  • "Great place to stay for a base to visit the south of the lakes."

The house had everything that you require for a week’s stay and more. The hand mixer came in really handy when we had to make pancakes!! The small touches of dog treats and dog towels were a great idea. Thank you for a great stay and for the bottle of wine and biscuits!!! This property is definitely ideal for a dog and kid friendly experience.

  • "This property was like a home from home."

It was very comfortable and quite spacious for the four of us and our two dogs. A large kitchen and also a separate utility room which we used for the dogs food and equipment. Unfortunately the weather was rather wet during our stay which meant we stayed in the cottage rather than tour around like we would have preferred. However we felt at home and found it quite relaxing. My only criticism was squeaky floorboard on the upper landing which meant disturbing others when getting up to the bathroom during the night. All in all a great cottage for a base to the south lakes area and fairly close to motorway. I would recommend this property to others and would go again.

  • "Fantastically well appointed."

Couldn't think of a single thing that Lady Barn didn't have that we might need. Very much felt like the owners had really thought about all the little things. Kitchen had anything we might need and more. The quality of bedding, towels and even the loo role was excellent. The wide variety of leaflets, books and games were excellent. I wish I had a dog to be able to take advantage of all the little extras for pooches too!

  • "The best holiday cottage we've stayed in, and we've stayed in a few!"

Great location from which to get around the South Lakes area. The extra touches like the walking guide books were brilliant and we used them most days to plan our next adventure. The bedrooms were beautifully done and each one had it's own unique character but one thing they all had in common was a comfy, clean and well-proportioned bed! The kids loved walking down the lane each morning to buy the fresh free-range eggs from the neighbour's honesty box. We're hoping to be back next year.

The beds were so comfy, the cottage is hine from home and caters for absolutely everything you could possibly need. Location was perfect with Grange in close proximity and Cartmel its the perfect base for exploring. The map selection and things to do table was a much appreciated addition, I'd not noticed this at other properties but was so helping planning our days out. From leaving the property and turning right we bumped into the chickens a few houses down, being feed my children loved this, then a beautiful horse and lady galloped passed after stopping and talking and let me 1 year old admire, then the farmer crossed over the road with cows!! The birds come out to provide a show in the evenings! Honestly perfect place, we will defo go back in a flash

  • "Property needs a really good clean."

I moved the small desk in one of the bedrooms and it was all sticky like food residue on the sides. The back of the beds were thick dust/cobwebs as well as the lamps and cobwebs were everywhere. Bathrooms were not very clean either Sofas were really hard and uncomfortable, need more cushions at the back as they are really deep Also need a dishwasher!! The smell downstairs from the boiler in kitchen was just awful Heated towel rail in bathroom didn't work was barely warm when heating was on full and no space for 4 people to dry towels I would not recommend this place and would not return for the above reasons

  • "The interior of the cottage was well described and was well equipped, and the owner was very responsive to questions."

However, it is not clear from the listing how overlooked the property is by other cottages, and that it sits on a busy rural road for cars, tractors, cyclists and walkers. You cannot sit in the little garden without being overheard and seen by 3 neighbours… finally, the instructions to reach the cottage should AVOID the sharp left where the road rises. This is extremely narrow and full of brambles thus scratching the car. Instead at the Y-junction you can turn left and it brings you out at the same place, but via a wider road.

  • "Ladybarn cottage is a fantastic place, set amongst beautiful farmland yet not too far away from amenities."

We loved that we could walk straight out the door onto a lovely quiet walking route. Perfect when you have a dog and toddler. We also walked to Grange over Sands, along the prom and back one day, a route accessible to pushchairs and wheelchairs. The cottage its self is lovely, plenty big enough for our little boy to spread out with toys, our dog and three adults and not feel cluttered or confined. The kitchen dining room was great, nice and spacious, heating that is efficient, so no worry when needing to dry out wet clothes. The owners provide dog bowls and a large dog bed, our pooch preferred this to his own. So if your dog isn’t fussy save car space. A very enjoyable week, my little boy loved the tractors going passed the window and we loved the quiet of the countryside, will consider booking again if we choose this area of the lakes next year.

the owner had thought of everything. It was also in an excellent position. The only slight negative is that the cottage is actually on a road, I got the impression it was in a farm complex so was quite surprised to see cars going past right outside the window. Saying that, it wasn't a busy, fast road but cars did come along it quite early in the morning i.e. 6.30 onwards. I live in a really quiet location so this was a little disappointing but it didn'tr spoil the holiday and I would still recommend the cottage and return again

The hall leads to a lovely dual-aspect sitting room with comfortable seats and large stone fireplace housing a woodburning stove and an exposed stone wall to the ceiling.

Step through to the well-equipped modern farmhouse-style kitchen with dining area, a welcoming room ideal for friends and family to gather and socialise in.

Upstairs are three generous bedrooms with beams, sloping ceilings and quirky windows, furnished with quality furniture.

On this floor there is also the second bathroom with fabulous tiles and a modern basin.

This cottage is ideally suited to friends and family including the four-legged members of your party to explore both locally the Southern Lakes and further afield.

Close by you have Levens Hall with its world-class garden and topiary and majestic Sizergh Castle; both have cafes serving delicious treats to tempt you.

Cartmel is less than 15 mins away, a picturesque village which is well worth a visit with an ancient 12th century priory, the UKÂ’s smallest race course with meetings during the summer months and is also home to the infamous LÂ’Enclume restaurant, and quality shops.

It is also home to sticky toffee pudding which of course can be purchased and sampled.

In a similar time you can also be at Newby Bridge situated at the tip of Lake Windermere and enjoy one of the cruises to Bowness or Ambleside while enjoying the stunning lakeland vista from the water.

Walking is available nearby in both the Lyth Valley and Hamstead Fell at Grange-over-Sands, where wonderful 360 degree views can be enjoyed of the Morecambe Bay estuary, Lakeland fells and beyond.

Cyclists are also well catered for with the family-friendly cycle way from Heysham to Barrow on the door step.

Return at the end of your dayÂ’s activities to this super cottage in its peaceful location and enjoy an alfresco meal or drink outside or hunker down in front of the woodburning stove for a cosy evening.

A perfect choice for a delightful holiday all year round.

About the location

MEATHOP

Grange-Over-Sands 3 miles; Windermere 15 miles.

The small hamlet of Meathop is situated in the southern Lake District National Park, just a few miles from the coastal estuary, a quiet and peaceful area occupying a rural location on the path of the Cumbrian Coastal Way. Nearby is Lindale, sitting on the slopes of Hampsfield Fell, with a true 'Lakeland feel' to its narrow streets, traditional dwellings and quaint old pubs. Cartmel, with its famous annual horse race, and the pretty coastal resorts of Arnside and Grange are all neighbours and worthy of a visit. Just a short drive away are Lake Windermere and the villages of Bowness-on-Windermere and Newby Bridge, which still retain the charm and character that has endeared them to so many. Set amidst the charm of the southern lakes, Meathop makes an inspiring choice from which to enjoy the whole of a magical area.
