  • "Spout Cottage is in a beautiful location with far reaching views of the countryside and Howgills."

The cottage is very well equipped and cosy. The additional pillows and fleecy blankets were a welcome addition. The lane heading to the cottage is single track but there are passing places and is fine if you drive carefully. There are some lovely walks from the cottage - we had a wander down to Farfield Mill one day and then over to Garsdale and Baugh Fell another day. There are also plenty of walks from Sedbergh too, the Sedbergh - Dent circular walk was a favourite of ours. There’s a well positioned bench in the garden which is perfect to catch the sunset and then the night skies. I would certainly recommend the cottage and the owner was very helpful and informative when contacted regarding key collection.

  • "Lovely cottage and in the perfect rural setting."

Extremely quiet with bursts of lovely birdsong and the occasional bleating of lambs. Amazing views from all windows, my favourite was the small one in the lounge which has ivy around it. Sitting there after a sightseeing excursion was extremely tranquil. The garden is lovely and we were lucky with some sunny days to spend two afternoons in it. The newer garden bench is deceivingly comfortable! The kitchen is full of light from the large windows and so nice to cook and eat in there. The cottage was clean, comfortable and warm. We didn’t need to use the log burner at all. Lovely little welcome pack of biscuits and wine when we arrived. There was only a teaspoonful of sugar in the sugar canister when we arrived but there is a large local Spar just out of Sedbergh. The tumble dryer is in the bike store outside, the dryer door needs a good pull to open but persevere as it will open! The double bed … so super comfortable! Cannot fault the cottage at all and would highly recommend it! Thank you to the owners for sharing such a delight! Note to Sykes: the TV is a Smart TV and there is no longer a DVD player at the cottage as per listing.

The cottage was well equipped. There is only a small freezer compartment but with lots of local shops, restaurants and pubs this isn't a problem. The views from the cottage are fabulous. Information regarding rubbish and recycling was a bit sketchy but there are recycle point in the sedbergh car parks. • "This 'luxury cottage' was tired, grubby & very disappointing."

Arrived to find the leather sofa contaminated with crumbs & a nail clipping. Carpet was dirty, long-hair rug covered in hairs & dross. Dust, dirt & detritus under furniture hadn't been cleaned in days if not weeks. Food waste on kitchen floor & under hob, something like scrambled egg stuck to chair. We could go on. We took photos (stopped at 14). Didn't want to stay but no choice. Left at first light, 200 miles home - that says it all. Owner advises to use water filter due to spring water supply. We were not confident it was fit for purpose. Suggest future customers bring their own filter. The idea the cottage had been 'deep-cleaned' for Covid is risible. Tried to raise these issues with owner, no reply to texts or emails. We chose this cottage due to previous reviews. What went wrong?

Thank you for your feedback and I am sorry to hear of the issues that you claim to have experienced. The concerns mentioned do come as a surprise as prior to your arrival I was confident that our long-standing cleaner ensured the property was cleaned up to our usual high standard. On the evening of your arrival, you emailed me some concerns to which I responded quickly in offering you an immediate inspection of the property and the correction of any issues found, an offer which you have not taken up. When I arrived at the cottage shortly after your departure, I was shocked to find that, not only had you been smoking in the cottage, but there was ash left over the windowsill and window frame, burn marks, cigarette butts and melted plastic in the window frame, and several discarded cigarette butts outside next to our oil feed and boiler which was a clear fire hazard. This is completely unacceptable; I remind you the cottage is a non-smoking property. I can only assume this is why you refused an inspection by our cleaner while you were there. The reason I have not replied to your emails and text after your departure, is because we have passed on this matter to Sykes Cottages agency. With regards to the water supply, our water comes from a 90-metre-deep private bore hole and is filtered, and UV sterilised prior to entry into the house. It satisfies all necessary checks carried out by South Lakeland Council authority. It is wholesome and perfectly safe to drink from the tap. I only ask guests to use a Britta filter for water going into the kettle to remove hardness and help stop the kettle furring up, as per cottage information provided. I pride myself on the standard and quality my cottage boasts and believe other past and recent reviews support this. Property Owner

However, if you don't fancy driving you can depart from the cottage and be on some fantastic walk immediately. Sedbergh itself had some lovely restaurants and cafes. Lovingly renovated, this charming Sedbergh cottage offers quality self-catering accommodation, with a wonderful mixture of modern furnishings, with the original features maintaining the character and charm of a bygone age.

The ground floor comprises a warm and cosy sitting room with a woodburner set in a feature stone fireplace, a spacious kitchen with dining area and picture window looking out across the lovely garden to the nearby fells, underfloor heating in the kitchen and a beautiful beamed ceiling.

The first floor of your Cumbria cottage features a delightful bathroom, a master bedroom with king-size bed and an equally spacious twin bedroom, to ensure that guests have a comfortable stay at this first class holiday cottage.

The town is full of character from its cobbled streets to its historic houses, some of which show the hallmarks of the old knitting and woollen trades in the town.

Both Kendal and Kirkby Lonsdale are a 20-minute car journey away, and the cottage is perfectly located on the doorstep of both the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District.

There are many local places of interest to visit including Fairfield Mill, the picturesque village of Dent and the renowned Ingleton Waterfalls.

About the location

SEDBERGH

Kendal 11.5 miles; Kirkby Lonsdale 11.8 miles, Hawes 15.8 miles.

Sedbergh (pronounced Sed-Ber), set at the foot of the dramatic and wild Howgill Fells, is an ancient market town in northern Dentdale. Sedbergh is situated just inside the Yorkshire Dales National Park and is only 12 miles from the Lake District National Park. The town, with its narrow streets, little shops, traditional pubs, famous school dating back to 1525 and its 12th century church, has an olde worlde atmosphere. Leading from Sedbergh is Dentdale, the jewel of the Yorkshire Dales with its rolling hills and dry stone walls, stretching 14 miles from the windswept moors below Whernside to the confluence of the Rivers Dee and Rawthey. At the centre of the dale is Dent, with its cobbled streets, which has existed since Norman times and nearby Dent railway station is on the renowned Settle-Carlisle railway line. There are three golf courses nearby, as well as tennis, riding, and fishing, and the area is a paradise for walkers, ramblers, runners and cyclists. This, together with the tranquillity of the surrounding valleys, the two National Parks and it being England's book town, makes an ideal year-round holiday destination.
