  • "We had a lovely time exploring the area, the walks were amazing with some stunning views."

Spacious property in a lovely setting, the property needs a some work doing on it, flaking ceiling in the upstairs bathroom, big cracks in the other rooms. As it was only myself staying with 2 dogs I shut off two of the bedroom and the lounge with the fireplace for my stay. The first night I was there I let the blinds down in the bedroom and when I pulled it up in the morning one piece of string broke, as I tied it back together I noticed the blinds were very mouldy, for the rest of the visit I left the blinds up as was worried they would break. The kitchen had everything you could possibly need but it would be nice to have a cupboard spare to put food in. As my dogs got muddy each time we had a 10-20miles walk it would of been handy to have a outside tap to wash them down or a bucket with no hole

  • "We booked for only 7 days, before setting off from home we arranged a Tesco delivery for food most of which require cooking."

On arrival the oven was not working, as it was late this was reported the following morning(Sunday). It was repaired on Thursday, most of our fresh food was off by then and thrown away. We came home on Friday a day early so realy had no cooking facilities all of our stay. A basket full of logs was provided but the log burner was broken and would allow carbon monoxide to build up in the room so it was unuseable. Apart from the obvious lack of maintainance the house was perfect as are its surroundings and we hope to be back in the lakes soon. PS, the gardener was very pleasant and helpful, top man your lucky to have him.

The cottage is very well equipped and has everything you need. The garden is secure for the dog. There are nice walks from the door. Tesco deliver to the address so shopping is easy. Just a shame you can’t book the weather too!

The cottage is clean and well presented with all you would need for a comfortable stay. Beautiful views, with local attractions and plenty of local eating establishments, all good value for money. Even our Labrador was catered for, dog blanket and chews for his stay.

  • "This is a great lodge in a very good location with amazing views all round."

Our stay was for a week of sunny and hot weather with not a drop of rain. We have stayed in about 30 holiday cottages over the past 10 years or so in the Lakes, Wales, Yorks Dales, Scotland, Cumbria etc. so have a lot of experience of what to expect. This property is not being maintained to the standards it should be. Each issue we had was not too big in itself but the list kept on growing to the point that whoever is carrying out the change-overs is not doing their job and either not reporting problems or someone is ignoring anything reported. - arrived at 4pm but the hall and kitchen floors were still wet - very little washing up liquid provided so we bought our own - we washed up in the sink to conserve energy - did not use dishwasher - no extension cable in the front lounge for the TV and DVD player - this had been reported already in the Visitor Book - only one bathmat between two showers - downstairs toilet door only locks from the inside and swings open the rest of the time - downstairs toilet mechanical sink plug broken so basin fills up and is difficult to extract the plug manually - top of the freezer compartment of fridge - door missing and heavy ice build up through lack of defrosting - hand washes left in kitchen and nothing in bathrooms - one not working so had to unscrew top to get soap out - no comfortable furniture in the garden making it hard to enjoy the weather - we had to carry heavy kitchen chairs outside and use cushions - still not comfortable - already noted in Visitors Book. - and last but not least - kitchen fire alarm hanging by wires from the ceiling, not sure if it was working or not - surely someone should have fixed this!! Then to our amazement we get a message on our last night asking to strip the beds and put with towels in the linen basket - sorry thought the cleaner should do that - never been asked that in any other cottage. Someone needs to do a thorough check on what could be a really place. - -

Everything we needed was provided, although we had to hunt for the microwave. We found the washing machine was also hidden away in the downstairs shower room, not that we used it. The Christmas tree was a very welcome touch to our peaceful and comfortable family get together which even the bad weather couldn't spoil. Thank you for our very happy Christmas holiday.

  • "This was our second visit to Eskholme Lodge and quite probably won't be our last."

The location is brilliant for dark skies, enjoyable walks on the doorstep and a little bit of peace and quiet. The cottage is well-equipped and spacious, with two living rooms, a lovely warm log fire and a large kitchen. The beds are large and very comfortable, and the bedrooms offer lovely views, particularly the front bedroom with panoramic views of the surrounding hills. Being so close to the golf course and the river Esk means that the cottage offers enjoyable walks and beautiful scenery. Contact-free check-in is straightforward, and the host is happy to let you enjoy your stay without disturbing you. We particularly love the Christmassy setup in December. Thanks for another lovely stay - we would highly recommend Eskholme Lodge.

