Lonin cottage exceeded its description in many ways. The owners are kind and generous and supplied many items that one gets in a B&B or hotel; they clearly care for your comfort and the location is especially beautiful due to their gardening. If you like the countryside and the history behind the landscape then this area has it all. There are indoor visits to do if it rains but there are many walks of all distances if you are able to do those. You can 'just look' and enjoy the surroundings as they are very different to where most people live.

West Hury Farm Cottages

The perfect place to use as a base for a walking holiday around the Pennine's. Or, why not visit Romaldkirk, with its award-winning pub. Those of you who remember the Hannah Hauxwell TV series will enjoy a wander along to Hannah's Meadow, a mile up the dale. Cyclists will appreciate the challenging landscape, offering you an alternative way to explore the East Pennines. A rejuvenating break, all year round.

The market town of Barnard Castle is situated in the unspoilt countryside of Teesdale in County Durham. It stands on the site of an ancient Roman fort which crosses the river. The medieval ruins of the castle still tower over the river and are well worth a visit. Known affectionately as 'Barney’ by residents and visitors alike, the town boasts cobble streets, yards and back lanes, which were first laid out in the 12th century. The nearby Bowes Museum is well worth a visit and a wonderful way to spend a day wandering around this beautiful building and experiencing the fascinating exhibitions. Beautiful walking country is right on the doorstep of this lovely market town, with woodland walks and cycle routes and the Lake District, the Pennine and Teesdale Ways, and the River Tees and magnificent waterfalls at High Force are all within easy reach.
