  • "The first day we stayed at the property was beyond amazing!"

It was very comfortable! Richard was extremely helpful and took good care of us. The second day, the whole ceiling & roof fell down Due to poor maintenance. We contacted the sykes team and owner and they responded after 4-5 hours. We still had a day left for our trip, we had to move out immediately. We have NOT A RECEIVED ANY REFUND. Neither did they relocated us! PATHETIC SERVICE! NEVER BOOKING WITH THIS WEBSITE AGAIN. Air bnb has been so helpful & i have had such good experiences this is just insane.

  • "Despite the inconvenience of not having hot water available for the majority of the time, the overall experience at the place was quite impressive."

It was a dream-like location with many positive aspects. However, one downside was that it was extremely cold, even with the radiators switched on. Despite all this, Richard, the person in charge, was truly amazing. He went out of his way to make sure that we were comfortable and had everything we needed. His exceptional customer service and dedication to our satisfaction made a significant impact on our experience.

  • "We had four days at Deer Rise."

The views are amazing! The property was warm, clean and comfortable it had everything we needed. The owner has used quality furnishings and has displayed some lovely art work on the walls. The decor was nice however some areas were in need of a freshen up. The shower in the en-suite in the master bedroom was the only thing that could do with replacing. We received a welcome pack which could have had a little more thought put in to it, maybe some local produce instead of supermarket stuff, this would have complemented the high end finish and reflected the cost of the property. Sometimes it's the little things that make all the difference. The log burner was a treat. Even though there is a garage near by selling logs, it would have been nice to have a starter pack available to buy when booking or a log store on site with an honesty box. The information folder was a little confusing as it had three sets of arrival and departure information sheets all of which said different things, maybe remove the old ones.

Lovely clean place, spacious, comfortable. Amazing views! The kitchen was well stocked and the bathrooms clean and modern. The beds were comfortable and the garden was huge with fabulous views. Would definitely recommend a stay here!

  • "My experience of the property was very good but marred by the steps into it, they are little more than a fire escape and are very steep and we were not warned of them consequently it was very difficult for us to take shopping and suitcases and particularly with my knees requireing attention I nearly had to cancel on the first day."

The steps made it difficult to take of food or drink onto the lawn as they had to be navigated with a tray and that was extremely Difficult things could be done but at cost the property was adequate but for the access problems. I would say it is not suitable for elderly people or persons with any form of difficulty in climbing or balance or carrying

Thank you for your feedback. We're so sorry your expectations were disappointed, and it's well worth your bringing this to wider attention. The external steps up to Deer Rise do indeed make it unsuitable for anyone with mobility issues of any kind and also make it less easy to access the garden - particularly if guests wish to carry food and drinks there. There is a photo on the website that clearly show the steps but it's an issue we will in future indicate more clearly in the description. Property Owner

  • "Deer rise no longer has access to the hot tub which was the main reason we booked the accommodation, we were not advised of this prior to our arrival."

The owner stated this was the case from May 2022 and the housekeeper advised from August 2022 so contradicting information. There were flies (dead and alive) all over the house, the en-suite shower didn’t stay hot and the pressure was terrible, no logs left for the log burning fire.

We're sorry you were disappointed about the hot tub. As I advised during your stay; this is something you need to pursue with Sykes as they had assured me all guests affected had been offered alternative accommodation or a price reduction. I'm glad we were able to offer you one day's sole use of the tub. As described in the visitor handbook, as a rural property we can get higher numbers of spiders, flies etc from the fields and woods around and offer to come and deal with these for you if you contact us at the time. Thank you for letting me know about the shower. It sounds as if the safety cutout is kicking in too early and I can now contact an electrician to look at it. Property Owner

  • "Very nice and stylish property in a very lovely location next to the lake."

Very well equipped kitchen and very well kept throughout. A few minor bits of improvement would be to improve the detail of the listing (Nespresso machine so people can bring pods in advance, hair dryer etc) as well as to provide some basic toiletries which would match the general feel of the place (luxurious)!

