“There were a couple of issues that occured but the owner very quickly sorted them out.”
“Relaxing and comfortable holiday the barge exceeded all expectations perfect”
“A very quiet and peaceful setting.”
Local wildlife was not only a pleasant sight, but entertaining also. Our hosts Nigel and Karen simply 1st class. Nothing at all not to like.
“What's not to like about the barge beautiful interior very comfortable king size bed.”
The owners are always at hand for help or advice. The area itself has so many beautiful little villages to visit, lots of inns within a short drive serving good pub food. You may like to take a torch with you when walking on and off the barge in the evening.A lovely change from staying in a cottage.
“The accommodation was immaculately presented with all the necessary facilities provided for a relaxing week.”
The barge is currently moored in a well maintained quiet marina. The experience of being on a barge is different to a conventional holiday cottage affording a variety of experiences such as a family of swans who would visit daily and who became accustomed to being fed from the duck hatch. Some consideration does need to made to getting on and off the barge including walking along a well maintained walkway the length of the barge to the stern and being able to step up and down to board the accommodation as well as being able to descend three steps. Additionally their is adequate water on board for about 3 to 4 days but the owners are near by and make arrangements to top up the tank mid week. If you arrive by car parking is about 200 meters away although you can drive to the barge to unload and load your possessions at the beginning and end of your visit though the access road can be a little narrow if other vehicles are present at the time. My wife and I found this to be a wonderful retreat with high quality accommodation. The owners were very helpful and friendly throughout our stay and we would highly recommend the area the barge is moored as an opportunity to visit Barnoldswick and the surrounding area. If you are after something a little different then this could be just for you.
“Met by the barges owners Nigel and Karen , lovely people , nothings too much trouble , everybody along canal site very friendly , would have no hesitation recommending the barge for a different type of holiday we thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience .”
. Thank you .
“We booked the canal barge as something a bit different as far as accommodation goes, and were not dissapointed.”
..the barge is brand new & therefore spotlessly clean and fully equipped. It was surprisingly spacious with a full size shower & great size bedroom with an exceptionally comfortable bed! Because of the glorious weather we were able to make full use of the outside sitting area on deck & simply watch the world go by...the marina is such a quiet, peaceful spot with just the odd canal boat floating by & occasional walkers using the tow path; in addition the marina has a real 'community feel' & the other boat owners were very welcoming & friendly, giving us top tips on local walks, places to visit & importantly which were the best pubs & restaurants! Barnoldswick is a really great little place...unspoilt, friendly & with a great selection of independant shops, cafés & pubs & all just a short walk from the marina. Karen & Nigel, the owners of the barge, were great hosts & were available & easily contactable for anything we could have needed...Nigel even loaned us his OS map & they also offered to loan us their bikes! We hadn't brought ours & for any future guests there are some terrific bike routes following the canal tow paths in this area. The canal barge was a really great base & we would definitely recommend it as somewhere special to chill out & relax.
“The Canal Barge was very clean, the hosts were excellent going beyond expectations to make sure we were comfy.”
The area is very quiet with pubs for food within easy reach. The lack of TV on the boat is a personnel opinion, it didn't matter to us, however it might be a point to raise before people book. If the locals tell you somewhere is a 15 minute walk i suggest you double it. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would re-book without hesitation
