  • "Overall a good place to stay but a couple of things need addressed."

Cooker hood lights didn't work and filters greasy to the touch, bathroom extractor fan doesnt work, shaver light bulb doesnt work, fridge is much too small and has a large freezer which for short stays isn't needed. The bed was very comfortable and ultra clean. The armchairs in the living room are exceptional and of super quality.

  • "We had a wonderful holiday at Meadow's Edge, cottage was as described, comfortable and clean, the garden wasn't enclosed but after so many beautiful walks from the door our dog didn't have the energy for garden zoomies!"

Met by the very friendly owner who gave us plenty of ideas for walks and visits. We saw several waterfalls and were amazed by the sheer peace, tranquillity and beauty of our surroundings. So many birds, some we had never seen before. Watching the sheep and cows coming and going ....Will be back next year.

It is comfortable, well equipped and has the most amazing views. The location of the property is superb for walking, there are wonderful waterfalls to walk to from the property, or you can drive and park closer for that particular walk. You can hill walk, the views are incredible. What a superb place to holiday! The lodge owner gave us the warmest of welcomes and was very lovely to chat with. We would definitely stay here again.

  • "We love this property, this was our third visit."

The surrounding area suits our needs. Shame about the local pub closure. Only two niggles about the property - empty condiments on the table and could do with a decent non-stick frying pan! However what is putting us off another visit is the massive hike in price from our last visit in 2016. £342 then to £731 this year, a budget we cannot afford.

Many thanks for your feedback, and it is a shame that you didn't mention the frying pan during your stay as we would have happily changed it for you as we want all of our guests to have a great holiday. With regards to the price , I can see that you previously stayed in September 2016 . I am sure that you will appreciate that September is a cheaper booking period than the August peak booking period, when you stayed the second time. We do hope that you will visit us again in the future. Property Owner

The host was at the cottage to meet us as arranged and everything was clean and in order The locals were extremely friendly and waved everytime they saw us and spoke when passing which makes all the difference when you are visiting a new area We knew the location was in a Hamlet down a dead end and the views were superb out of every window. Noise was almost non-existent - apart from the odd car or quad going past, we only ever heard the wildlife Sights such as Low and High Force were in walking distance and more were just a short drive away The only thing we were slightly let down by was the fact that the local pub, which is advertised in the listing, was shut but it wasn't a show stopper I'd highly recommend Meadows Edge to anyone and we will be back in the future Thanks

The cottage is very cosy and the views from every window are incredible. We were disappointed that the pub is no longer open and the advert did indicate that it was. But otherwise there was great walking and fantastic tranquility and the surrounding countryside is wonderful. Mrs Scott was very welcoming and we did find good facilities in Middleton - down the road. We hope to return at some stage and would recommend this cottage for a peaceful getaway.

  • "What a perfect spot this is for exploring Teesdale!"

The cottage is very comfortable, cosy, with gorgeous views down and across the valley. We were welcomed by the owner when we collected the keys. The cottage itself is well-equipped, although it’s important to take a few additional items as well (we were glad we took extra towels, which the listing states are needed, plus extra toilet rolls and a hair-dryer). The cottage has incredibly effective heating! It was November and we had to turn it all the way down! You will be cosy. We enjoyed several walks along the Pennine Way—High Force and Summer Force were highlights—and over the moors. It’s a beautiful area, and this cottage is an ideal base from which to explore.

Cottage was very clean, apart from quite a few cobwebs in corners and on the stairs carpet. I understand your in the country and can get cobwebs, but on the stair carpet it was pretty bad. Also i would like to point out the bathroom is looking a bit tired. the sealant round the bath and toilet is looking quite bad, could do with freshening up. Other than that it is clean and a pleasant stay, may i also just say a sofa would be nicer in the cottage. Would come back again.

There have been some changes since our previous visit, enlarged sitting area, larger TV, new cooker and there are lovely new carpets - so it’s better than the photos on the website. We love the views from the cottage and the great walks right from the door, even In the snow that we had this year. The friendly owner ensured the cottage was warm on our arrival but we didn’t see her until we left as we had no problems. Great food & drink at The Strathmore Arms (5 mins walk), means little cooking was needed at the cottage.

There is also a pub in the village but the nearest shop is 3 miles away, so worth taking whatever supplies you need. The house is extremely well situated for long and short walks and very comfortable and cosy (the heating was efficient!). It is a beautiful building and village and all the necessary amenities are provided in the cottage (apart from towels, but saw this on a previous review and brought our own). Big kitchen and amazing views from the table while having breakfast over the fields and of sheep and cows grazing. The owner kindly let us bring two small dogs, so worth asking if you are in the same situation. We had a relaxing and very enjoyable time and hope to return soon.

  • "Holwick is the perfect location if you want to enjoy stunning countryside and a real break from town or city life."

With long or short walks easily accessible directly from the cottage, it’s a perfect place for people who enjoy being outside. The cottage has wonderful views from the living area. We loved watching the changing weather over the dales and the cows, sheep, rabbits and pheasants in the fields just outside. The owner is very helpful, when we couldn’t work out how to light the oven, we rang her and she arrived within 10 mins. The local pub is very friendly and has a great selection of beers, ciders, good food and a beautiful garden. I agree with previous reviews that the living area decor at the cottage could do with updating and that the small garden would be a very pleasant place to sit and enjoy the stunning views but is in need of some TLC. Overall we had a lovely week and would recommend a visit.

Plenty of places to go for long walks and to admire the scenery . Our holiday was ruined after a road traffic collision (not my fault) with a swedish motorcyclist who was riding on the wrong side of the road left us with no car for half of the week . Even though we have courtesy car cover in our insurance policy the courtesy car provider does not allow dogs in their cars .So no replacement car until we got home . Had £500 cover in the policy to get ourselves home but again couldnt hire a car because of their no dogs in car policy . The only taxi firm near to where we were staying was the same - no dogs . Eventually found a taxi firm from near to where we live who would transport us home with the dog which nearly cost as much as we paid for the cottage .

  • "This holiday cottage is not exactly as described by Sykes Cottages."

I do not know if this is down to Sykes or the owner. The cottage is in need of updating and refurbishing. The fixtures and fittings are worn and some are broken ie the blinds and curtain retainers. I had to repair the toilet seat just to use it. The site describes the cottage as having a garden and patio seating area. The garden is unkempt and there is no patio - the whole garden is ten feet square. The parking is ok but shared with a neighbour so you must park tight to your side. The parking area and path to the cottage is done in large cobble stones which are difficult underfoot. If you are elderly or not particularly fleet of foot you may find this a problem. We are not elderly but my wife managed to fall within the first ten minutes. The steps up to the cottage are steep for access and luggage loading. You can enter and exit via the bathroom door. The stairs in the cottage are steep and poorly lit - not aided by a dark coloured carpet. If you have a dog its easy for it to fall down the stairs. The cottage is upside down so you get good views from the upstairs windows. Please be aware that although the cottage is secluded the lane outside is used for farm traffic and whilst we were there it seemed the speed limit was non existent with vehicles flashing by. The caveat is to keep your dog on a lead because if it strays from the area around the cottage it may well succumb to a LandRover and trailer passing at forty miles an our. The local area is very nice and we spent our time exploring the lovely scenery and the Lake District. The cottage is ok if you are just needing a place to base yourself but do not expect luxury fixtures and fittings. The sofa in the lounge area is poor and the tv is tiny (we had to fit new batteries to fix the remote). Overall would we stay here again? - that would have to be a no.
