    “Family Weekend Away.”

Recently returned from a short break at the cottage. ...

Recently returned from a short break at the cottage. The owners directs were great & very easy to follow and obtaining the keys was very straight forward. We were a little disappointed with the 5pm checkin time but appreciate extra cleaning is required during the current Covid crisis. The parking space allocated to the cottage is a little tight especially with a large van parked in the adjacent space but thankfully there are visitor spaces which you can park in so it wasn’t an issue. The cottage is well appointed and full of character and ideal for a family or 3/4. We visited the local village pub the Royal Oak one evening for food and it was fantastic and only a short 10 minute walk away (Up hill) The cottage is well situated and only a short drive from Grand Over Sands which has all your usual local amenities and it is only 15/20 drive from Lake Windermere which is well worth a visit. Communication with the owner was very straight forward and he was lovely and friendly. This is an ideal base for a small family to explore the surrounding area and we will definitely consider returning in the future.

The property

This character cottage is nestled in an award-winning development in the village of Lindale, on the edge of the Edwardian town of Grange-over-Sands.

Barn Owl Cottage offers lovely accommodation and makes an ideal base for families and small groups of friends for exploring the fells and lakes of the Lake District, with Lake Windermere less than 5 miles away.

This superb cottage offers two bedrooms, along with a modern bathroom on the ground floor.

Upstairs, the open plan living area has a high-vaulted ceiling with original beams, together with comfy sofas to relax in after a day out exploring this lovely part of Cumbria.

Outside is an enclosed garden with patio furniture, perfect for taking advantage of warm weather during the gentler months.

Just up the road there is a shop and Post Office and a few further minutes walk away is a good pub serving food.

A short drive from the cottage is Grange-over-Sands, which has lots of interesting shops and restaurants including specialist bakers, chocolatiers and butchers.

The parade close to the railway station has some excellent tea rooms, so why not enjoy brunch before jumping on the train to cross Morecambe Bay to explore Arnside and Silverdale which are in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

With the beautiful village of Cartmel and the Foulshaw Moss Nature Reserve close by, there is something for everyone.

Being within the Lake District National Park, a little further afield, there is a host of villages including Hawkshead, Ambleside and Bowness-on-Windermere to enjoy.

Whenever and whatever the weather, this lovely cottage will be a great place to stay at any time of the year.

About the location

LINDALE

Grange-over-Sands 2 miles; Cartmel 3.6 miles; Windermere 12 miles.

Lindale, a small village situated in the south of The Lake District National Park, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and just a few miles from Lake Windermere, makes the area a perfect holiday destination. Set amidst the charm of The Southern Lakes, this attractive village, with handy gastropub, The Royal Oak, makes an inspiring choice from which to enjoy the whole of this magical area. Just a few minutes drive brings you to Cartmel, a delightful village to wander around, famed for its delicious sticky toffee pudding, 12th century priory, National Hunt race meetings and gourmet restaurants. You could also visit Grange-over-Sands, a charming seaside Edwardian town. Take a stroll on the promenade and return through the quaint narrow streets with some lovely tea rooms and specialist shops including a bakery, chocolatiers, and award winning butchers. The Lake District has so much to offer, there is sailing on Windermere, cycling in The Grizedale Forest, Go Ape Treetop adventures, Birdwatching at Leighton Moss and The Foulshaw Osprey Experience. There are also stately homes at Holker Hall, Levens Hall and Sizergh Castle and a heritage steam railway which runs from Haverthwaite to Lakeside. The Arnside and Silverdale Area of Outstanding Beauty is also a short journey away. But leaving the best till last, walking or touring in the fabulous Lake District, with its fells, lakes and tarns is an absolute must, most of which is just a short drive or walk away.
