  • "Moorhurst is the most beautiful little cottage and was a great base for us to go and explore the Lake District."

Beautifully decorated and clean, with everything you could need, with great use of nooks and cranny’s! The views across the bay were fabulous. Bedrooms funny layout as you get to the 2nd room through the master, wouldn’t be an issue for families or 2 couples that don’t want 100% privacy! As a sole couple though didn’t bother us at all though! What else to say other than there is a fabulous little tea shop at Haslemere as you come into the sands, with a great traditional bakery, lovely bread and cakes and very reasonably priced. Thank you for a wonderful stay, hope to return soon!

Sarah, thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We were especially pleased that you loved our cottage. And had a great stay. Yes it’s definitely quirky which I think is what makes it so special. We would love to welcome you back to Moorhurst on your next trip to Cumbria. Thank you, from Beverly Property Owner

  • "Overall great but if we'd had children with us the upstairs toilet is too small to be practical and being right at the top of the stairs makes it a little unsafe."

Also, whilst it's a nice gesture to receive a bottle of wine, I would gladly have swapped it for a bottle of milk and some tea/coffee. We didn't expect a hamper but for the price paid you would expect basic refreshments and toiletries.

Celia, thank you for visiting Moorhurst Cottage. We are pleased you felt overall your stay was great. We note your point about young children and agree with you which is why our listing says not suitable for young children. In regards to the welcome bottle of wine we have done much research and found that one persons tea/coffee is another persons herbal tea and difficult to cater for everyone’s tastes. We do provide the basics, soaps, toilet paper and kitchen essentials. Property Owner

  • "What can I say… Moorhurst definitely didn’t disappoint!"

!! Absolutely stunning!!! Really nice cottage inside and out! Lovely area, close to all amenities, wish I would of booked for longer! Only one thing I would bring up is that there are people living below the cottage and the hard floor throughout makes it quite noisy for the people living below, I do believe this should be mentioned in the listing for the property!

Thank you for the feedback it is very thoughtful of you to think of our neighbours in the cottage below who we have a great relationship with. We have gone to great lengths to minimise the noise transfer to the property below. You may remember there are extra thick huge rugs in the property to minimise noise. There is also insulation below the hard floor and a false ceiling below that too. The other property is hidden because of the slope of the land - so it does look and feel like it disappears - giving us the advantage of the amazing views. Property Owner

  • "We have stayed at Moorhurst Cottage before and so staying there for Christmas was extra special."

The location is great to be as busy or as quiet as you want to make it with Bowness being just a short drive away. The facilities within the cottage are great with everything you need for your stay, the cottage is spotlessly clean and very welcoming making you instantly relax. Moorhurst is exactly the same as the photos. Due to it being Christmas we had a few days where we just stayed in watching movies, playing games and spending hours just watching the ever changing view from the windows out across the bay. No matter the time, day or night, the view is just mesmerising. Due to us doing a back to back stay everything was organised in advance for our extra long stay with the owners for bedding and towels. We absolutely love Moorhurst Cottage and loved our special Christmas stay.

We are so glad you had a memorable Christmas in Moorhurst. Thank you for your glowing feedback. We go to great lengths to make everyones stay enjoyable. Property Owner

  • "Moorhurst cottage/apartment is a lovely, quirky little place."

The design, tasteful decor, fixtures and fittings have been well thought out by the owners. Comfy beds, powerful shower, power-points and mirrors where you need them together with good quality kitchen appliances. The owners have put a lot of thought with attention to detail including a pair of binoculars, maps, books, games together with a lovely bottle of wine. It was very quiet with just the occasional car and train passing by and no noise from adjoining properties. Kents Bank railway station about 5 minutes walk away. Our only disappointment on arrival was seeing scaffolding covering adjoining property that overhung Moorhurst and obstructed the view of the Bay. Work had finished so this should not be a problem for others once removed but we had not had warning to expect this.

