“The cottage was nice, and well equipped, but needs a revamp.”

The train main line running along near the property wasn’t mentioned. The outside sofa was broken and we told the owner who lived next door, who said he would get it sorted the next day. Nothing changed over the week.

Thank you very much for your feedback. The pictures on the website are a true reflection of my property and it was repainted in spring so nothing has changed. Regarding the sofa, thank you very much for flagging it to us during your stay. We are still looking for a suitable alternative in order to replace it. We feel there is sufficient seating outside so do hope that this would not have spoiled your holiday and we hope you had a good stay otherwise. Thank you. - Sykes owner relations

The property

Kendal 2 miles.

This well-presented, cosy cottage is attached to the owner's home in the rolling countryside close to the historic town of Kendal in the southern Lakes.

This well-equipped cottage has a real feel of traditional country charm from the cottage-style kitchen to the French doors opening from the living area onto the sunny garden.

Put your feet up and tuck into the generous welcome pack that the owner has thoughtfully provided.

From bacon and sausages to coffee and wine, there is something for any time of day.

Both bedrooms are tastefully presented with TVs and the bathroom has both a roll top bath and separate shower.

Stepping outside into the private sunny garden you can enjoy the delightful open countryside landscape whilst enjoying a morning drink or alfresco meal after your day’s activities.

This is a perfect spot for friends and family to enjoy this delightful outside space or cosy living area.

You can easily walk to a pub from this cottage but there are plenty just a short drive away including the Strickland Arms which is dog friendly and even has dog treats on the bar along with real fires and stone flagged floors.

There is also Romneys serving traditional pub food with an all day carvery and covered outdoor play area on the outskirts of Kendal.

You are close to majestic Sizergh Castle which is well worth a trip with its lovely grounds, gardens and historic interior.

Locally also is Levens Hall, a glorious old house with superb gardens and world-class topiary and supposed grey lady ghost.

Kendal itself has the River Kent running through the middle and is steeped in history with its church on the river banks, ancient courtyards, ginnels and a good array of independent shops, the Abbot Art Gallery along with the brewery arts centre which has music, comedy and art festivals throughout the year.

A little further afield but very accessible is Bowness and Windermere which has the Aquarium, Beatrix Potter centre and an array of lake activities.

Sit back and enjoy a cruise to Newby Bridge or Ambleside as you marvel at the wonderful surrounding scenery.

You are also well placed to enjoy walks in Yorkshire, the Howgill Fells or why not visit Kirby Lonsdale, an attractive historic market town?

A particularly beautiful walk above Kendal is Scout Scar, a circular walk with a vantage spot which gives 360 degree views of the area from Yorkshire to Blackpool tower and the coast.

This cosy and romantic Cumbrian cottage is perfectly positioned to enjoy all this area has to offer at any time of the year.

KENDAL

Windermere 8 miles.

A historic market town with a fine reputation for shopping, Kendal nestles on the banks of the River Kent and is known as the Southern Gateway to the Lakes. Its old cobbled lanes and byways branch off the attractive main street, and the stone ruins of 12th century Kendal Castle sit perched on a hill with views over the town. Visit The Abbot Hall Art Gallery, its regular collection holding portraits by Kendal born George Romney and works by Turner and Ruskin, with other exhibitions through its links with the Tate. Both Sizergh Castle and Levens Hall with its superb Topiary Garden are nearby, as are limestone escarpments for easy walking, offering thrilling views of the Lakeland Mountains, the Howgills and Morecambe Bay. Kendal itself is ideally placed for exploring South Lakeland, the Yorkshire Dales and beyond. With other attractions such as Kendal Museum and the Museum of Lakeland Life, the fascinating Quaker Tapestry, Lake Windermere and the wider National Park within easy reach, Kendal provides a superb base for a relaxing break.
