  • "A lovely stay in a well located cottage, the cottage was welcoming and inviting."

Upon arrival, there was some milk, tea and coffee provided which was a nice gesture. The cottage is a great base for walking and a visit to Malham to see the cove and Janet’s Foss. After a 12 mile walk, Dyson House is a great place to come home and relax. There were a few areas which could be improved, the kitchen was lacking some utensils such as small sharp knives for chopping and the oven door was faulty as it struggled to close. The hinge on the left hand side is not secured in properly which caused problems during the stay. Another minor issue, was that in some areas of the home there are damp spots where wallpaper is starting to peel, which is something to watch in the future. Overall, we had a really enjoyable stay at Dyson House and would consider this cottage to stay in the future.

  • "A few minor things that wld have made the stay even better: *There is a problem with the oven door."

We were really worried we'd break it as no clear way to close it. *The living and dining rooms were very dark and cold have done with more side lights. *The hall down to the front door (which we didn't use at all) could do with coat hooks as we piled the bench high with coats.

  • "A lovely stay in this we’ll presented property, there was plenty of room for our large party (8 plus a baby and a dog)."

Slightly limited space in the 3rd double was tricky for those with mobility issues. The property is on a busy road, but the double glazing effectively blocks the noise. Great access to the village railway station.

  • "We love this part of Yorkshire and our stay in the area was amazing."

The kitchen was well equipped and all rooms were a good size with many original features. There were plenty of games which kept our daughter entertained! The road noise did spoil our stay somewhat and we did not find the living room furniture particularly comfortable. For such a high nightly price we would have expected a few more ‘extras’.

  • "Had a lovely stay at Dyson House."

It was spacious, and well located to allow us to explore North Yorkshire. The beds were very comfy, and there were nice decorative touches around the house to make us feel at home. Brochures of local tourist attractions helped us plan our week, and there was a good-sized TV and some board games for when we returned in the evening. Highly recommended.

  • "Great house, perfectly suited to our family's needs and very helpful owners who helped us immediately when there was a boiler issue."

Quirky, interesting and very comfortable beds. Kitchen was very well equipped with more than everything supplied. Only tiny criticism would be that there was quite a build up of dust under the beds (only noticed due to children putting their bags under the beds). But, overall, a fantastic stay and we'd definitely go back - would have liked to have stayed longer but couldn't due to work and only needed it for the weekend for completing the Yorkshire Three Peaks. Thank you very much!

  • "It would appear that certain aspects of the property need to be upgraded."

A well appointed kitchen. On suite shower looked a little shabby. Lack of cupboard space in some bedrooms. The garden was poorly maintained and the on-line description suggested the garden was at the back of the house. We had to cross the parking space to get to the garden. Despite this we enjoyed our stay at Dyson House.

  • "Lovely house, great location for exploring the area and very handy for the train station."

The noise from the road is quite prominent when sleeping in the front bedrooms as I think this is a main route.

  • "The property should be identified by a sign on the rear door , there is more than one key safe in the parking area & we were helped out by a friendly neighbour ."

We think that much more emphasis should be placed on access & egress , it should be explained more that is much easier & safer when arriving from or departing to Skipton that it is best practice to head toward the Maypole inn & turn around the green . In fairness it does say in the property notes on line that the entrance angle is tight arriving from Skipton but the road is extremely busy & we think a more prominent message , perhaps on the door would be better .

About the location

LONG PRESTON

Settle 4 miles; Malham 4 miles; Skipton 12 miles.

Long Preston is an attractive Yorkshire Dales village in Ribblesdale, twelve miles from Skipton (popularly known as the 'Gateway to the Dales'), four miles from Settle. To the north, the landscape rises to the fells, moors and picturesque valleys of the Dales; to the south are the wetlands of the Ribble Valley which, in turn, sweep upward to the magnificent wilderness of Bowland. The village benefits from several large, tree lined, village greens, with footpaths leading direct to the surrounding hills, and it also boasts two excellent pubs with first rate cuisine. The railway station on the edge of the village provides access to the famous Settle-Carlisle Railway line which crosses some of the most beautiful and inspiring upland scenery in the country. Nearby Settle is a bustling market town with a weekly market, the centre being dominated by the Shambles, an historic 3-storey building with shops on two levels and houses above, and the Town Hall. There is a good selection of restaurants and pubs and a public swimming pool.

Note: The garden is private and belongs to the property, however it is not directly adjacent to it - it can be quickly accessed through a gate past the driveway.