Should be told that more wood will need to be purchased through them, as the brochure states more wood in outside cupboard and there wasn’t any. But thank Nikki for the extra wood brought around straight away. Should state there is a washing machine on site as this would encourage more people to stay. Overall lovely holiday home

  • "We had a lovely time at Eskholme Lodge with our dog."

We had mixed weather so it was nice to get out and about as well as spend a cosy day by the fire. The property was clean and had everything we needed. The area is fantastic for walks with very picturesque views. Nearby Silecroft Beach was a great find for a long walk or quick play in the sea. The garden was great for our dog and is a great size. He particularly enjoyed being able to run round and round the full perimeter of the house. We would certainly stay here again and have already recommended to our family.

  • "We really enjoyed our stay."

The cottage was wonderful, it felt very homely. So picturesque and lovely to see red squirrels and deer nearby. It was nice to visit a quieter part of the Lakes and loved all the places we visited. We did have a few suggestions that would improve it even more. A chair in the double bedrooms to put clothes on and some hooks in the down stairs bathroom to hang dressing gown/clothes while showering. We noticed the water pressure for the shower upstairs was quite weak so we all just showered in the downstairs bathroom. Otherwise we'll equipped. We hope to return one day.

  • "Location was found despite not owning a sat nav in the car."

It would be better if you provided a better way of directing clients to their chosen accommodation. Not everyone has sat nav and do not use mobiles which is the case with ourselves. The lodge was reasonably clean as long as we didn’t mind cobwebs. It was fairly comfortable too and well-equipped. However the Wi-Fi passcode given in the lodge brochure was wrong and we had to chase the owner to provide the correct one, for which they apologised. The dishwasher was broken and the owner expected an engineer during the week but no sign of him/her all week. We therefore had no mobile connection(locality issue), no Wi-Fi and subsequently no television for first part of holiday. We shall not return to Eskholme Lodge and this experience colours our thinking on using Sykes again.

  • "A well presented, cosy and well placed cottage."

We were a group of 4 adults, 1 toddler and 2 dogs and the cottage provided lots of space for us all to play and relax. Upstairs the bedrooms are light and spacious- however there are only blinds at the windows so if you like a really dark room you may need to be creative with arranging them. Downstairs the kitchen is well stocked - you have to look in cupboards as some items are creatively stored. The 2 living rooms are great if you want to have quiet areas. Plenty of attractions nearby and would definitely recommend Muncaster Castle, the beach at Seascale and Wast water. Further afield Coniston, Keswick and Windermere offer full days out. Definitely recommend this cottage as a base for a family getaway

Fabulous walks from the doorstep on through to Eskdale and Ravenglass. Near to coast and more mountainous scenery. It's a spacious property and when you drive up to it on arrival I promise you won't be disappointed. Secure garden for dogs and parking off road and room for 2 cars. About the location

ESKDALE GREEN

Coniston 10 miles.

The small village of Eskdale Green sits amongst beautiful Lakeland countryside and consists of a scattering of cottages, some farm dwellings and a number of outstanding traditional English pubs serving good food. An area relatively unknown to many Lakeland visitors, this great location boasts a skyline dominated by the towering peaks of Scafell - England's highest peak, as well as Great Gable, Hard Knott, Harter Fell and Muncaster Fell, whilst the nearby stunning valleys of Eskdale, Wasdale, Ennerdale and Dunnerdale provide breathtaking and ever-changing scenery to be enjoyed throughout the year. The valley is notable as being one of few major valleys in the Lake District not to have its own lake, although several tarns are perched above the valley sides. Local attractions include Muncaster Castle, the World Owl Centre and the Ravenglass to Eskdale miniature railway, one of the most beautiful train journeys imaginable. With both beautiful Wastwater - the deepest lake in the country and St Olaf's - the smallest church, amongst the many well known landmarks in this awe inspiring and beautiful area also within easy reach, this stunning location will have visitors returning time and time again.
