  • "A wonderful cottage."

We loved the kitchen and the living space and the decor. The location was superb with parking and easy access to the Langdales/Ambleside and Grasmere. Our only niggle was the mattress in the front main bedroom was not comfortable and in our opinion needs replacing.

Thank you for your important feedback. It has been replaced. Brand new, natural fibre ortho mattress on that bed now. All mattresses in the property are now new. Thank you Property Owner

  • "It’s a lovely cottage and our second stay."

Place is well presented and clean with good facilities- amazing location. Only comment is that it was quite cold downstairs as the underfloor heating was not good enough to keep us warm in this winter month (there was a lot of snow) - using the fire solved the problem but did involve buying a lot of wood to keep the room warm.

Very pleased you thought our cottage lovely . Re the heating - the underfloor heating is in three sections Sounds like you only had one section switched on as it is very cosy even in icy weather . There are instructions in the guest info folder but if you stay again and have any issues at all then please do just reach out to the Lakelovers team, they are local and always on hand to help guests. We stayed during a particularly cold week but found it really chilly at times- the underfloor heating wasn’t enough- there was no starter pack left for the fire so we struggled to keep warm the first night as we arrived late - there was also not enough hot water for a bath and we couldn’t get the towel rail on in the bathroom which is the only heating in that room- the cottage and location are lovely but we wouldn’t choose it again because of feeling constantly cold

We love it. It is perfect. The decor is contemporary and vintage. The place is fantastic. I have scored cleanliness 4 as there was a few spider webs which could have easily been cleaned. The stone floor needed a mop. I am being picky. I will definitely be back. Sorry for not scoring a 5. Thanks

So glad you had a lovely stay and thought our cottage wonderful. Thank you for your feedback, we will take your advice so when you next return it is a five. The Owners Property Owner

  • "Thank you for a lovely stay."

The house is fantastic and is in a great location. We loved being able to set off on walks from the front door. Handy for a pub and cafe too, plus the bus stop if you’re leaving the car behind. We walked to Grassmere over the top of Loughrigg and came back via bus. Great adventure. You can get busses down to Great Langdale, fabulous pubs and fell walks down there too. Also super easy to walk along to Elterwater where there’s another good pub and cafe. This house is immaculate, beautiful designed and decorated. Great to have a massive selection books and games in the cupboard. The log burner was cosy. Kitchen was excellent and had everything we needed. Thanks!

We have been able to walk straight out the house to the Langdale valley via Elterwater. Such a cosy cottage with underfloor heating as a bonus. A beautiful place to spend time any time of the year.

  • "Beautiful property in a wonderful location."

We really enjoyed our stay! Lovely and warm with how the storage heaters had been set and the property was immaculately clean. The accuracy in the listing about which parking space was dedicated to this property could have been clearer. The springs in the mattress in the master bedroom was slightly uncomfortable- a thick mattress topper on this bed would have made the stay just that bit more comfortable! We really felt at home and loved exploring local walks as well as the local cafe at Chesters on the River. Thank you!

Thank you fro feed back - will will replace it Property Owner

  • "The cottage location is just perfect, almost central in the entire Lake District National Park and has many beautiful walks right outside the door."

Add to this, the pub/restaurant almost next door and the river across the road, it is heaven. The cottage itself is very pretty, and has almost everything you can ask for. The kitchen, in fact, is so well stocked with utensils and 'useful' stuff that there is very little space for the storage of non-chilled food. However, a quick juggle of the cupboard contents sorted this with little fuss. In general, the cottage was clean and tidy, but unfortunately our impression when approaching for the first time from the parking space at the rear of the property was not a good one. The previous tenants had left so much rubbish that the bin immediately outside the rear door was packed solid and overflowing with 4 or 5 full bin liners also the ground. It was a warm day and the flies and smells were rife meaning we couldnt leave the back door open. The information book in the cottage says the rubbish collection is once a week, but didnt say when and on finally phoning the information/help number on Saturday afternoon, I was told that the rubbish would be collected on Monday. This meant putting up with someone elses rubbish for 3 days before collection and also meaning that we were not able to get rid of our own rubbish without adding to the issue. I realise that this is an extreme situation, and not within the control of the cottage owners, but it really wasn't a pleasant experience and did not give us a good first impression. The bed in the front bedroom was on the hard side and did not suit my husband who ended up spending a night sleeping on the sofa. I thought it was fine though! The new furniture downstairs is very comfortable and the blankets are snuggly on a cool evening. Would we come back again? Most definitely!

