We had several good meals at the local pub where we found the staff welcoming and friendly .

  • "We have just left raceside farm and felt compelled to let you know about the state of the property."

Problems: Wc on landing to the left doesn't flush right, handle is also broken. Some Windows downstairs (kitchen and hallway) don't open No instructions for thermostat Leather sofa in living room (right hand side) is broken. Blind in living room is broken, fell on our head. A lot of damp in multiple rooms- in living room on wall where fireplace is and in bedroom directly above living room. No blinds in attic so we were woken up at 4am Sink in the downstairs shower doesn't drain Mirror in 1st bedroom at top of stairs is broken Main gate to property is also broken No doors lock in the house I.e bathrooms Light broken in attic room with single beds in Double bed in attic needs replacing and is incredibly worn, as are single beds in attic too. WiFi was very very poor. House was generally unclean, all carpets covered in peoples and dog hairs and felt unsanitary. Lots of cobwebs and dead flies around. Smelt very damp Shower in main bathroom is incredibly seized so couldn't turn cold. Hot water in the house is scolding from every tap. When paying over £1500 to rent somewhere, we would expect the property to be top speck, the property really does have a lot of potential but it would seem that the house has not been updated since first renting out which is just not acceptable when charging such a high premium.

  • "Loved Raceside Cottage."

Old building so don't expect all mod cons but our family loved it. If you don't mind walking for half hour / 40mins you'll have a beautiful beach all to yourself. Could have been better equipped with basics like hand wash and a toaster that worked but overall we had a great holiday and Roger, the owner, was very helpful with his info and very patient when we arrived late at night and I had to call him for directions.

  • "We had a wonderful extended family holiday at this charming house."

The period features, high ceilings and quirky decor made the house feel luxurious but we felt comfortable and at home. However, It wasn’t so perfect that I was worried about everything the children touched in case they broke it - if that makes sense? The size of the building meant seven adults, two children and two dogs fitted comfortably. We loved eating together around the big dining room table and the radio in the kitchen was on from morning to night resulting in several singalongs! My personal highlight - the huge bath. We visited many of the local attractions following the owner’s recommendations and were not disappointed in any of them. Silecroft beach was very quiet if you walked a little way and was perfect for my reactive, anxious rescue dog to get some off lead runs. If I was being picky the sofas in the main living room are getting past their best and the driveway and garden could do with a tidy up as the outside space doesn’t match the quality of the inside space. That said, we had a great Easter egg hunt and we all spent a lot of time outside in the sunshine painting pebbles which we left in the garden and I wouldn’t hesitate to return. I go away on cottage breaks regularly with the dog and am sorry that this place is too big and expensive for just the two of us for a week as I would happily return.

The house is very spacious and beautiful throughout. The area it is in is prefect. So many things to do. Would definitely return. The owner was very helpful providing information on local walks and attractions.

  • "Beautiful property."

.... Unfortunately the fridge is too small for a large party. Owner seemed very pleasant when we spoke and said he would email some information about the area and amenities but never did. Mattress in largest bedroom on first floor was like sleeping on bed of straw and car parking was a nightmare because of scaffolding around outbuilding. Real fire in lounge was lovely but would have thought that wood would be provided for the amount we paid for the cottage. Cooking trays in kitchen were a lot to be desired..... Would have thought that owners could afford to replace them regularly....... Didn't give a good impression of hygiene. Don't like to be negative... Just honest...... Beautiful property but unlikely to visit again...... You did ask for feedback!!!!!

  • "We had a fantastic week, Raceside Farm is a lovely house, with all the home comforts."

It is well proportioned, really niceley presented and perfect for two families, with kids and dogs. There were lovely walks to the beach with the dogs and within easy reach of the delights of the national park. We would highly recommend for families or groups of friends.

  • "Fortunately we were the first to arrive so we had time to vacuum around before our family arrived."

We come from a country house and accept a few flies but the cottage was amass of flies and spiders webs catching them, a thorough clean is suggested prior to visitors arriving. The local pub/restaurant had been shut down for 12 months before and was one of the main reasons for selecting Race Farm. The outside area was very restricted and not large enough for 10 of us. The upstairs bedroom doesn't have blinds on the velux windows so we were awake very early every morning. Overall very disappointed with the price we paid. Hope this helps you rectify things to improve future holiday visitors. Kind regards Nigel Thornton

  • "We had a wonderful time at Raceside Farm, the house is beautiful, clean and much bigger than it looks in the pictures, there was enough space for people to gather together or relax separately and the outdoor tables meant we had some wonderful meals in the sunshine and summer evenings."

We have already recommended this house to our friends and hope to come back some day. Roger was so friendly and gave us lots of good tips on things to do locally- the beach is only 30 minutes down the lane and basically private as no one else was around.

  • "This rustic rural farmhouse met all expectations."

Very spacious for a large family. Lovely huge kitchen for family meals together and a dining room, that we did not use. The family lounge has an open fire, where the family can relax together. Opposite is a smaller lounge where one can relax quietly and perhaps read a book. 3 Comfortable large double bedrooms on the firsrt floor with a beautiful bathroom with roll top bath, shower, toilet and two hand basins. Opposite the bathroom is a seperate WC On the second floor is yet another double bedroom and 2 single beds on the mezzanine. Outside is a large field where the dogs loved to romp and play before their big walks in the countryside. Plenty of beautiful countryside walks close by. We as a family had an amazing week together in this grand old farmhouse and would reccomend it as a perfect relaxing get-away!

  • "The house is beautiful!"

Roger the owner called us the night before we were due and was extremely informative about the local area and what there was to do. He then emailed everything so we had it all to hand. The neighbours in the area were extremely welcoming and again told us about the local area. The house itself was spotless and each room had beautiful views. It is a very traditional farm house but each room was lovely. There is a very friendly horse next door with whom our children loved going to visit every morning and evening and the owner was so kind in talking to our children and letting them play in the horse field. Raceside farm is a good hour from most of the attractions and on very windy roads which wasn’t great but that’s something that can’t be helped but I would say you definately need a car to be able to get around. There is a lovely pub/restaurant and play park less than a minutes walk from the house. Thank you so much to Roger and Skye’s Cottages for a wonderful break away!

  • "We had a great stay at Raceside Cottage, it was a great base for exploring the area but could do with some maintenance that would have greatly improved the stay."

Both garden benches were broken on one side so we were unable to use them to enjoy the great weather at the beginning of the week. Few bits missing from kitchen that would have been useful for example oven gloves and a corkscrew. We could not find the games that were mentioned in the listing. However, it was a good stay overall and we would use the cottage again. Great views from the front bedrooms.

  • "A very comfortable house in a peaceful area."

Would recommend to families as there is plenty of room and I am sure children will love the attic bedrooms. The bathrooms and bedrooms are beautifully styled and the views from the windows are over lush countryside. The pub is a few strides away where we enjoyed good meals; suggest booking before travelling as it gets busy at the weekend. The coastline has lots of lovely little beaches and walks, and the nearest at Silecroft has a friendly beach café; our favourite treat was an ice cream and a milkshake and they do good breakfasts. Another fab café is The Byre in the village of Bootle. This has a woodburner and casual seating and even a gift shop, and of course they serve great food!
