  • "A comfortable, warm and well equipped cottage in a good location to base a walking or sight seeing holiday in the W Dales, N Lakes & Howgills."

Although the cottage is situated on a main street for through traffic we had no problem from vehicle noise during our stay.

Kirkby Stephen is a good base, with a mixture of shops, pubs and restaurants - and access to splendid countryside. Fettler's Cottage was comfortable, and good value for money. It was good to have the little patio to sit out on

  • "Cottage is good for the most part but a few small niggles with things not working/cleaned properly."

For example; Mains plug in master bedroom not providing power, Integrated USB ports in lounge not connected to power, Bed sheet not on bed properly, left over bottles from previous visitors not binned. Other then That lovely cottage and owners are solid straight forward people

  • "Yes, there is a problem with the manhole outside the cottage on the Main Street which clatters relentlessly with heavy traffic (not the cottage fault or yours which is unfortunate as the cottage is 1st Class) but people staying who wish to have a good night sleep not ideal."

Enclosed garden which is great for our little dog. Great to have televisions in all bedrooms.

  • "All heating and fuel are included in the price, that's not exactly correct as you can't alter the heating to come on when you are actually needing it."

... I booked this trip for my nearly 80 year old parents, and they were frozen to the the point of feeling ill!!! Feel this is over priced at £320 for a 2 night's stay, especially as no towels or bedding are included.... they did eventually get bedding as they found out to late about bringing their own. Cottage is In desperate need of a make over, especially as there are nails holding a very tatty stair carpet down. Definitely wasn't a dirty place but not top notch cleaning either. Advertisd as 3 tvs, one doesn't work, one is the size of a large mobile phone and the other worked when it wanted to. No basic welcome pack as In other places, infact thing's were removed due to 'covid' but the price remained high. Very disappointing.

We are terribly sorry to hear that your parents did not enjoy their stay with us. This is news to us as we were not made aware at time that they had difficulty working the heating. We would like to assure yourself and our future guests that there is not issue with the heating and clear instructions were provided prior to your stay. The heating is set to come on and off at specific times of the day starting from 7am until 11pm and the temperature can be adjusted using the thermostat. With reference to your comments about the bed linen and towels, we did make it known roughly 3 weeks prior to your stay that these would not be provided due to the ongoing pandemic. We did not hear back from you following this communication. The cottage is very well kept and regularly maintained throughout the season as our prior and following reviews will reflect this. The carpets were recently shampooed prior to your parents arrival. We can assure our guests that the TV's are in working order and there are instructions provided should there be any difficulty understanding how they work. Again, we would like to apologise if the stay did not match your parents expectations. Had we been made aware at the time that there were any issues during their stay, we would have been more than happy to help as we do provide our contact details should you need us. Thank you very much for your comments and for taking the time to let us know your thoughts. Customer feedback is very important to help us continually improve our standards. Property Owner

  • "The cottage is in a perfect location."

Kirkby Stephen is a lovely place & the cottage is at the end of the High Street, there is plenty of free parking around. A short walk to the centre of the town and a Spar a couple of minutes away. The cottage has a lovely outdoor area at the back which is a suntrap, and patio furniture to use. It is kitted out with everything you need for a short of long stay. There are amazing walks and magnificent scenery from the cottage doorstep along with some amazing drives, we firmly recommend the Middleton in Teasdale to Brough Road as an mazing drive. We are looking forward to a return trip soon!!

The King sized bed was the most comfortable bed I've slept on in a long time as I've got on going back problems, our bed is really quite firm, this was comfy & firm at same time, We also went to the Black Bull for an evening meal one night a brilliant meal and a cracking pint as well. A BRILLIANT STAY!!!

  • "This was a really nice little cottage and we enjoyed using it as a base to visit the lakes."

Good facilities and the owners were very pleasant to deal with. The only downside is that the mattress in the master bedroom was very uncomfortable. 1st night I felt just about every spring in it. We put a blanket and the quilt from the spare room on top of the sheet the following night and was much better. A new mattress or a good mattress topper would be a welcome investment.
