We loved our stay in such a lovely cottage and village. The cottage was comfy, cosy and clean. The bed was so comfortable. Bathroom facilities very good. Lounge was perfect to relax in after a busy day walking. Didn’t light the already prepared stove as we were lucky with the weather. The local butcher McFarlanes never failed to deliver. Thank you for the welcome milk and Prosecco

  • "The cleanest and best maintained cottage I have ever stayed in!"

We took oven gloves, bin bags, tea towel and toilet roll as most places don’t have enough but we shouldn’t have bothered, this place has absolutely everything we needed, including milk in the fridge and a bottle of Prosecco! The bed sheets are the softest I’ve ever slept in although the beds are quite firm (not necessarily a bad thing if that’s your preference). Little side note, the water gets scalding hot when you’re washing up so take care! Lovely village and the cottage is very well placed to access the shops and pubs. We expected to struggle to park on coronation weekend but we got parked right outside. Faye text on our first day to make sure everything was ok and seemed lovely!

Our only issue which is more of a personal one is the bed in the main bedroom had an extremely hard mattress resulting in myself sleeping in another room as the main bed was giving me back ache which is not ideal.

The cottage was gorgeous, tastefully decorated and cosy, we really felt as though it was a home from home, wish we could have stayed longer! The location was great as well, we enjoyed exploring Middleton-In-Teesdale and the surrounding areas especially High Force. It was so nice to arrive at the cottage after a long drive and discover it was exactly as pictured - if not better because it had also been decorated for Christmas. Only very minor criticism is the bath towels were too small so we wished we had bought our own. Other than that everything was perfect and we had a lovely week at October Cottage.

I was disappointed in the welcome pack( essentials) but only because we have had such great ones from Sykes properties before. It would have been nice to have had some milk in the fridge etc but there is a shop close by, just meant we had to go out before putting the kettle on after a long journey. The property information was helpful and we referred to it on a number of occasions. A lovely private garden made a difference as we had some pleasant early evenings out there. High quality furnishings made it extremely comfortable but one gripe is it would be helpful to have a soap tray in the shower and somewhere to hold shampoo. Just tiny things though.
