“This is a lovely cottage but ...”

This is a lovely cottage but unfortunately although tidy it was not clean at all.the owner lives on-site, about 20 ft from the front door which it doesn’t tell you when you book it & had we known we would not have. The cottage is full of the owners belongings including a wedding dress in the wardrobe of the master bedroom & children’s stuff on all the shelves in the kitchen also a box of personal stuff of the children’s at the front door. The dining chairs have certainly seen better days ...

The dining chairs have certainly seen better days as they were ripped and torn, the aga was absolutely filthy, it was really warm weather so didn’t use it which meant we had 2 electric rings and an electric oven to cook for 9 people!!! Also we were inundated with flies which being close to a couple of farms is fair enough but there should be something in place especially in the kitchen as they were landing on every surface & food stuff making it virtually impossible to even butter a slice of toast at breakfast.we also ran out of hot water one night and had to ask the owner to turn it back on.we were there a week and the hot tub was not cleaned once even after being told it would be done daily!! So we couldn’t use it the last 3days as there was a foam gathering on top of the water. We loved the beautiful scenery & the surrounding area, the local village of Slaidburn is beautiful and the locals very friendly. We will definitely holiday in this area again but never at Dean Slack Head.
