    Even though you are in the middle of a town it never once felt busy. It was super convenient having the high street a stones throw away, made up of quaint shops and brilliant food (book well in advance for The Black Bull - you will not regret it). If staying on a Wednesday you should definitely visit the local market 8:30am-midday, I would strongly recommend buying from the Thai stall, as well as the sausage rolls from the butchers stall. The cottage was nicely finished and felt very cosy, has everything you need and want. Even thought the kitchen is small, it is fully equipment and easy to make a meal for a couple. The bed was super comfortable along with the huge sofa. The views into the court yard were so picturesque you could easily read a book here. Plenty of decent hikes straight from the doorstep, Howgills to Cautley spout was brilliant. You are also only a 35-40 minute drive from the Yorkshire Three Peaks. Furthermore, the Lakes are a similar distance away, we visited Windermere and kayaked on the Lake. Overall I would 100% recommend this cottage. Luke & Beth

About the location

SEDBERGH

Kendal 12 miles; Hawes 15 miles.

Sedbergh (pronounced Sed-Ber), set at the foot of the dramatic and wild Howgill Fells, is an ancient market town in northern Dentdale. Sedbergh is situated just inside the Yorkshire Dales National Park and is only 12 miles from the Lake District National Park. The town, with its narrow streets, little shops, traditional pubs, famous school dating back to 1525 and its 12th century church, has an olde worlde atmosphere. Leading from Sedbergh is Dentdale, the jewel of the Yorkshire Dales with its rolling hills and dry stone walls, stretching 14 miles from the windswept moors below Whernside to the confluence of the Rivers Dee and Rawthey. At the centre of the dale is Dent, with its cobbled streets, which has existed since Norman times and nearby Dent railway station is on the renowned Settle-Carlisle railway line. There are three golf courses nearby, as well as tennis, riding, and fishing, and the area is a paradise for walkers, ramblers, runners and cyclists. This, together with the tranquillity of the surrounding valleys, the two National Parks and it being England's book town, makes an ideal year-round holiday destination.
