“On the good side: 1: Limestone Cottage is in a good location.”

2: The accommodation was perfect for us. 3: We loved the log burner, it made the house feel very cosy so we had it lit every evening. 4: Thank you for providing binoculars, they were very useful. 5: We loved the games that were provided. 6: There are great pubs close by - the Hare and Hounds in the village and the Wheatsheaf in Brigsteer are a couple of examples. 7: Thank you for providing compost bins. On the down side. Constructive criticism: 1: Please provide recent maps not just geographical ones. 2: Please tidy up the the corner saucepan cupboard. It was such a mess and doesn’t take much time to tidy it up and give a much better impression. I left it as I would like to find it. 3: Clean under the coffee table. When we moved it to give us more room to play Jenga we found quite a selection of items. 4: Providing the number of firelights for each evening would be a good gesture as many guests probably don’t have a log burner at home to use them on. As we are South Africa we didn’t need them as we are experienced in lighting barbecues with kindling and newspaper but I would think most of your guests would use firefighters. 5: Please provide recycling bags like your neighbours 2 doors away. Recycling is very important to us so we ended up taking our recycling items home as I couldn’t bare to put them in your general waste bin. I am aware of the story you gave us about recycling at the cottage but it’s cost saving to have separate recycling bags. 6: I’m sure there’s not much you can do about it but the barking dogs are annoying. Maybe you’ve been renting out Limestone Cottage for a long time but I think these few points would make It even more attractive and delightful.

The property

A cottage built from the local stone, Limestone Cottage is tucked away in the peaceful and tranquil south-eastern corner of the Lake District within walking distance of a local pub and just six miles from Kendal. Combining traditional country cottage character with contemporary style, this character cottage sleeps two and is ideal for a small family or as a romantic getaway. Step inside from the pretty village of Levens and you enter a living/dining room that maintains all its character charm with beams and a wood burning stove but provides plenty of comfortable seating and a Freeview TV with Blu-ray player.

There's a fully equipped Shaker style kitchen and a downstairs WC.

Upstairs are the two bright and comfortable bedrooms, one double and one single, both sharing a modern bathroom with bathtub, shower over, wash basin and WC. Step outside into the charming garden with its raised deck and you'll find the perfect place to sit and have a drink whilst the sun goes down.

It's a really peaceful and tranquil oasis for a warm summer's evening.

There's also off-road parking and secure storage for your bikes in the outhouse. Levens is a lovely limestone village in the tranquil countryside of the southern Lake District but there's so much to see and do within easy reach of the doorstep.

Elizabethan Levens Hall is a short walk away, as is medieval Sizergh Castle.

There is a pub with good food and a shop in the village, while vibrant and bustling Kendal with its independent shops, bars, restaurants and retail parks is just six miles away. Although Limestone Cottage is easily accessible from the M6, it's a world away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

While Limestone Cottage is ideally situated for walks from the relaxing to the energetic, and there are cycle trails from outside the front door, it's also an ideal base for exploring the South Lakes.

Kendal and the lovely coastal resort of Arnside are within very easy reach, while popular destinations like Lake Windermere with its famous steamer cruises and Hawkshead, home of the Drunken Duck Inn, are a short drive away.

Whether you're a history lover, a steam train enthusiast, a keen walker and cyclist or a gourmand, the Lake District is a must-see destination. Combining period charm and modern comfort.

Limestone Cottage is the ideal base for your exploration of the Lake District, Cumbrian coast and Yorkshire Dales, whatever the time of year.
