  • "Lovely property it has obviously been updated recently, the decor is superb."

Having stayed at alot of sykes cottages I do have a few recommendations to the owners. The bedroom needs a blackout blind. In the summer months being woken at 430am isn't ideal. The parking outside is permit holders only, I spoke to a neighbour and said you need to park on the green. This is very busy and had to walk quite a distance not a problem really just advising future bookings. The owners could supply information on how to check out, there wasn't any details on stripping beds or waste or recycling options. There is a black bin so everything went in there. Bathroom could do with a splash back by the basin as the wood gets wet each time it's used. The cottage is a great base for the surrounding area.

  • "Cobble Cottage is a fabulous cottage situated on edge of Kendal town."

Beautifully decorated, very comfortable with high quality furnishings and spotlessly clean. No direct parking beside the cottage but it was easy enough to park around the village green just up the road. Great place to stay for exploring the Lake District as you are within around 30 mins to an hour drive from Keswick, Ambleside, Coniston, etc.

  • "The only improvement I can think of would be a coffee machine."

Hi Amanda, Thank you for your feedback . We did consider a coffee machine but opted for the cafetiere and filter coffee as the pods are not environmentally friendly. Hope it didn't impact too much on your stay and that you will visit us again :) Property Owner

  • "Fantastic cottage fitted out to a very high standard."

Pictures are great but entering into the cottage is more special. Welcoming treats on arrival which was a really nice touch. Great shops, restaurants, cafes and bars to visit along Stricklandgate, Kendal 5-7 minute walk from property. Will be returning to stay in this cottage again in the near future. Thank you so much xXx

  • "What we loved: - The cottage was very clean and well kept, with stylish decor and all the main appliances needed."

    - The small gestures like providing tea, coffee, biscuits, etc was a lovely touch and greatly appreciated. - All information needed was provided including a visitors book, which was a fantastic way of sharing recommendations. - The central heating worked great, but the blankets provided were also a nice touch. - There are some gorgeous restaurants nearby, like Sapore and Yee Old Fleece Inn. Tips for the owner: - It would be helpful to provide a sponge for the kitchen sink, some coat hooks at the front door, a towel rack and a toiletry holder in the shower. - The bed is quite small and not as soft as we would have liked. Using a thick, cushioned mattress protector would be beneficial. - Ensure when a customer contacts you regarding an issue with the property, that you reply in a friendly and helpful manner. Always finish an exchange with ‘thank you’ or ‘I hope you enjoy the rest of your holiday.’ You did neither of these things when I contacted you regarding the upstairs TV not working. Tips for a visitor: - We didn’t realise this, but Kendal isn’t actually an idea place to visit. There isn’t much going on, the city centres quite rough and there’s a lot of crime in the area. - The location of the cottage is not far from the city centre which is great, however there is a steep hill to walk back up on your way home. - The flooring is mainly concrete and wood, so make sure to pack some slippers. - There is no bannister on the lower-half of the narrow staircase, so not ideal if you are unsteady on your feet.

Hi Alexandra, Thank you for your positive comments on our cottage, we pride ourselves on its cleanliness and comfort. Cobble cottage is finished to a very high standard with original flagstone floors, oak flooring and fitted carpet. We endeavour to provide our guests with all that they would need to enjoy a comfortable stay; there are freshly laundered dishcloths and tea towels in the drawer and kitchen sponges under the sink. The bathroom has a period style towel radiator. The bed is a double sleigh bed with a cosy memory foam mattress. The walk in closet has copious storage . We consider ourselves to be courteous and approachable at all times - even when contacted by text at 10.30pm, having reread the conversation we were polite and helpful and offered to pop in the following morning - an offer that you declined. We are sorry that you had problems with the television. We cleaned the cottage ourselves prior to your check in and all was in order, all the appliances, both tv's and the Alexa were checked and working properly - we ask that to avoid issues guests don't take it upon themselves to pull out the wires and alter all the settings on either of the tv's. Kendal is a small market town situated in South Lakeland and known as the gateway to the Lakes - The Lake district is world famous for its mountainous fells, a consequence of this beauty is that our town is a little hilly. The town boasts its own castle, two museums and a host of historical buildings, cobbled streets, yards and beautiful churches. There are lots of restaurants , pubs and shops, a twice weekly market, a cinema and arts centre and a number of festivals and gatherings throughout the year, indeed over the weekend that you visited there was live music in a number of venues- hardly a town with little going on! On checking National crime statistics, the crime rate in our town is 38% lower than the national average and Kendal is considered to be one of the safest towns in the County. Lakeland is a UNESCO world heritage site not a run down, crime ridden conurbation. It would seem that you didn't enjoy your visit to the area - everyone is entitled to their opinion. We are hurt by your fact less comments but still wish you well and hope that your next short break suits you better. Property Owner

