“We went to the Shippon in April 2019 with 2 children and had a great time.”
Getting to the cottage was simple, not far from the M6 at all but just enough away. It is located about 25 minutes from Preston.
The cottage itself was great, renovated to a very good standard throughout. Can’t really fault anything about it. We had a really lovely welcome gift from the owners. Hot tub was brilliant, and like the owner suggested, stargazing at night is so good there, very clear skys. Washing facilities in the garage were really handy as we were there for the week! If we were being really picky.. some of the kitchen cupboards/drawers were dirty but it was no disaster and probably just an oversight. In fact when we were there we had a problem with the lock on the front door and the owners were straight on to it and got it sorted, so nothing was too much bother.
We met and spoke with the owners, they live next door and you often see them with their dogs. They were very nice and helpful and wanted to make sure we enjoyed our stay.
We stayed for a week. Locally we went Longridge, Whalley & Clitheroe. Definitely have a trip to Clitheroe and Longridge, they have nice shops and cafes/pubs etc. Whalley was a little town with little to do. There are plenty of walks around the area and are 2 local pubs. The Derby Arms was a nice pub/restaurant and had a decent looking menu, we had some light lunch bites here and we’re disappointed however it is meant to be good for food so probably just a bad choice by us. The Alston Arms was more like a pub, although it was busy and a lot of people were eating so I would give that a go (but we didn’t). They also do take out fish and chips. We tried the Chinese takeaway in Longridge, it was okay to be fair but everybody compares takeouts to their local. We also went to a nice pub/hotel called ‘The Inn at Whitewell’, it was really nice.. I’d go there for a drink or food!
There is a sainsburys literally a 2 minute drive from the cottage and a booths further into the town. I also got the train to Manchester whilst we were there from Preston for a night out which was super easy and surprisingly cheap if your into that! I probably wouldn’t advise venturing into Preston if you are not familiar with it and looking for a ‘town’ to visit.
So to conclude. I’d go! We had a really great week, chilling, laughing, talking in a really great setting in a really nice cottage!
Thanks for everything!!
