"Lovely property in a beautiful setting."
Had a lovely week and having the ferry to Bo’ness on the doorstep was great, with regular crossings.
The feathered visitors to the balcony were lovely to watch. The property lived up to our expectations and we would recommend it to anyone.
We shall return to Gilson, thank you Sykes and the property owners for providing such a beautiful place to relax in.

"Our second stay in Gilson (Oct 2019 & Oct 2021) and 3rd at these FBA properties (Frost Oct 2020)."
Asa with previous stays everting was as expected, clean, tidy, well appointed and with great relaxing views out over Windermere (Mitchel Wyke Bay). The weather did not stop us getting out and enjoying the local area, with great walks to be had direct from the property as well as easy access to the ferry. The property is very warm and cosy and ideal for us as a couple with our dog. We will definitely be back again next year to enjoy all that the Lake District and in particular the western shore of Windermere has to offer.

"Our 3rd stay at Gilson, a lovely cottage in a peaceful setting far enough away but within easy reach of the "madding crowd" of Bowness."
It must be said that on this occasion we were a little disappointed to find the cottage was looking a little "tired" and in need of some tlc, grouting & sealant in the bathe is in need of replacing, paintwork is in need of freshening up, only one flush button on the toilet cistern working, all of this work, I feel, could have been carried out during the lock down period of 2020, the noticeable lack of maintenance certainly doesn't warrant a 30% increase in cost for 2022, so for us, a change of location unfortunately

"The location was amazing, apartment was just perfect, we had a problem with the boiler but was fixed promptly and had a lovely hamper delivered to us for the inconvenience."
I would hugely recommend staying here, everything about this holiday was just amazing, from the views, to the location, to the stay. We will be back very soon!

"The overall cleanliness was poor the bowl in the sink and drainer was dirty, there were cobwebs on ceiling, under the bed was filthy, tile outside shower unit broken, sliding doors on wardrobe kept slipping off track."
In view of COVID and price paid this was less than acceptable.

"Lovely quality accommodation, set in a beautiful area of the lakes, close to the hustle and bustle of Bowness but far enough away to be peaceful and relaxing."
Enjoyed the company of the swans and ducks for breakfast.

"Impressed with everything, in particular the response when contacting your office re a poorly table, I think it was Dawn but it was repaired/replaced with minimum of fuss, it is the little things that matter."
Thank you.
PS can you get the keep clear sign outside re painted or make it a yellow box

"Accommodation was roomy, airy and well appointed."
Lovely views. The starter pack of tea, coffee, shampoo etc was a real bonus.
Highly recommend the hot chocolate and flapjack at the coffee hut by the ferry.
Interesting to watch the Windermere ferry live webcam feed.

"Property situated in an idyllic location at the side of the lake and also a minute’s walk to the Ferry."
We didn’t use the car hardly at all as we were close to Hill Top and had access to lots of wonderful walks. We would certainly return to the property.

"Loved staying at Gilson and area of Far Sawrey."
However we felt the tile flooring downstairs needed a good steam clean. There were a few old coffee stains that probably just washing didn’t get out. But we love the views from the cottage and the cottage itself. Would definitely go back.

"My girlfriend and I could not have been happier with our Sykes Cottage, Gilson."
It exceeded our expectations and was even nicer in person than in the websites pictures.
Nice additional touches were the handbook covering all parts of the property and its appliances; and the Lake District guidebook which gave a huge range of suggestions for things to do and places to see.
I would 10/10 recommend Sykes and this property for anyone looking to book.

"Considering what is going on at the moment, cleanliness is one of the things at the top of most people's lists regarding holidays."
Finding a used cotton bud on the bedroom windowsill did not give me confidence in the level of cleaning carried out at the property. Also the frying pan was completely burnt out and almost unusable. I emailed Sykes the day we arrived with these matters, didnt hear anything, just rang them today, 10 days later, 3 days back home. The person i spoke to was very helpful and said they had been in touch with the owners and hadnt heard back from them yet. I completely understand how busy Sykes must have been as lockdown started while we were away. I'm unable to think of an excuse for the owners however. Shame...the location is outstanding. We stayed in this cottage 3 years in a row and would definitely have gone back if things had been dealt with better. Up your game with the cleaning, maybe you're not giving your cleaners long enough to clean property. I do that job myself so i know how hard it is.

"Excellent property with all the comforts of home
The bed was very comfortable and the furniture was modern and up to date
No trouble with the shower or the door locks
Only problem - I was tempted to buy a pot of white paint to update the KEEP CLEAR sign on the road
Note: Blue Badge holders travel free on the ferry - saved us a lot of money!"

"The accommodation was lovely."
Didn't realise the stairs to the bedroom would be so steep so we were glad we left our elderly dog at home. Unfortunately there was a problem with the hot water whilst we were there and had to have cold showers on 3 occasions during the week. This did put a bit of a damper on our stay. We also had an issue with security whilst we were there, where the front door was open when we got back after a day out. We definitely locked it before we left. Even after a call to the office, this could not be explained and they didn't seem that concerned. Obviously, we were unsettled and had a sleepless night. Small hamper box was a nice touch.

"The view from the balcony was not what we expected - it was just a small inlet rather than Windermere lake."
It was also obstructed by trees.
Being so close to the ferry meant that access to the parking was difficult or impossible at busy times.

"It's location is fantastic, really beautiful and very convenient for the ferry."
It's a very comfortable cottage, and very spacious for a 2 person accommodation.
Kitchen is pretty well kitted out. My only negative point would be that the walls could do with freshening up but we are right at the end of the season so of course that's to be expected. We have rebooked again for next year, it will be our 3rd stay at that cottage.
