  • "A beautiful little cottage in a great location of the Lakes."

    Nearest shop is in Ambleside so bring essential supplies for your first night (tea,coffee etc) Kitchen was well equipped, just would have liked a bit more space for food. Oven worked great. Didn’t use dishwasher or washing machine. Lounge comfortable and plenty of books, board games and puzzles to entertain you. Main bedroom, was comfortable slept well every night. Plenty of cupboards and drawers. En-suite a bit cosy. Main bathroom was spacious and the shower was great. Twin room had a lovely view. Wasn’t used so can’t comment anymore. Parking for two cars up the side of the property. Small private garden with furniture. We had a lovely comfortable stay and would recommend to anyone. Thank you.

  • "Always a disappointment when a welcome box is not provided, even greater frustration when the property book says there is small amount of tea and coffee left for us but the jars were empty."

    There were no cleaning products although stated again there were! These are clearly issues with the company cleaning the property.The cottage was clean. Strange external layout whereby no front garden and neighbours No 4 sat outside the window ,where the only dining table was overlooked. The back garden had a gate adjacent to No 4 presumably to access shed although we did not use it , but on two occasions this gate was accessed by others and left open. The positives it is a well furnished, finished and very well equipped property situated in a lovely location.

  • "This is a great cottage with easy access to excellent walking and the wonderful Chesters cafe is next door."

    A few things to highlight, the house was very dusty the units, tables and bedside drawers had not been dusted for some time, this was a shame as the rest of the cleanliness of the cottage was good. There are no instructions for anything in the cottage, no wifi info, nothing on how to work the TV - note it only has streaming ie i player, ITVX channels, as the normal 'live TV' does not work. No instructions on how to operate the dishwasher or washing machine ( we did work this out) but an information pack on the facilities would have been very useful. Again no information on the heating, it was clearly timed which is what I would expect but no way of overriding this so if we got back early from a run, the house was cold and we had to wait until 4pm when the heating clicked on. The log burner would have been perfect but there were no logs, no means of using at all and no information on where local logs/kindling/firelighters etc could be purchased so sadly we could not make use of this, which was a shame. Excellent location, would return again, just a few things could be improved.

  • "We had a lovely stay in the cottage, very warm and comfortable and a well equipped kitchen."

    The boot room is very useful too after returning from a few muddy walks. There are ample walks from the door, a very useful Co op just up the road and Ambleside is just ten minutes drive for more supplies or a visit to Stiles cafe or the Apple Pie Shop. We would definitely stay here again in the future.

  • "This is a very pleasant property with good facilities."

    It is quite isolated in terms of amenities, although there is a pleasant vegan cafe/ gift shop close by and a bar which is only really used by diners. We found the property to be very gloomy downstairs; this is not apparent in the photos. Our only real gripe was cleanliness: the bedding had bird poo on it. When we removed it to wash it we found the mattress protector to be badly stained. There were still crumbs from the previous occupant on the dining table and kitchen work surfaces. We also had to wash down the garden furniture as it was very dirty with bird poo. This aside, we enjoyed our stay.

  • "This is a lovely, comfortable cottage in a beautiful location ideal for walking."

    It is nicely furnished and decorated. There are many books, games and jigsaws available. The bathroom is modern and has both a bath and a walk-in shower that has a good water flow. The additional en-suite is very useful. Thei ktchen is well equipped with utensils, but I've never come across one so devoid of kitchen consumables: no kitchen paper, foil, cling film, etc, not even washing up liquid, brush or sponges, and just one tea towel for the week; a washing machine but no detergent. It is aggravating, on your first morning, to have to delay your planned walk and drive to buy the necessary to wash your dishes. (The dinner plates, incidentally, are too big for the dishwasher and prevent the arms rotating.) I found that surprising and disappointing in an otherwise well equipped cottage. Also surprising, given its location, among the many books available there are no local walking guides or maps. But come prepared and you'll find this cottage very satisfactory. We would certainly come again.

