  • "We had a lovely holiday at Clough Cottage, the neighbours made us feel very welcome."

The cottage has amazing views and there is so much to do in the area, or pop over the border into Yorkshire as we did. Bowland Brewery which is nearby is worth a visit too. Great communication with the owners, who also left us a welcome pack. We loved it so much that we've already booked to go back again! (Hope the weather is as glorious as last week)

Thank you Angela for such a lovely review! We’re really pleased you enjoyed the house and the surrounding area which is amazing, delighted to have you book again so soon and look forward to welcoming you and the family back again. Property Owner

  • "This is a perfect holiday home and would certainly come back again (very well equipped)."

The views at the back of the cottage were stunning. Neighbours on both sides of the property were kind and friendly (no noise). The village has everything we needed and two good pubs. We had some lovely family days out locally and our 4 year old son was kept amused at: Thornton Hall, Mrs Dowsons (great ice cream), Clitheroe Castle, Bowlands wild boar park and of course Blackpool zoo! If you want a special meal out try: Breda Murphy Restaurant (lovely food and friendly staff). This is a lovely part of the UK to stay. We found it very quiet particularly on a School holiday week.

Thank you Lianne for the great feedback, we’re delighted you enjoyed the house and surrounding area. We hope you’ll be back! Property Owner

  • "We would highly recommend this cottage, it was perfect for what we needed."

The facilities and design were all modern, clean and easy to use. The view looking out towards the back of the property from the patio was amazing. Location was good, some great local walks are available with two good local pubs for those looking for a drink or bite to eat. Clitheroe and Whalley are only only a short drive away.

Thank you for your great feedback, we’re really glad you enjoyed the house and hope you’ll come and stay again. Property Owner

  • "The newly renovated property is tastefully decorated and well appointed with high quality fixtures, fittings and linen."

It is left spotlessly clean for visitors and the owners clearly care to make this new venture a success; checking in at the beginning and end of your stay to ensure all is well. The views from this property are sublime. In terms of location, it is a walker's paradise; walks along the River Ribble, through the Trough of Bowland and across Pendle are on your doorstep. There are plenty of great places to eat such as Northcote (if you fancy something high class) or the Aspinall Arms where you can eat homely food with meats supplied by the local farmers. This place is perfectly positioned for access to Preston, Blackburn, Burnley and Clitheroe. Our family of 4, had a wonderful stay and will happily return.

Thank you Sam for the wonderful comments, we’re delighted you and your family enjoyed the house and the lovely area. We’d love to have you visit again! Property Owner

  • "A lovely stay at Christmas."

Firstly walking in to see the owners had bothered to put some Christmas decorations up and a tree was a really thoughtful touch. The welcome pack was also welcome! We had a text from the owners before we arrived advising us to contact them if there was anything we needed. We didn’t need to, but I felt if we did there would have been a speedy response. The place is as described. It was clean, and the bedding and towels were high quality. Plenty of crockery, cutlery, mugs and glasses. Again high quality. Enough serving dishes, wooden spoons, pans etc. The area is lovely, great walks and views. We will be back! The Petley family

  • "Brilliant little cottage, we really enjoyed our stay."

Had everything we needed and more. The views are wonderful and the property was very clean. The welcome pack was a lovely touch with wine, milk, tea, coffee, jam, biscuits and croissants. There are so many walks around here, one we loved was Whitewell Stepping Stones. We also had a day out to the Lake District and enjoyed Coniston Waters. Just be aware the main bedroom is right on the main road through the village, so you can be woken early by traffic if a light sleeper. But other than that we had a wonderful time!

Thank you for your recent feedback. We are pleased to read you had a good time and hope to host you again. We have taken onboard your comments and will make it clear the bedroom is close to a village road, kinds regards Sykes Cottages Property Owner

  • "So glad that I found this gem of a holiday home!"

It's set in a lovely village which is a hub for outdoor activity. The house itself is well resourced and felt a real 'home from home'. I was especially relieved by the different pillow options which meant that everyone slept well. The views from the large bifold windows were wonderful and once you become familiar with the area it is possible to pick out landmarks. For an active family holiday this is perfectly located. We walked the Tolkien Trail from the front door and cycled both locally and on the trails of Gisborne Forest and around Bolton Abbey. For a quiet get away trip, I would highly recommend it as it is not heaving with tourists like the neighbouring Lake District. Clitheroe is worth visiting for the castle and Everyman cinema. Additionally, the Holmes Mill Food Hall is a real treat for foodies! There are numerous other local pubs which serve great food in fabulous settings. All in all we would recommend the Ribble Valley as a super holiday destination. To stay at 3 Clough Cottages was the icing on the cake!

  • "What can I say, the place was incredible and absolutely immaculate."

First class furnishings and had everything we needed and more. The village is picturesque and everyone was so friendly and welcoming. We visited local areas like Clitheroe Castle and had a trip to St. Anne’s and ate at the local restaurants which were beautiful. We had a lovely family holiday and I’d go back in a heartbeat. Highly recommended

About the location

HURST GREEN

Stonyhurst 1.3 miles; Ribchester 3.6 miles; Clitheroe 5.3 miles.

Hurst Green is a small village in the Ribble Valley district of Lancashire, England, connected in its history to the Jesuit school, Stonyhurst College. The village is 5 miles (8 km) from Longridge and 4 miles (6 km) from Clitheroe, and is close to the River Ribble, near its junction with the River Hodder. Many areas in the UK claim to have inspired J.R.R Tolkien's creation of middle earth but the author certainly spent a lot of his time at Stonyhurst College working on The Lord of the Rings during the Second World War. Many have found connections with this landscape around the college and the 5.5 mile Tolkien Trail explores the Ribble Valley that may have inspired him. Walk in the footsteps of author J.R.R. Tolkien who regularly stayed at Stonyhurst College in the Ribble Valley. J.R.R. Tolkien was renowned for his love of nature and wooded landscapes and the countryside around Stonyhurst is richly beautiful. A number of names which occur in 'The Lord of The Rings' are similar to those found locally including Shire Lane (in Hurst Green) and River Shirebourn.
