  • "Overall Lune Cottage is a lovely, homely place to stay."

It has pretty much everything you need in a holiday cottage, is in a handy location for accessing all the shops and pubs of Kirkby Lonsdale and is a comfortable and welcoming property. Particularly appreciated was the amount of little extras on arrival - not just a pint of milk - but plenty of cleaning products, kitchen towels, cooking essentials etc plus a bottle of wine to compensate for one of the bedroom blinds not working which was unnecessary as it actually did but still much appreciated! The beds are also very comfortable. There are only a few little niggles: bathroom towels were provided but could do with replacing as they weren't of a great quality and have had plenty of use (would have preferred to have brought our own). Whilst the shower itself was fine, it's over a corner bath with a short folding screen and so it's really difficult not to flood the bathroom floor as the water goes everywhere. It also looks a bit dated with sealant slathered everywhere to try and stop it leaking. Given the property is not really suitable for very young or very old guests I think it's time to ditch the bath and put in a proper walk-in shower, which would greatly enhance the guest experience. And at the same time sort out the noisy bathroom door as it's so creaky to close that it's impossible to use the toilet quietly at night or first thing without waking everyone up. Overall though it has lots going for it and is a value for money option in a popular and pretty village and would definitely recommend it as a place to have a relaxing and enjoyable holiday. P.s. we had no problems finding a free parking space in the residential crescent located just behind the property every day, worth bearing in mind.

A great time was had by all. The cottage is conveniently located only a couple of minutes walk from the centre of Kirkby Lonsdale with it’s lovely pubs, restaurants and shops. Yet it’s quiet and close also to the river and many picturesque walks. • "The cottage was perfect!"

Lovely spacious kitchen with everything you needed to prepare a family meal, quick snack or even bake. The front room was cosy and had a great selection of dvd's and games including dominoes and playing cards. I was happy to use the washing machine so I didn't have a pile of washing to do when I got home (washing tablets were provided). The small courtyard was a lovely place to sit and have a cuppa and read or listen to the sounds of nature. The bedrooms were comfortable and cosy, beds very comfortable and sheets and duvet covers soft to the touch. Great natural light comes into the property from in all rooms. Clear instructions on how to use and find everything. Wifi info easy to find in more than one place. I stayed with my husband and two children (6 and 9 years old). The children loved the cottage and did not want to leave! We even had my niece and brother over for dinner. It felt like were were at home. Power shower in the bathroom was nice and my children loved the bath. Enough essentials such as toilet roll and hand wash, tea, coffee and sugar. Great property, great host, excellent location no complaints. Shops less than 5 mins walk. Can't wait to visit again, maybe for longer next time. We had to take our recycling with us but that was fine, as we dropped it off at the recycling location close to the local supermarket, which was where we were picking up our bus anyway. I can't tell you how much I enjoyed my stay with my family. My only niece lives 5 mins walk from the cottage, such a convenient location to local businesses, tourist info, pubs, tranquil walks, local historic buildings and sights. I have to stop, I could go on and on. My best get away in a long time!

The property was very clean and had all the facilities we needed with the advantage of being in the heart of the village so walking distance to all pubs and cafe's including a favourite place for breakfast, "Botanica". Whilst there is no parking at the property, its easy to purchase a 7 day permit for one of the car parks in the centre, with the benefit that you can also use at various other locations in South Lakeland (check PayByPhone app). The walks nearby are excellent with ample opportunities for dogs to be off lead, just check livestock first. We look forward to returning next year, fingers crossed!

If you have a car it can take some time to find a parking nearby on weekends and market days. The facilities looked fabulous, we didn't use the kitchen much as we spent most of our time with family who live locally. Beds and sofa's were all comfortable and the house feels cosy. The cottage was spotlessly clean on arrival and I have rarely slept in a comfier bed! Kirkby Lonsdale itself is one of the prettiest villages around and will definitely be back. There are some great walks straight from the village and a 30 minute car journey will take you to the more challenging 3 peaks etc. You are literally spoilt for choice in terms of places to eat & we can highly reccomend Platos, Botanica and The Orange Tree. About the location

KIRKBY LONSDALE

Kendal 9 miles.

An attractive market town, Kirkby Lonsdale is situated in the heart of the Lune Valley, midway between the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District. The town was mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, and holds a 13th century Market Charter. Nowadays, Thursday is market day, a perfect opportunity for visitors to explore the variety of distinctive independent shops in the town, or the many 17th and 18th century buildings which still stand. The town was also a finalist for the High Street of the Year Award in 2016. This part of the Lune Valley was a favourite haunt of the artist Turner, and was made famous by Ruskin – his "view" of the valley is still spectacular. The medieval Devil’s Bridge spans the river, and the quiet country lanes are ideal for exploring by car, bike, or even horse. There are three golf courses nearby, as well as tennis, riding, fishing and a variety of riverside and country walks, making the area an ideal location for a break, whatever time of year. When voting Kirkby Lonsdale as the ‘Best Place to Live in The North West’ in 2019, The Sunday Times commented it is “An unbeatable Lake District location, bags of community spirit and one of the cleanest high streets in the country".
