The owners really do go the extra mile to make a memorable stay. The welcome pack and birthday card and choccies are a thoughtful touch. We highly recommend and if in the area again we would book this gorgeous cottage.

  • "What a wonderful house, with wonderful views in a superb village full of friendly folk."

There is easy access to some pleasing walks right on your doorstep and cycling is popular in the area too - and if you are not so inclined, then the hot tub, Conservatory and or Summerhouse provide books, boardgames and even a cocktail maker. The owners have considered so much in setting up this home from home that it was a real wrench to walk out the door at the end of our short stay. And the local people are so friendly and welcoming - we know we shall be back to share some more time in their company.

The cottage is excellent with everything you might need. The welcome pack is such a lovely touch with wine, beer, chocolates, eggs, milk, crisps and sweets. The cottage is extremely clean with lovely fresh, crisp bedding. The views are stunning and it's very peaceful. We love Mickleton, the food at The Crown is superb, especially Sunday lunch and the pizzas at The Blacksmith Arms are fab. We look forward to visiting Westholme again.

  • "I highly recommend this lovely cottage."

A delightful Christmassy welcome pack greeted us when we arrived. The fire was lit and made it warm and cosy. There are two great pubs in the village. The Blacksmiths Arms - very friendly serving good choice of ales and wines and pizzas. The Crown was serving delicious Street food- I recommend the Spanish Chicken cooked in a wood fired oven. The Rose and Crown in Romaldkirk serves great food. Well worth a visit to Middleton in Tees - great Sunday Lunch at Teesdale Hotel - would recommend booking. Lots of interesting shops. Steer clear of the Forresters - not a good experience. Thank you to the hosts for a fabulous pre Christmas break

The owners have thought of every little detail to make your stay the best it can be. Hot tub was fantastic, clean, beautiful and peaceful scenery surrounding for ultimate relaxation. Great walks on your doorstep for shorter easier routes and longer for the hikers out there, the owners have planned routes and maps in leaflets for you also. By far the best place we have stayed and have already recommended to others, if your lucky enough to get booked here your in for a treat! Weather won't be an issue as if you want to hibernate indoors there is more than enough books and games to keep you entertained. Bedrooms are spacious with the comfiest bed we have slept on both with en-suite bath and shower, there was a lovely bag in each cupboard with little extras in also but I will let you check them out, it's the extra little things that make it special sometimes and this place is packed with them!

The addition of the hot tub is a bonus and in a lovely secluded part of the garden. We took the advice of someone to take flip-flops, definitely a must. This is a minor grumble really, but the house could do with a larger bed for taller people (my partner is 6! 3") some more coat hooks downstairs and a DVD/CD player. But we really are not complaining, the house is just perfect and would work well in the middle of winter (Christmas break) to the height of summer. Just lovely thanks

Westholme also has a variety of very interesting books, games & maps plus walks details & information on local attractions. The conservatory, garden & hot tub all with views are a super bonus. Mickleton is a small quiet village & the cottage has access to numerous walks either from the doorstep or a very short drive away. The market village of Middleton is close by with the town of Barnard Castle a short distance away. The owners Ian & Kathleen were nearby & could not have been more helpful. • "Lovely holiday cottage."

Great location. Very well equipped. Fabulous hot tub - my advice is to take some flip flops to get from the house to the tub as it’s across the drive from the house. Wonderful surroundings with lots of nature and walks on the doorstep - we even saw a barn owl from the garden. The sun room is nice for a relaxing cup of coffee in the morning and the views are fabulous. The owners were very friendly and helpful and got in touch before the holiday and on the start day to check we’d managed to get in ok and ensure our holiday was going to plan. Be aware it’s two double beds so rather than a double and a twin but it wasn’t a problem for my kids. Overall a fabulous weekend away.

  • "This is a lovely holiday home and was perfect for our needs."

I would recommend to others. The reasons why it suited us are that it was very quiet location in a peaceful setting with walks from the door and lots of short day trips (nothing too taxing for a short break) nearby. The property is really nicely presented, super clean but cosy as well. I think having 2 en-suites both with baths is a great idea, it means each person or couple can both have a bath after a long days walking if they chose to. We particularly enjoyed the conservatory as the weather was unpredictable, so this gave us a place to relax and enjoy the view which was really restful. I know everyone always says 'home from home' but I have never used this to describe a holiday home before even when they have been a really high standard/fantastic, but I have to say the owners have really added a personal touch which did make me feel like I was staying in somebody's home rather than a holiday home, there was every single item you could think of in the kitchen and a really lovely welcome basket, but what was so nice was that it was equipped with nice china and bowls (very cottagey),the dining table was set out nicely on arrival and it looked really attractive and welcoming, loads of tea towels and cleaning stuff, plus waffle robes in the bedrooms, great especially if using the hot tub .. who takes a bathrobe on holiday especially for a short break? and remembers dishwasher tablets? plus water bottles and bathroom toiletries. We had a minor glitch with the hot tub (air in the pump) but it was easily resolved, and the hot tub was perfectly placed in a sheltered spot in the garden to enjoy the view. The summer house is fantastic and we used this to sit and read in the evenings when too cool to sit out but too nice to be inside. We received a text from the owners when we arrived to check we were OK which I appreciated, having a few week earlier stayed in another (expensive) holiday property with another well know holiday home rental company (not Sykes), but then couldn't get a response when we left messages about a problem
