The property

Set on the outskirts of Grange-Over-Sands, a charming village in Cumbria, is this grand, 1850's holiday home, Wyncote.

Enveloped by the countryside, yet within driving distance to the coast, Wyncote is the ideal dwelling for a group break, inviting four guests on a self-catering basis.

Parking up on the nearby roadside, head up to the property, taking in its stone-fronted, characterful exterior.

Arriving in the galley style kitchen, use this space to prepare your meals, cater to your group’s needs, and keep on top of your laundry; the space is complete with a washing machine, electric oven, and microwave, along with further expected appliances.

Venturing into the living/dining room, light the open fire, switch on the TV, and dine as a group, immersed in a traditionally kept setting.

For some peace and quiet, head to the snug, displaying views of fields and woodlands within the distance of Cumbria; the ground-floor is complete with a cloakroom for convenience.

Outside you'll be welcomed by a multi-level garden, with an abundance of planting and blooms, where you can relax, dine, enjoy a barbecue, and light the firepit on colder evenings.

As dusk sets in, retire to two king-size bedrooms, one of which has its own en-suite shower room, completed to a contemporary standard, whilst a traditional bathroom will service the second bedroom.

Beyond Wyncote, make use of an array of restaurants, convenience stores and pubs, situated in the heart of Grange-Over-Sands, perfect for whether you want to dine in or dine out; The Estuary Bistro is a popular local eatery, whilst the essentials can be purchased at a nearby Tesco Express.

The village and its neighbouring towns home a variety of nature trails, beaches and National Trust sites, fitting for a visit, whether in the summer or winter months; Holker Hall and Gardens display immaculate grounds for strolling around, Sandgate to Chapel Island Bay Walk is ideal for avid hikers, and Grange-Over-Sands Beach is perfect for a relax.

Towards Lake Windermere you'll find further attractions, such as Lakes Aquarium, Fell Foot, and the Lake District White Water Rafting site, recommended for keen thrill-seekers.

Travelling North, reach the market town of Kendal, where you can tour its resident museum, visit The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction, or enjoy some outdoor activities, such as the mini maze, at Lakeland Maze Farm Park.

Experience an adventure-filled break in Cumbria, by choosing Wyncote as your base.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £100.

About the location

GRANGE-OVER-SANDS

Cartmel 2 miles; Lake Windermere 8 miles; Kendal 10 miles.

The charming Edwardian resort of Grange-over-Sands is set between the Lake District fells and Morecambe Bay and offers one of the mildest climates in the north of England. Formerly a small fishing village, the introduction of the Furness Railway transformed Grange-over-Sands into a fashionable Edwardian resort. Today, the town has much to offer the visitor including a traffic-free promenade, delightful ornamental gardens, golf courses, brass band concerts and excellent bird watching. Just a short drive away are Lake Windermere (8 miles), the villages of Bowness-on-Windermere and Hawkshead, which still retain the charm and character that has endeared them to so many, and the home of sticky toffee pudding, Cartmel, with its famous racecourse and the L’Enclume restaurant, which has been voted the 4th best restaurant in the UK. Other attractions in the area include Levens Hall, with its Elizabethan Hall and world famous topiary gardens, Holker Hall, Furness Abbey, Sizergh Castle, a National Trust medieval house and gardens, and Conishead Priory, a Gothic revival country house. There is also the 25 mile Cistercian Way which starts at Grange over Sands. Set amidst the southern lakes, the attractive town of Grange-over-Sands makes a superb base from which to enjoy the whole of this magical area.
