian Shepherd’s Hut Company constructed the hut.

It is beautifully designed to maximise the space, despite being compact, it has everything you need for a comfortable stay and you’ll be surprised at the full size shower room and king size bed.

The Shepherd’s Hut will sleep two guests – perfect for couples wanting a romantic getaway.

Double patio doors open out onto the gravelled seating area, where you’ll find outdoor furniture and a little storage shed.

You can barbecue out here too and the hut even has its own WIFI.

As soon as you leave the main road and head towards High Borrans you will sense the peace and tranquillity of the area.

Driving down the country lane you arrive at the traditional working farmyard and on through to the lodges.

High Borrans Farm is a 1000-acre hill farm, with a flock of some 1200 Swaledale ewes and around 25 beef suckler cows.

The land rises to 1300 feet on heather-clad fell tops and the farm is a wonderful environment for nature lovers.

The farmland is an Environmentally Sensitive Area and parts are also designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

On the nearby fells you are likely to glimpse red and roe deer, and closer to the farm, there are tawny and barn owls, and many varieties of bats living in the old barns.

For adventure lovers a number of popular mountain bike routes run through the farmyard itself.

This is a quiet farm with no onsite facilities other than laundry and e-bike hire.

What an ideal location for a peaceful, romantic hideaway !
