  • "We felt the cottage was perfect."

With 5 adults we all wanted our own wash/toilet facilities, which were excellent. The bedrooms were very comfortable, allowing good sleep. Lounge, eating area was more than adequate. We do not have any negatives. Thank you to the owners who have thought of visitors needs/comforts providing such within a nicely decorated home. The area is lovely to explore, or to just chill.

Thank you for your comments Jenny, it’s really good to know you found the cottage welcoming and comfortable for you all. We aim to provide a home from home and glad it lived up to that for you all. Property Owner

Cottage was really comfy and plenty of equipment available to keep us going. Cottage is in a great position for getting around with trips out to Garstang, Lytham St. Anne’s, Lytham, and Stydd Gardens. Shireburn Arms and Aspinall Arms were great for food, as was Millie’s Cafe just a short walk away. Stonyhurst College was also worth a visit and again just a short walk from the cottage.

Thanks Stephen, delighted you enjoyed the cottage and the surrounding area. We have many amazing eateries within a short walk or drive, glad you tried some of them. Hopefully you’ll come back sometime. Property Owner

We enjoyed having a large kitchen-dining room and an additional sitting room. There are great views over the countryside and some fabulous walks close by with a good pub within a short walking distance. We appreciated the welcome text from the owners who gave us their mobile number should we need it - all very welcoming and reassuring. We will be returning to both this cottage and this corner of Lancashire. It is a beautiful place for walking with interesting villages and towns close-by.

  • "This was an excellent choice."

The cottage is in a really nice village in a great area for touring and visiting interesting places. Or walking in the countryside if that’s your thing. On entering the cottage you are struck by the size, cleanliness and extremely well presented furniture and equipment. It really is a first class property. There were five of us and we used the three bedrooms and three bathrooms! We were all impressed with our rooms and everyone found the beds to be sooo comfortable. The lounge was so inviting for our cosy evenings together. There was a welcome pack - what can I say - this was well over and above any expectations. The secure parking for two cars in the gated area was reassuring. Would we recommend this property, yes, yes, yes.

The main kitchen and dining area was very well equipped and had a large walk in utility room. The separate large lounge with its two comfortable sofas, three lamps and large TV was a very relaxing space to chill in the evenings. It's set in a lovely village which is a hub for outdoor activity. The house itself is well resourced and felt a real 'home from home'. I was especially relieved by the different pillow options which meant that everyone slept well. The views from the large bifold windows were wonderful and once you become familiar with the area it is possible to pick out landmarks. For an active family holiday this is perfectly located. We walked the Tolkien Trail from the front door and cycled both locally and on the trails of Gisborne Forest and around Bolton Abbey. For a quiet get away trip, I would highly recommend it as it is not heaving with tourists like the neighbouring Lake District. Clitheroe is worth visiting for the castle and Everyman cinema. Additionally, the Holmes Mill Food Hall is a real treat for foodies! There are numerous other local pubs which serve great food in fabulous settings. All in all we would recommend the Ribble Valley as a super holiday destination. To stay at 3 Clough Cottages was the icing on the cake!

About the location

HURST GREEN

Stonyhurst 1.3 miles; Ribchester 3.6 miles; Clitheroe 5.3 miles.

Hurst Green is a small village in the Ribble Valley district of Lancashire, England, connected in its history to the Jesuit school, Stonyhurst College. The village is 5 miles (8 km) from Longridge and 4 miles (6 km) from Clitheroe, and is close to the River Ribble, near its junction with the River Hodder. Many areas in the UK claim to have inspired J.R.R Tolkien's creation of middle earth but the author certainly spent a lot of his time at Stonyhurst College working on The Lord of the Rings during the Second World War. Many have found connections with this landscape around the college and the 5.5 mile Tolkien Trail explores the Ribble Valley that may have inspired him. Walk in the footsteps of author J.R.R. Tolkien who regularly stayed at Stonyhurst College in the Ribble Valley. J.R.R. Tolkien was renowned for his love of nature and wooded landscapes and the countryside around Stonyhurst is richly beautiful. A number of names which occur in 'The Lord of The Rings' are similar to those found locally including Shire Lane (in Hurst Green) and River Shirebourn.