    Thank you for your feedback There should have been basic consumables in the kitchen and a welcome pack containing essentials, unfortunately for health and safety (potential allergens) we can provide all items. Based on your feedback we have made changes. The dinner plates do fit in the dishwasher, the upper shelf is adjustable and unfortunately a previous guest must have set it on the lower setting. There should be a good selection of guides and maps, we restock yearly as they tend to go missing. We have purchased new ones Property Owner

  • "Really great house in a great location."

    Really enjoyed our stay and thought it was excellent value. The house was actually bigger than I thought it would be - two bathrooms - both looked newly refurbished, which was great. The rest of the house was clean and nicely kept. Drying room at the back of the kitchen - very handy. Ideal location for great food from Chesters and great walks right from the door. Would love to stay again.

  • "The cottage was smaller than we expected."

    The ensuite was really too small for comfort and the tile trims were dusty, but the rest of the bedroom was very smart. The layout of the lounge/dining room was frustrating, having to carry food all the way across the room as there was nowhere to eat in the kitchen! Location was confusing and we didn't realise (from the post code or the directions) that we would be quite so close to Chesters - we would have preferred a quieter house!

    .. and only a short drive to Ambleside, Windermere or Coniston for essentials. Lovely cosy cottage with all the comforts you need and a nice cafe right next door.

  • "This is a great cottage."

    Very comfortable and well equipped. Decent sized fridge/freezer, which is always handy. Bathrooms are new and very nice. We found en-suite a bit cramped so used main. Remember to read instructions, as we didn’t on first night and water was not hot. Once we found out that you use switch in kitchen (if heating not on), then all was well. Popped it on when we returned from walk for an hour and it saw us through to next day (3 people). Back garden is a nice calm, private area. All in all would recommend and will hopefully return.

  • "Was wonderful to arrive to a refurbished property, was clean, comfy and well equipped property."

    Really enjoyed the sound of the nearby river, and birds to wake up to. Was able to go on walks from the door step ( car not used/needed) . Would happily rebook this cottage in the future and recommend to all.

    The improvements to the bathroom are spectacular and an en-suite has been added to the master bedroom. This is a lovely cottage in a great location, I only hope that the improvements do not make it unaffordable for us!

The property

Located nearby the banks of the River Brathay in the Langdale valley is River Bank.

A traditional Lakeland cottage overlooking the ancient river bridge, this is a lovely base for families or two couple to enjoy. Enter through practical boot room and through to the kitchen with everything you need for a comfortable stay.

The living room is centered around the woodburning stove to enjoy on the cooler evenings, and dining area is the perfect spot for a social evening catching up around exploring the area over a glass of wine.

Upstairs there is a spacious king-size double bedroom with views over the river, a twin bedroom and the family bathroom boasting bath and separate shower.

Venture outside to the private rear garden furnished for dining al fresco with BBQ.

Away from the hustle and bustle of the more popular villages, Skelwith Bridge is perfectly situated for exploring the nearby Langdale Pikes and Blea Tarn as well as a short drive from the vibrant village of Ambleside.

Skelwith Bridge itself has plenty to offer, take a stroll down to Skelwith Force and enjoy a delicious brunch at Chesters by the River, a popular vegetarian café with gift shop and take away bakery.

This is an ideal spot for a relaxing break in the Lakes with walks from the door and just a short drive from Ambleside and the central Lake District.

LANGDALE

Often referred to as Great Langdale, to distinguish it from nearby Little Langdale, Langdale's name comes from the Old Norse for 'long valley'. Langdale is a u-shaped valley formed by glaciers. It encompasses the two villages of Chapel Stile and Elterwater, as well as the hamlet of High Close. Set in the centre of the Lake District, Langdale is probably best known for its mountains, from the Langdale Pikes – a group of mountains on the northern side of the village – to England’s highest mountain, Scafell Pike. Rock climbers will also love Raven Crag, Gimmer Crag and White Ghyll. There Not surprisingly Langdale is also famous for it’s spectacular views, including Dungeon Ghyll Force Waterfall, Harrison Stickle and Pike of Stickle. it is an extremely popular holiday destination and loved by hikers, climbers, fell runners and lovers of the outdoors in general.
