  • "We stayed at Oakdene to celebrate my father's 80th birthday and could not have picked a better location or property to celebrate such a milestone!"

The wonderful property has been beautifully renovated and comfortably housed the 22 guests staying there. It is difficult to find a house that can easily accommodate such a large group, especially in the entertaining areas, but this house has a fabulously equipped kitchen with two large dining tables, adjacent to each other, to allow us all to get together and celebrate in one place. I will certainly return and recommend to all!

  • "We have been holidaying together as a large walking group for about 15 years and we were all agreed that this was our best property yet."

It was comfortable, clean and modern. We don't visit the same place two years in a row but we've agreed there will be a future visit to this one, more likely sooner rather than later. As organiser, I will find it hard to match in the future. Great access to walks from the front door and only a mile or so's walk to the village, with a choice of pubs and restaurants. So great location and great property.

Everything you could ever need is included. The beds are very comfortable, loads of comfy sofas and the snooker table was a very definite hit. Only a couple of things needed we thought a short snooker cue so you don’t hit the wall and a couple of chairs to wait your turn.....overall fantastic. We hope to be back next year. Thank you.

  • "The property was fantastic, and still looks & feels brand new after the extensive upgrade."

Very spacious - we had 16 max and that was a really comfortable number. Only the Cinema Room was at capacity with 16. We had a couple of teething problems with oven, heating & water, but Chris & Sally resolved very quickly and proved to be great hosts throughout the week. Only other issues - we were disappointed that we couldn't show DVDs or connect laptop by cable in the Cinema Room, but eventually found workarounds. Also the entrance gateway is a bit tricky to find & to exit from, but these were trivial items compared with all the plus points - in every other respect Oakdene was absolutely perfect. Many thanks !!

About the location

SEDBERGH

Kendal 12 miles; Hawes 15 miles.

Sedbergh (pronounced Sed-Ber), set at the foot of the dramatic and wild Howgill Fells, is an ancient market town in northern Dentdale. Sedbergh is situated just inside the Yorkshire Dales National Park and is only 12 miles from the Lake District National Park. The town, with its narrow streets, little shops, traditional pubs, famous school dating back to 1525 and its 12th century church, has an olde worlde atmosphere. Leading from Sedbergh is Dentdale, the jewel of the Yorkshire Dales with its rolling hills and dry stone walls, stretching 14 miles from the windswept moors below Whernside to the confluence of the Rivers Dee and Rawthey. At the centre of the dale is Dent, with its cobbled streets, which has existed since Norman times and nearby Dent railway station is on the renowned Settle-Carlisle railway line. There are three golf courses nearby, as well as tennis, riding, and fishing, and the area is a paradise for walkers, ramblers, runners and cyclists. This, together with the tranquillity of the surrounding valleys, the two National Parks and it being England's book town, makes an ideal year-round holiday destination.
