  • "This cottage is ideally situated near the centre of Kirkby and the bus routes to explore the surrounding area without taking the car out."

Great local facilities. The cottage is cosy and has everything you need. Communication is good with the owner. All in all this lovely cottage was the base of a great break.

  • "A nice little cottage centrally located."

Owner really lovely with communication and local tips. Warm and clean. The bath wasn’t really useable for a good soak after long autumn days walking but for the price there certainly isn’t anything to complain about.

Many thanks for your feedback. I'm sorry the bath wasn't big enough for a long soak but it is listed as a small bath at only 120com long. I'm thrilled my local tips helped you and that you found the property warm and clean. We hope you had a lovely holiday, Property Owner

  • "Really lovely cottage in centre of town with parking."

Couldn't be a better location. Clean & tidy. Seating area a little on the small side for 2 tall adults and 2 lanky teenagers but that cant be helped!! Everything you need for a holiday in this cottage and short walking distance to shops and view points and local walks. Best of both worlds on edge of Yorkshire and the Lakes, would definitely return as couldnt fit everything in a week.

Having a parking spot in Kirkby a plus.

  • "The cottage is in a great location for anyone wanting to be in quiet spot close to the centre of Kirkby Lonsdale."

The availability of parking in the courtyard outside the cottage was particularly valuable for the two of us, who spent our week visiting family as well as exploring the area. There were only two items, which let-down the cottage, that we think we should mention. The fridge in the kitchen wasn't working properly; and it would be useful to have an accessible switch on the wall in the single bedroom to save the occupant having to get out of bed to turn the light on and off.

Thank you for your comments, we are really pleased you enjoyed your stay. The fridge has now been checked by Sykes cleaners and is reported to be working. With regards to the light switch, we appreciate your feedback. The light switch in the single bedroom is incredibly close to the bed and there is a lamp as well so we hope you weren't too inconvenienced. Property Owner

  • "We live in a modern apartment near the sea so it was a lovely change to spend a comfortable week in this cottage so close to the Lakes."

We loved the fact that, although it was in the centre of Kirkby Lonsdale, it was hidden in an amazing warren of houses. The river was only a 10 minute walk from the house without us having to walk down a main road. We walked it three times. We both enjoyed our stay and loved returning to the cottage after exploring. It was exciting to get away for a week after the stresses of lockdown. It revived us no end. Thank you Liz for our wonderful experience.

Liz was easily contactable had we needed anything. Although we were mostly out and about, it felt great to come back here in the evening to relax.

  • "We really liked this property."

It was exactly as described and clean and comfortable. Located in a quiet courtyard setting yet only a couple of minutes walk to all amenities. The private parking was a real bonus as this is a rarity in the centre of Kirkby Lonsdale. The owner was friendly and helpful over the phone. We hope to return some time. (Only one suggestion - the fireplace could do with a focal point fire. Appreciate that this may not be an open fire or log burner but there are some very good electric flame effect options out there that would help the room look cosier on a cooler summer night or winter evening).

  • "Great quiet location with easy access to picturesque town centre and surrounding beautiful countryside."

Central to Hawes and North Yorkshire Dales on one side and Kendal and the Lake District in the other. Accommodation more comfortable for 4 people than 5 with the one bathroom. Bathroom fresh and modern. Lounge could be made brighter. Owner very responsive and helpful and a joy to chat too. Neighbours were warm and welcoming. Tourist information staff were also brilliant .

  • "Old Farm Cottage is absolutely delightful."

Brilliant location, only 2 minutes walk to the town but in a secluded courtyard. A walk to Devils Bridge and the river is only 10 minutes walk away and is a must! Ruskin's View is beautiful and would recommend a walk there at dusk for the beautiful colourful scenery. Kirkby Lonsdale Brewery is well worth a visit with modern seating area to enjoy the wonderful ales on offer. And recommend The Snooty Fox for food along with the many coffee shops available in the town. The owner is very helpful and courteous. Would love to return for a future stay.

About the location

Kendal 9 miles.

An attractive market town, Kirkby Lonsdale is situated in the heart of the Lune Valley, midway between the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District. The town was mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, and holds a 13th century Market Charter. Nowadays, Thursday is market day, a perfect opportunity for visitors to explore the variety of distinctive independent shops in the town, or the many 17th and 18th century buildings which still stand. The town was also a finalist for the High Street of the Year Award in 2016. This part of the Lune Valley was a favourite haunt of the artist Turner, and was made famous by Ruskin – his "view" of the valley is still spectacular. The medieval Devil’s Bridge spans the river, and the quiet country lanes are ideal for exploring by car, bike, or even horse. There are three golf courses nearby, as well as tennis, riding, fishing and a variety of riverside and country walks, making the area an ideal location for a break, whatever time of year. When voting Kirkby Lonsdale as the ‘Best Place to Live in The North West’ in 2019, The Sunday Times commented it is “An unbeatable Lake District location, bags of community spirit and one of the cleanest high streets in the country’.