We are so pleased you enjoyed staying at Moorhurst. We are sorry we didn’t alert you to next doors scaffolding as we thought it would have been removed by the time you arrived. That was our mistake and, as you know, it’s still waiting for the team to take it away!! We are reliable informed it will go this Monday - we have let the incoming holiday makers know so they are not surprised! Moorhurst is such a great place to discover the Lakes from and I am very pleased you mention Kent’s Bank Railway. It offers opportunities to just leave the car behind and visit either South down to Arnside (we like to cycle to Arnside and then put the bikes on the train to come back!). Or north up to Ravenglass where you can intercept the steam railway to Eskdale. All good fine or poor weather options. Alternatively, you can just sit and watch the ever changing view of the estuary and wonder in for coffee, lunch or evening meal via the promenade. It’s why we love the place so much Property Owner

The cottage itself is really beautiful and thoughtfully equipped. It felt very homely. Grange Over Sands is a really brilliant base from which to explore the Lakes while staying in a quieter location, which was exactly what we were hoping for. The owners have added lovely little touches such as books about the Lake District and other information to help you learn about the area and its history and to find your way around, and there was a bottle of wine waiting for us on arrival which we would never expect but is so appreciated. The views are of Grange Over Sands are heavenly, the cottage is in a peaceful location with exceptionally lovely and friendly neighbours who were only too happy to share their wonderful local wisdom with us, which added to how welcome we felt staying there. Thank you for providing the most perfect base for our week exploring the Lakes; we can't wait to come back!

We are so pleased you found the place to be spotless and with gorgeous views. • "I stayed at Moorhurst Cottage for a week recently with my sister."

We both thoroughly enjoyed our time there, especially as the weather was very kind. The cottage, (which is actually a 2 storey flat), has been very tastefully renovated and decorated. It was very comfortable and well equipped and although the kitchen is quite small, we managed to do what we needed to do. The views across Morecambe Bay are stunning and an ever changing vista as the tide comes and goes. The cottage was very clean and our only criticism would be that there is only a small paved area to sit out on with a few pots of plants and a picnic-type table. (We did discover a couple of fold-up camping-type chairs in the utility cupboard.) The view is wonderful from there but it did not create the best impression when we first arrived as the key safe is near the back door which gives onto the terrace. A lot of dead leaves had blown in, probably due to the high winds we have had recently but which had not been cleared away. It is a fabulous area to visit with easy access to the Lake District. Although quite a small town, Grange-over-Sands has a number of high quality food shops with plenty of cafes and watering holes. Other towns such as Kendal and Ulverston are not far away. There is a small railway station at Kent’s Bank which is also on a bus route but neither buses nor trains are very frequent. We would both be very happy to return to Moorhurst Cottage in the future.

Thank you for your feedback which we always act on!! The leaves! Moorhurst back door loves to collect them in any wind from all of the trees in the entire Grange over Sands area - or at least it feels like it sometimes! The majority appear to whip under the small gate so we are trying to see if we can put something on the bottom to stop their ingress and then also increase our leaf patrols! It is a never ending job - sadly even in summer! Kent’s bank railway is also a hidden gem giving access to so many places! You can even take push bikes on it!! Once again thank you for the comments and we would welcome you back anytime. If you do, and there is a problem like the leaves again, just let us know and we will sort it immediately. Property Owner

Thank you for your feedback. The photos of the property are exactly as per the description. The building does have another property below which has been sound proofed to prevent noise affecting them leaving the above two story cottage free to enjoy the amazing views of Morecambe bay and the ever changing nature on the salt marshes. However on this visit our evenings spoilt due to not being able to hear the TV?!? No remote supplied for TV just the Sky Remote which did not alter volume, went into settings to pair the remote but with no luck. We think owners have put a “hotel mode” on tv to stop having it too loud, but the volume set was ridiculously low, we could not hear a thing on Netflix or Disney+. Our evenings planned spoilt as we always spend them with a meal followed by board games then finish off with a film. Very disappointed and frustrating to say the least on this stay @ Moorhurst. We also feel in 2022 it’s about time a somewhat larger TV could be installed it is extremely small and has been to he same TV for some years now.

We are sorry you experienced problems with the volume control on the TV.The Sky controller works both the TV & Sky. We know our maintenance team tried to help you with the problem but as you didn't call them back we assumed the issue had been resolved. Our team have been in today and resolved it. Clearly there is an intermittent software fault between the TV and the new Sky Box. So we have taken this opportunity to order a new TV to resolve the problem. Property Owner

No tea towels left only one and half rolls of toilet paper for three guests for a week? The pillows on beds were unusable to offer no support. Luckily we had bought our own.
