  • "Old Crow Trees Barn provides superb accommodation for a short break in a delightful, peaceful setting."

The barn is tastefully decorated and furnished. It is spacious, well equipped and spotlessly clean. The kitchen has the bonus of lots of cupboard space and a large fridge freezer - something sadly lacking in so many holiday rentals. We had a very wet week, but were warm and cosy with the central heating and wood burning stove. There was a welcome pack of tea, coffee, fresh milk, a bottle of Pinot Grigio and some delicious biscuits - all much appreciated. Pam, the owner, popped round to check everything was OK and was quick to respond to any queries. Ingleton Waterfalls Trail (a few miles down the road) is a must and there’s lots to see the nearby town of Kirkby Lonsdale. There was a scenic 3-4 mile circular walk straight from the barn, which took in green lanes, river banks, fields and woodland, though wellies were a must for this! We would highly recommend Old Crow Trees Barn for anyone wanting to explore the Lune Valley.

It is by far the best two person accommodation we have stayed in, the rooms are airy and spacious although the photographs are excellent, the barn looks more stunning in person. The location is wonderful, Kirby Lonsdale is only a short drive away and has a lovely river walk and a great village with restaurants, cafes and shops which has managed to retain its charm. It is exceptionally spacious but does not lose the 'cosy' aspect. All our needs were well catered for with a good kitchen dining area. The wood-burning stove gave the evenings total charm. The bathroom is gorgeous with a luxury power shower you could fit several people in at once. The luxury of a lovely warm bath after a walk was great. We felt very special in the beautifully appointed bedroom with a view onto green fields and a comfy bed. We managed to do a lot of walking even though the weather was rainy. About the location

MELLING

Kirkby Lonsdale 6 miles; Ingleton 10 miles.

The quiet village of Melling, in the lovely Lune Valley, is bordered by the famous Lake District to the north, and the Yorkshire Dales to the east. A delightful village, with evidence of a motte - as with Arkholme and Whittington - but Melling has no surviving bailey. It's also situated close to where the River Wenning joins the River Lune. Nearby Hornby Castle is set on a high hill overlooking the river and is known as the subject of one of Turner's best-loved paintings. Consisting of a scattering of traditional stone-built houses, a beautiful Norman church and several 'undiscovered' quiet walks around the village and other, more frequented walks and places of interest close by. Nearby Kirkby Lonsdale is a popular town, with the Old Devil's Bridge a delightful spot to stop for a coffee beside the River Lune, while a number of antique shops and curios can be found in the town, along with an excellent selection of restaurants and pubs. 'Ruskin's View' can also be accessed from Kirkby Lonsdale, where you may walk in the famous artist’s footsteps and experience the views that inspired him.
