  • "The access to the cottage - half a mile of very narrow lane without verges or passing places - could have been a real problem."

    We relied on Farfield Mill's carpark but they could have been awkward about this. Could the owners make an arrangement with the Mill to permit parking in the Mill's carpark for people renting the cottage? Central heating hardly ever came on. If we set the thermostat to 19deg it went back to 15 or 16 deg after a short while. We had to change the battery in the wall control box in the sitting room but even then the heating was still erratic. This would have been a problem if the weather had been cold or wet and we needed to dry walking gear. Might be helpful to owners to provide a tray for muddy boots. The lack of a freezer compartment in the fridge was an inconvenience (ice packs for cool boxes etc). However, we found it a very pleasant cottage, comfortable, idyllically situated, and we had a thoroughly enjoyable holiday there.

  • "Really good cottage and good location for the outdoors."

    Owners very contactable if there were any problems. We managed to leave our child's dressing gown which was posted back to us. Great service and stay, highly recommend.

    Farfield mill was a nice place to spend some time with the workers who again were friendly and happy to show off their work and invited me to bring my wife for a visit next time.

  • "We had a very enjoyable holiday at 2 Farfield Row, it is a lovely cottage set in a beautiful location."

    The only problem with the cottage is it's location at the end of a very narrow and long winding lane without a single passing place, (so narrow that it was necessary to pull wing mirrors in and impossible for pedestrians to pass the car in the lane). As there are five cottages at the end of the lane and a considerable number of people coming and going, the chances of two cars meeting in the lane is considerable, as confirmed by a neighbour. It is sometimes not possible to turn the car straight away if one of the neighbours is parked in the turning area. I think that a fuller account of this situation should be made in the description of the cottage to make people aware. I did not discover the full extent of the difficulties until after booking and talking to one of the owners on the phone to ask about a supermarket delivery (impossible). If I had known just HOW narrow and long the lane is I would not have booked. This should be made clearer in the cottage description. The lane caused my other half considerable anxiety, to the extent that we considered travelling home the day after arrival. We decided to stay, as we needed the holiday very badly and got around it by parking in the nearby mill car park when possible, which has a different access road, and walking to the cottage. Despite the access problems it is a very clean, comfortable and pretty cottage. We particularly enjoyed lighting the log burning stove in the evenings. So many 'pros', but unfortunately one big 'con' and so we will not be booking again. The view from the cottage is magnificent. On the first morning a red squirrel walked past the door and the nearby oaks were covered in acorns. Beautiful.

  • "This was a lovely cottage, clean and comfortable."

    The rooms were nicely decorated and there was all the basics one needs for a home from home. The one drawback was the entrance to the row itself. Although the listing says the lane to the cottage is narrow and only fits one vehicle, the road twists and turns a lot and there are no passing places. This means that on two occasions, once when I was leaving and once when I was returning, I was stuck by an oncoming vehicle. Due to the land being JUST wide enough for one vehicle it meant that one of us had to reverse. I tried (valiantly) to revers but there are no road markings or kerbs to judge the line of the reversal. Therefore the other car reversed for me, since both persons live in two of the other cottages and so I was able to move forward and get out of the way. Later on we asked at the Fairfield Mill if we could park there overnight and walk the short way to the cottage. This was a much better option as I was becoming anxious about the drive back and for along the lane. Despite this we had a lovely holiday and due to Covid-19 considerations brought our own towels and games as suggested.

  • "We spent a week during October 2019 half term, the cottage is fantastic, has everything that you need and more, very nicely decorated, clean and secluded; neightbours are friendly, we had lots of nice walks, the village has all the amnieties and plenty of book shops, my daughter discovered the old style sweeties shop."

    It was cold outside and the cottage heats up well, we were really lucky with thte weather and only had two days of rain, the Mill is two minutes away and have really nice cakes and soups; the museum is superb. We drove to the lake district one day and all the other days we enjoyed around the area, lots of walks and falls. The hosts were really nice and thoughtfull, they were on holiday abroad at the time but didn't stop them responding very quickly to our messages. Thanks for everything. We will definetly go back, my 10 years old daughter wants to go and live there as she thinks is better then London (!!!!)

  • "The cottage was brilliant , from opening the door it was amazing ."

    Very welcoming , lovely decorated and furnished . We loved the log burner to . We loved the treats the owners left us , bread milk lovely bottle of wine and chocolates, and a lovely bunch of fresh flowers .

  • "The cottage was a wonderful place to relax in."

    The kitchen was well equipped and the bed (and linen) very comfortable indeed. The cottage had many thoughtful touches (i.e. fresh flowers) and upon arrival we were welcomed with an assortment of 'goodies' that made us feel like home right from the start. The location was beautiful and gave us easy access to many wonderful hikes in the Dales. We couldn't have asked for more and highly recommend this place to others.

The property

Resting at the foot of the Howgill Fells, this beautiful cottage is nestled on the outskirts of Sedbergh, in Cumbria.

Inside the property has been renovated to provide a lovely base for small families and friends looking to escape to the countryside.

Entering the property, you will be greeted to an open-plan sitting room with two sofas to curl up with your loved ones and enjoy some quality family time together of an evening, with the warming woodburning stove to keep you warm and toasty.

There is a pull-out dining table where you can enjoy your lovingly prepared meals, cooked to perfection in the compact, but well-equipped kitchen resting to the rear.

The first-floor provides a king-size bedroom, with plenty of furniture for ample storage space, whilst the second-floor has a twin bedroom.

Sedbergh (pronounced Sed-Ber), set at the foot of the dramatic and wild Howgill Fells, is an ancient market town in northern Dentdale. Sedbergh is situated just inside the Yorkshire Dales National Park and is only 12 miles from the Lake District National Park. The town, with its narrow streets, little shops, traditional pubs, famous school dating back to 1525 and its 12th century church, has an olde worlde atmosphere. Leading from Sedbergh is Dentdale, the jewel of the Yorkshire Dales with its rolling hills and dry stone walls, stretching 14 miles from the windswept moors below Whernside to the confluence of the Rivers Dee and Rawthey. At the centre of the dale is Dent, with its cobbled streets, which has existed since Norman times and nearby Dent railway station is on the renowned Settle-Carlisle railway line. There are three golf courses nearby, as well as tennis, riding, and fishing, and the area is a paradise for walkers, ramblers, runners and cyclists. This, together with the tranquillity of the surrounding valleys, the two National Parks and it being England's book town, makes an ideal year-round holiday destination.