  • "Cobble Cottage was a great find for us."

We searched on Google for 2 person holiday accommodation near Kendal. It is a short walk into the town and just 7m from Windermere and 7m to Levens Hall and gardens in the car. We arrived at 3pm on a Friday to find the Cottage clean and welcoming. Thanks to the owners for the personal touches. Ken enjoyed the local brew and I, the tea/coffee tray with milk and biscuits. Upstairs the sunny bedroom and superb bathroom were a wow! Loved the chandelier and fluffy towel ‘swans’’ too. There is a M&S in town and a short drive finds Sainsbury + fuel, Morrison’s and Aldi. We were blessed with good, dry and mostly sunny weather and also Visited Coniston and Ullswater. The drive between Windermere and Ullswater was very scenic! All in all ( apart from a puncture, beware of the potholes) we had a wonderful week in Cobble Cottage. We shall certainly use Sykes Cottages again in our accommodation searches.

Hi Linda, Wow - It sounds like you had a fabulous week! It is heart-warming to hear that you enjoyed your stay at Cobble Cottage and that our little touches were appreciated. We hope to be able to welcome you back shortly :) Property Owner

  • "After having time to reflect."

Knowing it was winter and the weather was very wet and windy the owners said we could turn the heating up via the thermostat (oh good we thought, we can get warm and dry after being out 4-5 hours). Oh NO!!!! Heating was on a timer. Found the property draughty and even when we got more kindle and logs for the log burner we never felt warm.

Dear Kathryn, We are so sorry that you weren't comfortable during your stay, unfortunately as you arrived at the cottage early we had not finished our changeover. We came in to replace a couple of kitchen items and check the heating and were quite surprised to see you already inside. Cobble cottage is a fully renovated, insulated and double glazed Lakeland stone cottage. The Lake District has seen some truly grotty weather throughout February, being hit by storms. Dudley, Eunice and Franklin. We pride ourselves on the cleanliness and comfort of our cottage. We do provide a basket of logs, kindling and recycled fire logs for all our guests. Our telephone numbers are in the welcome pack for you to use if you have any problems and we clearly state that we can pop in as we are just around the corner. If you had called we would have happily put the heating onto constant for the duration of your stay. We are hurt by the scores you have left. Property Owner

  • "What a lovely little cottage, slightly smaller than it appeared on the website photos however didn’t spoil our expectations."

The amenities were very good and the little gifts left for us were a lovely touch. Would have preferred the smart TV to be in the lounge area rather than bedroom as we don’t watch TV in bed ever. One of two housekeeping things missing, I.e. toilet brush and something to wash dishes however again did not spoil our stay. We would definitely recommend and return.

Good Morning Theresa, Thank you for your lovely comments, we are glad that you had a lovely stay. We thank you for your comments and will look at replacing the TV in the Lounge which currently offers the Sky TV channels. There are freshly laundered tea towels and dish cloths in the kitchen drawer and the bathroom has both toilet cleaner and Dettol wipes. We hope to welcome you back soon x Property Owner