Thank you for your lovely feedback and helpful comments. We will add the Nespresso machine to the property description and are upgrading the toiletries and visitor packs. I'm not sure why you didn't find the hair dryer - guests do sometimes leave them in unusual places! Property Owner

  • "There were both negatives and positives with this accommodation."

Overall our stay did not meet the description or expectations. The reason we chose this accommodation was the images looked very grande and stunning. Although the outdoor area was absolutely beautiful, the indoors did not meet the standards. The first two bathrooms aren’t advertised for a reason- very outdated. None of the bathrooms/ toilets had windows that you could open the toilet window was sealed shut. We were given 3 toilet rolls for 4 days between 5 of us. The en-suite looked pleasant however the showers lack power. I also ran a bath and as suggested you can boost the hot water but this didn’t work and we had to boil the kettle quit e a few times. There were also a couple of towels that didn’t look completely clean. Another reason we chose this accommodation were for the facilities- bbq which was covered in rust, not well maintained and dirty therefore we didn’t not use it. We got to enjoy the hot tub for one evening which was the best part of the stay. Stunning views and lovely sunset. However in the book and a notice by the hot tub said this is not for our use (deer rise) which the owner also said after we complained saying why are we concerned about something we shouldn’t be using. Although this was a surprise and shock to us as this is advertised multiple times on the booking which the owner was aware of. We all actually swapped beds each night as none of the mattresses were comfortable, none of us slept well during our stay. Polar opposites from one being springy and the other being very firm. A positive was the main bedroom was stunning and lovely views of the outdoor area and lake. There was no welcome pack on arrival which we also complained about to which the owner said ‘we usually leave some teas and coffee but other guests sometimes take them’ and apologised but did not bother to correct this. There was no tray in the fridge so we had occasions where our milk was leaking. The cleanliness was average with some cutlery having food stuck on them and a mug with coffee at the bottom. No oil, essentials were provided other then cleaning products and hand wash. No matches or fire wood were provided so we literally had ti go out and buy everything! The lounge was probably the best area with good wifi, netflix and a sociable area for dinner, tv and games. I know it seems there are a lot of negative we have picked out, which some seem small but when it eventually builds up it became not great value for money and it didn’t feel like a holiday in the end as we’re very disappointed and didn’t feel like there was any nice finishing touches. We have been to plenty of air bnbs/ accommodations which have all been consistent and cared for there guests experience. But on this occasion unfortunately this didn’t feel like the case and would not therefore recommend this accommodation.

Hi There, Thank you for your feedback, we are completing maintenance at Deer rise in the bathroom and extending the patio area professionally to allow more outside gathering space. We are also resolving the hot water issue, it does get got but can take a little longer than normal to get to its max temperature. Following your review we have now made many improvements and have even taken on a new team to help out with any issues. Kind regards Property Owner

  • "Its a very lovely cottage, and a great location - there was no welcome pack and none of the high-chair or travel cot were laid out for us as requested, which was a shame, but they were at least in the cottage."

We're so sorry you didn't receive the welcome we customarily promise and leave for guests. Thank you so much for letting us know as we will take this up with the housekeeper in order to prevent disappointment for future guests. Property Owner

  • "Lovely apartment - very spacious and felt very very comfortable especially the bedrooms."

Well equipped kitchen: Gorgeous garden, views and amazing strolls nearby including access to Windermere lakeside. Took 24hours to warm up, feeling very cold when we first arrived. Managed to buy some fire wood for 2nd evening which made sitting room much more comfortable to sit in.

Thank you for your feedback. We're so glad you had such a good time, and sorry that your first night was cold. We're now leaving a supply of logs/kindling etc for the first night and asking the housekeeper to keep the radiators switched on between bookings. Property Owner

  • "We had a fabulous holiday at Deer rise, great location, great house and wonderful facilities."

Our only issue was we couldn’t get the bath plug to work and the showers should be a better quality to match the rest of the house. Small things and feeding back so it can be improved for future customers.

I'm so glad you had a great holiday. Thank you for your feedback. I'm sorry you couldn't get the bath plug to work; we've now replaced this. We also take on board your comments about the house bathroom - it is due for an upgrade this year to bring it up to the same standard as the rest of the house. Property Owner
