Lovely big bed and lots of bedroom furniture. Struggled with the lounge heater but it wasnt a problem . Kitchen had everything and all utensils were spotless. Great coal/wood burner

  • "We loved being at Harber Scar."

Homemade flapjack and a bottle was waiting for us on arrival in this immaculate cottage. Everything was straightforward and easy; no long lists of dos and don'ts. The kitchen/ dining area was cosy but easily manageable for 4 adults and 2 dogs. The lounge is well presented and large. We had some occasional fires but the storage heaters kept the place toasty warm. There were people in one of the adjacent cottages but we didn't hear a peep. Everyone slept well so the beds get the thumbs up. Horton in Ribblesdale is perfect for walking the Dales (we managed all 3 peaks, but on separate days) and Settle is close enough for buying food and a pub meal. Parking was fine. We had one car outside the cottage and the other a short walk over the bridge. The Crown pub opposite is undergoing some changes and is for sale (a snip if you are in the market!) and we just popped in for a drink or two. The Station Inn at Ribblehead was a great find - expensive, but superb beer and the loaded fries were great value and very tasty. We definitely recommend this cottage without reservation.

  • "A lovely cosy cottage in a beautiful location."

The cottage was comfortable, warm and brilliant (wood burner on when we arrived) and had everything you need for a fabulous stay in the beautiful Yorkshire Dale's. Lots of amazing places all within easy reach. The 3 peaks obviously, Pen Y Gent from the doorstep. Even the lane immediately right from the doorstep is lovely. Hawes 30 to 40 min drive away, Malham cove 20 mins or so. The Ingleton waterfalls 20 mins. Everywhere you drive, walk, look is beautiful....a very special place. Local shops in Settle not too far (as no food shops within Horton) but there was tasty flap Jack's, milk and prosseco on arrival! We didn't go in pub opposite, following looking at the reviews on trip advisor. : ) But my 8 year old neice found them hilarious. ("Only locals allowed in one area!") We didn't mind as had such a lovely cottage and plenty of lovely places to go. No signal for phones in cottage, but WiFi works fine. However quite like going to places with no phone signal! Highly reccomend this cottage. Look forward to coming back and finding more beautiful places to go. Thank you

Thank you for your feedback, it was lovely to welcome you back to Harber Scar. We are pleased to hear you found the cottage comfortable and warm on arrival and the wood burner does make the cottage cosy at this time of year. Property Owner

We particularly appreciated that the multi fuel burner was already on when we arrived, on what turned out to be a cold clear and frosty night. It was like getting a big hug when we walked in. The cottage was clean, cosy and comfortable and we felt quite at home. The kitchen was well equipped, fuel for the fire was provided and the owner left homemade flapjacks and wine which was very thoughtful. We were there for a ling weekend but could have happily stayed longer.

Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased to hear you had a lovely stay at Harber Scar and appreciated the greeting from the multi fuel stove on arrival. Real fires do take some beating once the weather takes a turn for winter. The most delicious flapjacks were on the kitchen worktop on our arrival and a bottle of fresh milk and Prosecco in the fridge. (Thank you) The Woodburner was most welcome also after our wet days in the beautiful dales. A very lovely break, in a beautiful old cottage surrounded by beautiful landscapes. Thank you.

The cottage is cosy, beds were really comfortable and we enjoyed our breakfast outside in the shared garden at the back. We were welcomed with lovely flapjacks and some biscuits for the dogs which were very much appreciated. Harber Scar is in the perfect location for doing 1,2 or all 3 of the Yorkshire Peaks. It is also just a short walk to the train station. Settle is a short drive away for a selection of shops. There are 2 pubs in the village which we didn't make it to, as the comfy sofas and log burner were much more appealing after our long walk! We would definitely recommend.

Loved the fire in the lounge at night, very cosy and relaxing. Very comfy beds too! A shame about the grumpy pub owner at The Crown who was very unwelcoming- the sooner a new owner is found, the better, as it’s wonderful to have a pub so close! It would be such an asset to the cottage. We had to sit out in the dark and cold with our drinks (as he wouldn’t allow us in with a dog). Thank you for a very pleasant stay! xx

  • "Great cottage, very well equipped."

The cottage is very dog friendly and was ideal for taking my two Setters out early morning and last thing. I was a bit wary of the pub’s proximity and also tales of landlords unfriendliness but this proved unwarranted. Yes the front of the pub was busy over the weekend but only for a couple of hours as walkers came back from the hills for a pint or two. The pub landlord I found pleasant and parking my car was not an issue, but with all the great walks surrounding the cottage it stayed parked all week in front of the cottage . How refreshing to arrive at a cottage that didn’t make me feel I had to spend my last day cleaning it from top to bottom, after reading the note that said “It’s your holiday, but there are cleaning things available if you want them” I hope I left it in a reasonable condition! Thank you to Helen for her friendly help .

Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay at Harber Scar and found it ideally placed for taking the dogs out directly from the door first thing in the morning and at night, the cottage is situated on the Pennine Way, with the footpath passing through the car park. I booked it on the last minute and the price was very competitive. Its in a great location with lovely views from the cottage. The cottage is full of character and spotlessly clean. All the equipment is of a good standard, with a decent kitchen. The lounge has a multi fuel burner which adds to the character. The owner left us some goodies for our arrival, which was very thoughtful and greatly appreciated. I found the owner pleasant, although we had no problems, so contact was minimal. The location is great for touring the area, with Settle only a 10 minute drive. The town has all the necessary shops to get your supplies. Lots of lovely walks straight from the doorstep. Parking a little tricky as none allocated to cottage, so with 2 very small children was a little awkward at times. But landlord allowed us to park in car park behind pub when there was none available. Just a slight point to note for people with children and dogs, the garden gate in the back garden has no latch or fixings, so swings freely straight onto the road/bridge although it looks closed! I think the only downside were the huge quarry lorries that thunder past the cottage from @5.45am but they were noisiest in the two front(?) bedrooms.

The property

A delightful, 300-year old, stone-built terraced cottage, in the very heart of the pretty Dales village of Horton-in-Ribblesdale, home of the famous Three Peaks, 6 miles from Settle.

A delightful Three Peaks cottage, set across the road from one of the village's two traditional pubs, the cottage retains much original character, with wonderful beamed ceilings, a feature stone fireplace with warming multi fuel stove, and three cosy bedrooms, creating a very special atmosphere which exudes olde worlde charm.

Outside this Three Peaks cottage, the spacious lawned garden is ideal for dining alfresco, and boasts a babbling brook and lovely views of the surrounding countryside.

The famous Settle-Carlisle Railway line, which passes over the magnificent Ribblehead Viaduct, is just a 5 minute walk from this Three Peaks cottage, whilst the market towns of Settle and Skipton are nearby.

Various walks can be enjoyed from the doorstep on the Pennine Way and in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, while the more energetic visitor can 'clock in' at the village's Pen-y-Ghent cafe and take on the challenge of the Three Peaks walk!

A wonderful Three Peaks cottage for a holiday in the Dales.
