  • "Really good setup in roomy and modern barn conversion."

We had power cut for almost a day because of storm Arwen, but the underfloor heating kept us lovely and warm through retained heat, and made us realise just how comfortable stone-floors can be. Fantastic space for 6 of us when all family were here, and great when just two of us. Thoroughly recommended.

  • "Husband myself and the pooch stayed for a week in November , WOW this cottage has been food for the soul, rural, peaceful and beautiful."

The cottage itself has everything you need , I love to cook and loved the aga. Beds and bathrooms are spotlessly clean and so comfortable, best night sleep ever Fiona the owner is a wonderful lady and kindly rescued me for torrential rain that we stupidly got caught in. Then to top it off the wallabies are lovely , I found myself saying good morning everyday. We have booked for next year and cannot wait

  • "The cottage was fantastic we took our team up there for a working week away to plan for 2022 but also to have a break as a treat."

The facilities and the location were amazing, the owner was very friendly and welcoming. There is so much space available if you're in a group and the photos do not highlight how much space there is. We will definitely be back as we really enjoyed the location, the peace and quiet of the area. Our puppy loved his trip away it is really dog friendly. It was the perfect autumn location as it was very cosy with the dark nights.

  • "Beautiful setting for this spacious, yet warm and cosy cottage with fantastic views over the valley."

An excellent position for walking - we went up PenY Gent , but for the less adventurous there is a lovely walk directly from the house.. A perfect venue for our family get- together over the half term holidays. The owner Fiona was very friendly and helpful and had provided lots of games, jigsaws etc which our family appreciated .The stone floor, with underfloor heating was great and very practical. We visited Salmersbury Hall- a free day out in an interesting historic house with a cafe and lovely play area for children. Carnforth (home of Brief Encounter museum) and Lakeside Wildlife Oasis also nearby. Gawthorpe NT house also worth a visit.

Plenty of amenities nearby with Bentham for a good selection of local shops and places for food or slightly further to Settle to Kirby Longsdale for larger supermarkets. A perfect place to relax and unwind after enjoying the local area.

  • "The Barn is very well appointed, exactly as described."

The owner lives next door and is very friendly and helpful but unobtrusive - lovely welcome and welcome pack. The unique feature, though, is the magnificent view from the back rooms and private terrace - magical. Rolling hills, Dales peaks, fields dotted with sheep, lambs and cattle, birdsong - nature at its best. The Wallabies were an added attraction for the grandchildren - such fun!

The views front and especially the rear of the property are stunning, (cute wallabies at the front!) Inside the cottage the kitchen was large with everything you could need for your stay. The lounge was very comfortable with the lovely log burner (which was well used!) 3 bathrooms and the bath in one was fantastic huge. The 3 bedrooms were spacious & plenty of storage. The whole cottage was exceptionally cleaned especially with covid etc. The owner met us on arrival and she's lovely and very helpful. If you want a quiet rural escape to the country then this is the perfect place close enough to a shop or takeaway/pub & still far enough away for quietness.

Everything we needed was provided and Fiona showed us how to use the range cooker and it was great to know the owners were nearby. The house was really warm and it took a while to get the temperature right but better too warm! We really liked being close to places to visit such a s Ingleton and Hawes and it was an easy drive to Pen Y Ghent. Using the really good train service from Bentham was a bonus and we had a great day in Saltaire. We are so glad that we chose this cottage and would happily return to explore further.

  • "Sorry it’s taken a while to post this review, we were @ Usherwoods in Nov 18."

5 people 1 large dog(American bull), plenty of room we didn’t get under each other’s feet. the accommodation/facilities were absolutely as described. Handy welcome pack & milk on arrival, a nice touch. To say how spacious the barn is it kept lovely & toasty warm, underfloor heating in the porch/front door area was a treat for the feet after kicking off (sometimes wet/muddy) walking boots. Same with showers/bath, all hot & worked a treat. Beds/pillows comfy. The main bedroom with toilet/shower has a quirky floor level/foot level window...perfect for dogs to lay & nosey out of. For us everything was clean & good. Plenty of parking outside the barn. There’s an enclosed pretty long, narrow garden, we still kept our dog leaded up as she could’ve jumped the walls/gate if she’d really wanted to. We met the lady owner who lives next to the barn but doesn’t intrude at all, she is on hand for extra logs or info on the local area etc. The grounds of the barn are lovely, great to see wallabies- our dog was very intrigued with them. We went to the Co-op in High Bentham for any supplies, it’s a 5minute drive or 3mile walk (we did walk it there & back one of the days). Would recommend & would return.

  • "We had a fantastic holiday at Usherwoods."

There are so many good points. The views from the house and garden are unbeatable (dont miss the sunsets!). The standard of fixtures and fittings are the best we have experienced in many years of English self catering cottages. The bathrooms are works of art which I would happily have in my own house. The owners are lovely and very helpful but totally unobtrusive. The surrounding villages and countryside are beautiful with far too much to see and do in one holiday and yet in half term week we felt as though we were the only holidaymakers in the area, which is why we will definitely be back!

  • "Owners were really welcoming."

The property was newly converted so a really nice place to stay and had everything we needed. Children would enjoy as owners had a number of animals on land - including wallabys!

Also close by is the traditional Yorkshire market town of High Bentham and its highest point, The Great Stone of Fourstones. A relic of the Ice Age, the stone stands on the boundary where Lancashire meets Yorkshire and has become a distinctive feature of the landscape, boasting spectacular views over the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales and the Forest of Bowland. The Yorkshire Dales National Park and the famous three peaks of Ingleborough, Whernside and Pen-y-Ghent lie just to the north, while The Forest of Bowland, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, stretches away to the south and offers a wide range of unspoilt landscapes and visitor facilities. Nearby, High Bentham boasts a range of amenities including a good variety of shops and in the surrounding area, a range of pubs and restaurants serving fine beers and good food can be found. With the market towns of Settle, Kirkby Lonsdale, Skipton and Kendal all within easy driving distance, this peaceful area has something for everyone!