Thank you for your comments. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay. We are sorry to hear of the issue that you experienced with the rubbish at the property, and we will ask our Maintenance Team to look into this further. We do find that beds and bedding are down to personal preference. We hope to welcome you again. Thank you- The Heart of the Lakes Owner Relations Team Property Owner

  • "This cottage has so much going for it!"

Great location with beautiful walks from the doorstep of a short drive away. The yummy bakery. The sound of the river. Lots of space for our little family. Very well equipped kitchen etc - was great to have the highchair and travel cot available, and our little boy loved the basket of cars and kids DVDs. Underfloor heating also lovely! As others have noted the shower isn’t great, but understand it’s difficult in more rural areas. What did let it down was the cleanliness. Sorry to say the cottage really needs a deep clean, and it’s put us off staying somewhere dog friendly again. Our 2.5 year old tends to play on the floor and was immediately covered in dog hair and dirt from the mat in the living room, this then ended up everywhere - on us and having to brush it off the sofas etc. other areas also very dusty and in need of a thorough clean. Hope you can look into this as otherwise the cottage is awesome.

Thank you for your comments, are glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay. We will look into your comments regarding the cleanliness to ensure that our high standards continue to be met. Property Owner

  • "Have stayed in the lakes many times and walked past Brathay Cottage and wished I could stay here !"

It wasn’t a disappointment at all. The location is fantastic and right next to the famous ‘Chester’s ‘ who we adore. Getting to the cottage late after work on the Friday was fine but a pre - heads up on the ‘no milk ‘ in the care package would be helpful to note to customers travelling late. Chester’s obliged the next day with a free cup of milk for our needed cuppa. Also we didn’t realise there was a ‘one’ toilet roll in play - so again Chester’s came to the rescue. Underfloor heating was fab. Beds very comfortable. Again Chester’s handy to buy soap to wash hands with

We leave a basket of fuel for a fire , one new loo roll , have pump dispenser hand wash in the bathroom and kitchen , leave a mini starter pack with a dishwasher tablet , dish cloth , tea towel, bin bag and tiny washing up liquid . We don’t leave food or drink but do leave info as to where the nearest shop is just 5 mins away in Chaoel Stile . So sorry you were disappointed . . The owners Property Owner

  • "Lovely cottage in a fantastic location but the property is let down by the very poor shower."

I realise that this is because of low water pressure to the cottage but can be remedied with some expense. We were only a party of 3 but I imagine it would be a struggle to accommodate 6 in the cottage with only one loo ! Otherwise good.

The shower is the best that is possible to put in as an electric shower . We even re- wired to up the capacity of electric cable and get a new shower - the most powerful we could for our rural location . We live in a city but find it fine for our hols . Sorry it wasn’t good for you . The owners Property Owner

  • "The cottage is situated in a lovely location which enhances the cottage itself."

However, on our arrival at the property it looked a little grubby and we called the quality of the cleanliness into question. Upon further inspection, there was evidence of cooking equipment which was unsuitable for use safely and kitchen equipment which was broken and not fit for purpose. A bit of a shame as these issues let the cottage down a little and could do easily be avoided if regular checks and cleaning are in place.

We have got Heart of the Lakes to engage new cleaners as we have never had comments on poor cleaning before . They have been instructed to check and feed back on any shoddy equipment that requires replacing and we ourselves will be back visiting again as normal and replacing things as and when required now that Covid has lessened . Thank you for your feedback . The owners Property Owner
