  • "Superb little cottage owned by local farming people nearby."

Excellent value for money, very clean and excellent facilities. Would have no hesitation in stopping here again. Super mattress and pillows - had trouble waking up each morning.

  • "A great cottage to stay in."

Just a couple of things: Toilet overflows with constant dribble - depth of cistern water needs adjustment; For us the settee was a bit small and uncomfortable.

  • "The cottage is clean, well appointed with a good choice of appliances and accessories."

The bed was probably the most comfortable one we have come across in the various accommodations we have rented. It has a good solar powered heating system (much needed at this time of year). The only downside is there really is not much of a view from the cottage as all you see is the back of a barn unlike the adjoining cottage which overlooks the fields.

Cottage is well equipped and has everything you need for a comfortable stay. Perfect central location for touring Lake District, Yorkshire Dales, Hadrian's Wall whilst having the beauty of the Westmoreland Dales right on the doorstep. We are already looking at dates to visit again we enjoyed it so much.

  • "This is a well designed and built barn conversion."

Equipments levels are good with high quality white goods. The king sized double bed is very comfortable. There is only one slight negative. There is only a folding dining table and two folding chairs and the only space to use it is in the hall. We did not use it and ate off trays. The situation is idyllic being slightly elevated above beautiful countryside. Its slightly outside Maulds Meaburn village and there is an excellent pub at Crosby Ravenscroft where the food and welcome is wonderful. Like most of the pubs in Cumbria and The Dales it is dog friendly. Booking is essential if your dog is with you as there are only two tables in the bar area where dogs are permitted. We also used the Shap Chippy which we can also thoroughly recommend. We spent two weeks at Peggies Barn two and loved every moment.

  • "The cottage was very clean and tidy on arrival and equipped with most items needed including washing machine and dishwasher."

The cottage was very warm and comfortable with very user friendly heating controls. Visiting the cottage late spring meant lots of sheep, lamps, rabbits etc in the adjoining rolling fields to the cottage and made the stay even better! the cottage is ideally placed as base for visiting the surrounding Lake district and or local walks from the cottage. All main shops are in Penrith and good local shops in Appleby.

  • "Plumbing of poor quality, toilet flush broke on first day."

Dog barked at something under sofa, it was filthy under there including dog treats and chews. No dining table just fold up table and chairs in cupboard with no room to put it anywhere. Not worth the very high price paid.

  • "Peggies Barn Two is a super little holiday cottage perfect for a couple to escape and chill out."

Finished off to a high standard with comfortable and modern furnishings and fixtures throughout. Located in a perfect place in the Eden Valley to access that area or the lake district. We will definitely be back to stay there again in the future. We were very unlucky during our stay that the WiFi was broken and was unable to be fixed during our stay, this meant we could not use the smart tv's which were provided in the lounge and the bedroom. We informed the owner of the problem and she got BT to come out but unfortunately it was a job that was going to require the road being dug up in the neighbouring village, it was completely out of her control and could not be helped.

  • "Good holiday in clean, comfortable cottage."

Not actually in Maulds Meaburn but about a mile out. Directions were therefore not great(should be from both directions, not just from one direction) until you put in postcode in satnav, if you have it. I think it is assumed today that everyone has( as its assumed that everyone has a computer!!). Good base to explore the area and the pubs nearby specialise and excel in excellent pie and chips.

  • "I probably won't win your prize for this feedback, but here goes."

The cottage was really good, clean, well equipped and peaceful. A bit remote, a round trip of nearly 25 miles to the nearest big food store. What got my dander up was your persistent emails asking me if I wanted to book a holiday with Sykes. Not just one a week, not just one a day but sometimes two and three times a day. I would not think of booking a holiday with your company ever again.

  • "The cottage was well furnished and very comfortable."

It was a lovely cosy cottage, the only thing that let it down was the outside patio area, it needed brightening up, there was flower tubs but they just had dead plants and weeds in them, and just 2 foldable chairs. It was a beautiful week weather wise and it was a shame we could not sit out with a patio table and chairs and enjoy the area and the weather. Just one more point which I felt was a little strange, we were asked to strip the beds and leave the dirty laundry in the hall on leaving !!!!!!

About the location

MAULDS MEABURN

Appleby-in-Westmorland 6 miles; Penrith 13 miles.

The attractive, unspoilt rural village of Maulds Meaburn in the Lyvennet Valley is ideally placed for exploring the Lake District, Eden Valley and the Yorkshire Dales. Hunter Davies described the village as "one of the most beautiful villages in the country". It is a quiet picturesque village in Cumbria not far from the Eden Valley and about six miles from Appleby-in-Westmorland. It forms part of the parish of Crosby Ravensworth and stands either side of Lyvennet Beck which flows from the south through Crosby Ravensworth and finally enters the River Eden near Temple Sowerby. Nearby Appleby sits at the heart of the lush Eden Valley, and is one of the loveliest towns in the north of England and was originally the county town of Westmorland. Appleby is a major stop on the Settle-Carlisle Railway, which is one of the most beautiful railway journeys in Britain; still today, many of the old steam trains wend their way along this line and over the awe-inspiring Ribblehead viaduct. Visit Appleby in June and experience the famous Horse Fair, the largest Romany gathering in Europe, enjoy a walk on the Pennine Way at Dufton, or explore one of the local cycle trails. With the delightful Pooley Bridge, Penrith and the magnificent Lake District within easy reach, this is an ideal holiday location.
